Thanks for your honest and trustworthy re- review. I'm laughing because we had a little discussion about the tracking issue of the Pocket 2 a year ago. We'd agreed back then the Pocket 1's tracking was vastly superior. I'd assumed that by now DJI would have fixed the problem, but now I have the suspicion that the much wider field of view of the Pocket 2 lens is what makes it extremely difficult for them to fix it in the software - and not worth it for them to attempt fixing. Who can blame them? You're absolutely right! Just get the Pocket 1 at great discount - which is exactly what I did! I love it, and am elated! Your reviews and style are sterling stuff, btw.
Loved the opinion on this. I usually go for the latest assuming it to being the greatest but have been swayed to go with the DJI1. The music at the end was reminiscent of blade runners end scene in the rain, a pleasure to watch. Thanks

Wow, thank you for saying about the whole sign up thing, I haven't seen anyone say about this! I hate how all companies nowadays just scramble for all your data. I just bought a second hand pocket 2 for £200 ($249) and I'm so excited about it! I really wanted the 3 but couldn't really justify the huge price increase as I'm only really buying it to record my time in Korea and Japan for a 6 week trip. So excited for it though and thank you for this review!
So happy that I came across this video - I have the Pocket 1 and with all the buzz around the Pocket 3, I was thinking of buying the Pocket 2. Based on your video, I think I’ll just stick with my always reliable and cinematic looking Pocket 1. Glad you mentioned the cinematic aspect in your video. Keep putting out that sic content!
Thanks for this. I think I just might go with the pocket 1 then. Tracking is one of the critical features that I need for my type of work. Thanks for this honest review. Cheers!
Nice video! I only have the 2 so I guess I have to put up with poor tracking. Its pretty easy to remove the tripod mount if you leave the tripod attached.
This was the one review I should have paid more attention to! I had my camera for about a week but have decided to return it. In order to access the videos on my phone you not only have to add the adapter but I also had to remove my phone from the case as it would not connect fully otherwise. I am just using a basic phone case. I found this to be one issue that I would regret keeping later on. There needs to be a Bluetooth sync to your phone to be of any real value. The stabilizer IS great and video quality is also very nice but the issues with practical use post recording were too much for me and I’ve returned the camera.
Looks like DJI will be releasing the Pocket 3 in a few weeks time. I've enjoyed my Pocket 2. Its very good for 4k walk videos (though battery only lasts 1 hour with 4k30fps recording). The Pocket 3 looks like it'll have a 1' sensor, which will be a great start with noticeably cleaner recording in low light.

Hi mate, thanks for the honest review. I was about to buy one. I can’t find a pocket 1 online (in Australia), what do you recommend as an alternative to capture footage while traveling, 4x4, camping, hiking etc. I’m completely lost in this world. We use our iPhones at the moment but I wanted and independent device. Seems most people are on the GoPro train but I’m not sure about that. I was heading towards the Pocket 2 on recommendation from a friend. I simply asked for a point and shoot compact camera for traveling and he suggested the pocket.
Thanks, you're the only one dealing with the fact that using the Osmo Pocket is conditional on the total opening of privacy. This is something the law should not allow, but companies do what they want. People have gotten used to it and most don't see anything unpleasant about it. People swear, but the desire for technology is stronger. Technology promises a kind of "freedom" and people willingly give up real freedom. Thanks for sharing with us your review & I really love how calm & nice your voice sounded in this vid, as if I’m watching a movie called Pocket 2 towards the ending part😂🤣 Anyway, saw many other vids on review of P2 & I think whether it’s P1 or P2, they’re all good in its own ways, P2 is 👍🏼 in some ways too. E.g you mentioned the do-it-all handle looks silly because making P2 looking too long, Idts, may be your one-sided words if you are saying P1 is better than P2, very individual thing I could say. Don’t you think so? 😁
I have had the Pocket 1 for three years now, and you couldn't pry it from my hands. it is hands down the best "B" roll wedding camera out there, in my opinion. I don't use it much for audio but oh man, the video is amazing. I'll pass on the 2. Lastly, I use my R5 and/or 5D MkIV if I need to bluetooth or WiFi, just transfer the files by inserting the Microsd card into an adopter, upload it in my canon, good to go!
