  • What would later become the Class G 10 with the West German state railways DB started life as the Class A2 standard German goods wagons in 1910. From then on until 1927 a staggering 120,000 of these types were build. The wagons had at a loading volume of 45.7 m³ and took a payload of 15 metric tons. The wheelbase was 4,500 mm, while the length over buffers was 9,600 mm. The wagons were produced both with and without hand brakes. Going through two World Wars, a depression and the beginning of the “Wirtschaftswunder” the G 10s had seen their fair share of action here in the mid-1950s where my layout is set. Nonetheless, the G 10s continued to be the most widespread boxcars in West Germany with about 40,000 wagons in 1953. In 1958 there were still more G 10 wagons with DB than all conversions and newly build closed wagons combined. So, nor surprisingly the G 10s were a quite common visitors in Denmark in this period. I really like the model from Fleischmann a lot, especially that the side doors open which gives the wagon good "play value". As you can see from the video I gave the model quite a bit of weathering. Please visit my blog www.Sundborg.Wordpress.com (mostly in Danish) for more on my plans for a 1950’s Danish layout.

Thanks for visiting my blog! You need to take the track plan with a big dose of salt since these things are always subject to change. I have not included a ferry in my current planning although that is a much loved feature of many Danish layouts. Maybe I can include a small one.

@@SundborgModelRailway yes a ferry would be great. but in lack of space you could settle for only some tracks leading to a ferry slip, and then on a backdrop put a picture of the slip and a ferry. I did so on my ho layout of Hoboken, new Jersey, and think it looked good. That way you still can have your ferry...