Totally agree about the pocket 1 and cinematic. I've gotten my best "action cam" cinematic with it. It can look amazing, using ND filters and cinematic settings.
Thanks for a good review I have never vlog before but I wanted to start with my vacation trips and when I attended car shows So do you still recommend the 1 instead of the 2? Or another brand? I really like how small this is and will fit right in my pocket
2 weeks ago i got my pocket 2, i never try to use it outside but its activated it already. Still in box and idk when can i use it. I just shared my thoughts 😅
I definitely picked up a pocket 2 because of your review definitely swayed me. I do love the pocket2 and beat the crap out of it but it feels like DJI just gave up on the camera. Frustrating.
I agree so much with this!!! I bought two, and then sold it after a couple of months. Never sold the One and still own it. I kept the wide angle lens though. :) I’m sorry about the sound quality, but for everything else, the One is better by miles.
Sorry to bother, how is the 1 better than 2? Doesnt the 1 have smaller sensor which result in shittier dynamic range (overexposing the sky) and worse mic quality? I mean is it just about the tracking?
@@PhotoSlash The image quality of the 2 is overprocessed - too much dynamic range. Faces are flat, there isn't enough contrast - it looks so artificial. The picture just doesn't look good to my eyes at all. The 1 produces a much more pleasing, natural looking video. The sound quality is not as good, yes, and the the wider angle is great, but I still prefer the video quality of the 1. It's a very personal thing. The tracking however...
@@KarinNelson gotcha thank you! i hate the artificial look too like the oversharpening, been trying to find some alternatives with better image quality and with the same portability but cant find anything else, i think i should get a mirrorless if I wont be able to find some better cam than the osmo, if you have any suggestion.... :)
@@PhotoSlash I'm extremely partial to Fujifilm. I have an X100V myself and I love it. I do record my talking head videos with it, but it's crap for walking around filming (no stabilization whatsoever). However, the image quality is sweet. That said, I have never tried a Sony but I am hearing great things.
@@KarinNelson thank you, i'll check them out, i just need a good cam for my explorations in woods/mountains. I just hate it when i get that noisy, oversharpened result while I do some panning over bushes and trees. i just want them to be clean lol
I got the same unit, and have the same opinion of it. But on top of that, after not using it for a few months (winter...), it wouldn't turn on and I had to return it to have it replaced after extremely light use. The issue with software updates is also something I've seen with my DJI drones. This makes me much less inclined now to buy their products, as I feel they orphan them too quickly.
Great video. I cant get my head around AFs and AFC . Is AFS like manual focus ? so you click on it once and it's focused at that point. So for example Click AFS once on a landscape. Move behind a rock ( rock should be blurred out) Pan /slide left and landscape will be in focus. AFC always does auto focus Landscape is in focus move behind rocK and it will refocus on the rock when would you use AFS vs AFC Regards
I bought a 2nd Pocket 1 - I like it so much, just don't want to be without one. I also bought a replacement battery (not sure who can install it though) -- not me for sure. I have no interest in the Pocket 2. I don't like the wider angle lens or it's poor tracking. Good review. Cheers.
Great review, thank you. Quick question - what is the max length of a single video? Ie can you record 30 or 60 mins long video? And does the pocket 2 saves it as a single file or splits into several files? Cheers
There's a FW update under test by users, it seems from their forum, primarily to fix the tracking issues. (And that does need fixing). There's a technique for getting the tripod mount off - I think a kind of bending motion is required - but mine has the DIA handle always connected, which doesn't bother me at all. That handle provides support for the amazing rotating and focussing surround mics and the wireless mic which perhaps not everyone wanted to pay for - I'm not personally inclined to criticise them for that, but I can see why people do. As for the Pocket 1 - well, its feature set is different (eg audio, field of view) and if it suits the particular user, sure, it's a bargain and maybe the "better" camera. But with all these devices, I am wary of the word "better" unless you say "better for...[task]" - they are all tools for a job - first define the job, then pick the best-match tool. I still have my P1 but it's not left the drawer for many months. Nor has my Action 1, Fimi Palm 1, etc etc - must stop buying small cameras....! Anyway, great and thought provoking video, thanks.
I was thinking the exact same thing about my Pocket 1, which I sold when I got my Pocket 2 as I was worried it would just sit there and collect dust. I used my Pocket 1 primarily for its brilliant object tracking and the fact that this feature is unusable on the Pocket 2 is utterly disappointing.
I've been watching reviews and was about to purchase a DJI Pocket 2 then saw this video. I'm looking for a camera to film some car feature video and my phone is old so that's out of the question. I have a DSLR but rather get a dedicated video camera with gimbal and the DJI Pocket seemed to fit the bill. Now I'm wondering if getting a Pocket 1 or Pocket 2 would be better... any recommendation? Will probably rarely shoot at night. The tracking issue you mentioned might be the deciding factor but I've barely dabbled in video so I'm not sure if the 1 or 2 would be better
Great comparison video, appreciate the efforts. I'm also 100 percent agree with your point on considering Pocket1 over Pocket 2. Could you please comment on the still photography with these. Seems Pocket 2 is having 64MP and pretty much detail still photos. Thanks in advance.
I’m still lost. I purchased the Pocket 2 Combo Pack the other day and have yet to open it because something told me to look at forums and UA-cam videos to make sure before opening ($500 for the combo pack isn’t cheap after afterall). The video from the Pocket 1 does look more cinematic while the Pocket 2 looks wide angled. Even in certain low light situations the Pocket 1 looks better (as seen in your other video I just watched). But the audio on the Pocket 2 is superior. I’m trying to hold out for the Pocket 3 this fall…What’re your thoughts? My use for this is for vlogging for a company. Maybe I’ll purchase Pocket 1 for the learning curve, save the money to apply to ND filters and then this will give me the advantage when Pocket 3 comes out… Also, it seems that DJI is focusing on vloggers but sacrificing some essentials with their older products (Pocket 1’s warm colors and cinematic video vs Pocket 2’s just like how they sacrificed the field of view and features on their OSMO 4 vs. OSMO 5 gimbals)
@@Roos-Reviews Hi I almost bought Pocket 2 until I see your review and now I am hesitant. Re: audio, do you think I can connect Pocket 1 to say Rode Wireless Go 2 easily? So that I can improve the audio. Thanks for your tips! Really appreciate!
there is no such a thing as a price drop for pocket 1 in my country :D still the same price as the original one, and I have a question, if I wanted a compact camera for self-photography and vlog plus taking some scenery videos and pictures, not at the professional level of course :) do you have any suggestions? I wanted to go to Korea this September so I don't have time to wait for the pocket 3, I was thinking to get the pocket 2 for now T.T great video as always.
I am seriously thinking of buying this one for Vlogging but I have one question. Does it also fulfill the requirement of taking quality photos? When I compare this with lets say "Canon M50 Mark ii " it can be used to take good photos as well as videos. Does this gadget also take good photos? Or is it merely for video content?
Are you talking about the leaked DJI road map which mentions the Pocket 3 is due to be released this Fall? You said the Pocket 3 should be announced soon. DJI don't usually announce products 6-9 months ahead of their release.
How do I download the listing from the video I shot with Phuket2? I get a regular listing in the area of the translation. The subtitles say: F / 1/8, SS 198/62, ISO 100, EV 03 03 probably what I set in the camera. What to do to download / stop the subtitle
🌞 The pocket1 focal length and its color science are nicer than p2. The pocket3 would be nice if it were to have: maintain the same size and shape and pricetag of the pocket2, remove that red circle around the lens keep hardware color all black, removable battery, weather seal, in camera 120 fps 4K noncrop.
I am in complete agreement with regards to the challenge of being obligated to register an account with DJI in order to use a product that you have purchased. I am almost convinced that it could be challenged in front of court. I think it is unlawful to sell a product with a hidden defect. I know for a fact that in Europe, DJI would not be able to request activation in the same way. DJI has done none of the promised firmware improvements to protect other DJI products, existing or future. Such as a possible Pocket 3. You need to have enough limitations on the previous generations to create a need for the next. As for the add-ons, Apple does it all the time. I absolutely hate it. Everything that should be included is not. The best example is the Apple Air-Tag that comes bare, requiring an extra purchase for a holder. I purchased the Pocket 2 for half the price on the used market. I have not purchased any of the creator combo, wide angle lens, ND filters. I make do with what I have. I have worked around the flaws you listed in your narrative. The pockets, either ones are still fine by me. For the record, I purchased the Pocket 2 based on your review of the product; both pocket and pocket 2.
So...I bought my P2 about a month ago, and I am not seeing any of the tracking issues that Roo is talking about. I do not have the wide angle lens, but I have ND filters and everything seems to be on par with what I would expect from DJI. Not sure what the problem is, but I do not own the original Pocket 1. This camera, at least for the past month, is doing exactly what I bought it to do. I have no complaints Who I am? An armature photographer of 17 years who has owned a large number of drones and a small number of handheld cameras, most of them Go Pros. I feel like this (Pocket 2) is every bit as good as any of the Go Pros that I have owned. The waterproofing sucks, but otherwise, esp adding ND filters, the Pocket 2 is the best out there. Not sure why Roo would think otherwise and I feel like his follow up review is overly critical and not super accurate. I have no issues changing the bases of the camera, and mine tracks very, very well.
I'm glad you're pleased with your Pocket 2. If it does what you need, that's all that matters. Without having the Pocket 1 to compare side by side you may not understand why so many people were disappointed in the tracking of the P2. In my original P1 vs P2 video I test them side by side and demonstrate the problems clearly. I think you would need to properly test the tracking of both cameras side by side like that before saying than I'm just not accurate in my video. It's a very common complaint in the Pocket community. DJI advertised it as having better tracking than before, but that was untrue and this left people disappointed, especially when DJI just abandoned support for this camera, never fixing the problem. It's a great camera, but it wasn't the big upgrade from the original that it was marketed to be.
Managed to snag a used: like new pocket 1 on Amazon Warehouse like 30mins ago! Kinda hoping it comes with everything in the box we'll see haha 😅 but it'll be a nice holdover till the pocket 3 I suppose!
I’m so stupid bought the do it all handle only for streaming capability, the result is very hard to do streaming on my youtube channel. And again, drained battery

Yes, but if you buy a used one you don't need to.
Thanks for a fantastic review, I really like your style of video. Question: can you connect a DJI Mic to the Pocket 1.
Yes DJI sells a USBC to 3.5mm audio adapter that lets you plug a mic into the Pocket 1.
Can’t wait for the 3 drop
Same here.
How's the DJI Pocket 2 wide angle lens on osmo pocket
It's quite good optically, but I found it too much of a nucience to use.
Thanks! GREAT review ---- quick PRIVACY question, do you have to register the Pocket 1 with limitation to 5 usages if you don't?
Yes, unless you buy a used one that is already activated.
Great video. I cant get my head around AFs and AFC .
Is AFS like manual focus ? so you click on it once and it's focused at that point. So for example
Click AFS once on a landscape.
Move behind a rock ( rock should be blurred out)
Pan /slide left and landscape will be in focus.
AFC always does auto focus
Landscape is in focus
move behind rocK
and it will refocus on the rock
when would you use AFS vs AFC
Regards
Yes you've got it. Using AFS ensures the camera won't suddenly refocus on something else in the middle of a shot.
@@Roos-Reviews much appreciated
I bought a 2nd Pocket 1 - I like it so much, just don't want to be without one. I also bought a replacement battery (not sure who can install it though) -- not me for sure. I have no interest in the Pocket 2. I don't like the wider angle lens or it's poor tracking. Good review. Cheers.
Awesome
Great review, thank you. Quick question - what is the max length of a single video? Ie can you record 30 or 60 mins long video? And does the pocket 2 saves it as a single file or splits into several files? Cheers
It splits them into ~ 5 min files when using 4k
Would you get the Pocket 1 or a 1 inch mod for the Insta360 One R? (last one is more expensive now).
They are such different cameras, so it would depend on what I wanted to use it for.
Hey, what device is that you are using to wheel the pocket 2 around the headphones in that shot? I'm looking for something like that. thanks
It's this little dolly here: ua-cam.com/video/kcQLNp7sbzA/v-deo.html
@@Roos-Reviews Thanks!
nice!
but do you have to register the Pocket 1?? I prefer the CCP not having my private info
Yes, unless you buy used.
Maybe I’ll purchase Pocket 1 for the learning curve, save the money to apply to ND filters and then this will give me the advantage when Pocket 3 comes out…
Also, it seems that DJI is focusing on vloggers but sacrificing some essentials with their older products (Pocket 1’s warm colors and cinematic video vs Pocket 2’s just like how they sacrificed the field of view and features on their OSMO 4 vs. OSMO 5 gimbals)
سلام ببخشید من میخوام این دوربینو بخرم میخواستم بدونم با این دوربین میشه با اون هم استریم کرد یا خیر
This Cinematic magic view is due to the smaller focal length.
Yes exactly, plus the warmer colours.
Does the pocket 1 audio acceptable?
It's not great, but it's audible. The Pocket 2 is much improved.
I'm using pocket 2, yes you are right 100 %
there is no such a thing as a price drop for pocket 1 in my country :D still the same price as the original one, and I have a question, if I wanted a compact camera for self-photography and vlog plus taking some scenery videos and pictures, not at the professional level of course :) do you have any suggestions? I wanted to go to Korea this September so I don't have time to wait for the pocket 3, I was thinking to get the pocket 2 for now T.T great video as always.
I am seriously thinking of buying this one for Vlogging but I have one question. Does it also fulfill the requirement of taking quality photos? When I compare this with lets say "Canon M50 Mark ii " it can be used to take good photos as well as videos. Does this gadget also take good photos? Or is it merely for video content?
The photos are pretty good - better than most action cameras, but not nearly as good as an M50ii.
I can't disagree with any point you made here. In fact, I made almost the same points in my own video.
Damn. Well I just ordered pocket 2. So I guess I just need to make the best of it
Is there any way to get the pocket 2 to face forward instead of selfie position when it boots up ?
Yes, just turn it on using the other button. One button boots it up in selfie mode, the other boots up in forward mode.
@@Roos-Reviews excellent thanks for help I very much appreciate your it 👍👍👍
The pocket 3 should be getting announced soon
I haven't seen anything yet. Have you?
@@Roos-Reviews yes I have unofficially. However I can’t talk about it other than it should come out in the next 6-9 months
Are you talking about the leaked DJI road map which mentions the Pocket 3 is due to be released this Fall? You said the Pocket 3 should be announced soon. DJI don't usually announce products 6-9 months ahead of their release.
@@HeresMo dang, welp i guess i gotta buy the pocket 2 then, cant wait too long
How do I download the listing from the video I shot with Phuket2? I get a regular listing in the area of the translation. The subtitles say: F / 1/8, SS 198/62, ISO 100, EV 03 03 probably what I set in the camera.
What to do to download / stop the subtitle
🌞 The pocket1 focal length and its color science are nicer than p2. The pocket3 would be nice if it were to have: maintain the same size and shape and pricetag of the pocket2, remove that red circle around the lens keep hardware color all black, removable battery, weather seal, in camera 120 fps 4K noncrop.
I feel like there’s suppose to be some creature popping out of nowhere for a jump scare lol
hi phillips Hue sync box alike light kit, interested in free reviewing?
Thanks for your comment. You made some really good points.
I have no complaints
Who I am?
Don’t pull the tripod adapter , the correct way to remove it is to bend it 90 degrees
I leave the tripod attached and it easily wiggles off. took me forever to figure that out
Managed to snag a used: like new pocket 1 on Amazon Warehouse like 30mins ago! Kinda hoping it comes with everything in the box we'll see haha 😅 but it'll be a nice holdover till the pocket 3 I suppose!
Nice! Do you mind if I ask what price you scored?
@@Roos-Reviews I managed to get it for $80 which was a steal but it's also why I'm hopeful of it coming with everything it typically comes with
Crikey! That is incredible. Nice one
I’m so stupid bought the do it all handle only for streaming capability, the result is very hard to do streaming on my youtube channel. And again, drained battery
