Jolly Marvellous London Walk - The City - Part 2 (West)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 26 вер 2024
- This is another splendid London walk around The City but this time the Western part.
Joolz visits the Bank of England, Mansion House (where the Lord Mayor of London lives), The Temple of Mithras, The London Stone, Watling Street (Featuring Queen Boudicca), The Mummy of Jimmy Garlick, The Vintners Hall, Dick Whittington and a street with such a rude name that it had to be changed.

I nominate Joolzy for Lord Mayor of the Worshipful Company of UA-camrs.
Good idea!
I second that wholeheartedly!!
Here Here
Coat of arms to feature a bowler hat, cane and pint of ale.
UA-cam logo and a load of abusive comments underneath , surely!!!
‘I’ll come into your bedroom and ruin your performance tonight’ I can’t stop laughing! Excellent video as always Joolz!
He'd probably be glad of the company.
Joolz would probably stop mid session and tell you some history ahah
Brilliant comeback! 🤣
I knew I wasn't the only one impressed with the moment of SAVAGE JOOLZ 😄
“I’ll leave this up to vintage Joolz”
Evening Joolz, My 85 year old Dad used to work in Holborn and walk around exploring. He is in lockdown in Portugal and I showed him how to watch your channel on his tablet. He really enjoys it and has binged watched you. Thanks 👍🏻
My 7 year-old daughter did a ‘show and tell’ at school earlier this year about the Great Fire of London and explained to her class why Sir Christopher Wren started the fire (and she also told them that Charles II didn’t want his statue on top of the Monument because he didn’t start the fire and he liked the song ‘we didn’t start the fire’). You are an inspiration, Joolz. Thank you.
Oh goodness.... I guess "sorry" just doesn't quite say it! Well, I'm so pleased that she enjoyed the films and found them useful. I do hope you explained to her that some of these things were jokes. I hope she delivered it well in class and got a good laugh from her teachers! Hey..you never know! It's still my theory!
"Thanks, I'll come into your bedroom tonight and ruin your performance!"
.... that left me staring with my mouth on the floor. Joolz has some sass in him, haha
I'll never get to London, but with Joolz it's like have a friend take me around, and I don't even have to buy him a beer! Come on, everyone who can - $1 per month on Patreon. Help this awesome guy entertain us!
Sean L you can get there!
I thoroughly enjoy the fact you continue to enjoy a beverage at the conclusion.
Even if it's cider
@@Joolzguides Oh arr.
@@Joolzguides even bottle of scotch in the park
So glad you are still out and about giving us your insightful stories of history, humor and nonsense. Please never stop. You always put a smile on my face.
I was the crazy guy shouting "hello Jules" from across the street when you were making this video 👋👋
MP 10ft and FP 12ft I think are water pressure indicators for the fire brigade
Fire hydrant markers?
MP = Mains pressure FP= Fire Point
I like the lockdown tours! You see the city in a different perspective with no one about. It's your knowledge of the history of the city and quirky side details that make your show so interesting though. But you're so gregarious, I think you miss the interaction!
Yes, that's why i throw in the vintage clips
@@Joolzguides I used to live there long ago and it was like this on Sundays . I walked and cycled around and saw the Mithras excavations. It was very crowded then during the week as people walked to the Stock Exchange and sent messenger boys from broker to broker. Lot's of traffic. . I went to the primary school near London Wall.
Tea, toast, marmite and Joolz, purrfeckt 😁
Nice one 👍
Check out my new city walk channel, please🙏 Thanks
Running to get a cup of tea and settle down to watch! so excited!
Pip pip tally ho, Joolz Guides here! You cheer me up everytime I see your video notification come up 😁🔔 going to enjoy this now!
I move out of my country to London, UK at the age of 17. I've been living in this city for the last 10 years. I could never get bored of living here.
I've been a Londoner for around 25 years and I have not explored my beautiful city as much I would have liked but I now take trips with my kids using your guide. Thank you!
Don't stop reading the little plaques! We care! I am so fascinated by the old city of London. Had to defer this year's trip so these episodes are perfect! Thanks. 😎
Unable to get back to London because of you know what, so I'm binge watching your delightful videos instead.
Glad to see you refrained from urinating up any of the statues.
The city of London is such a interesting place
Much more interesting than New York.
It's very strange too -- in that it's its own city, like the Vatican and has roots that go back to the Knights Templar and other secret societies. It's more like Washington than new york
@Tigers Wood London has more character than New York. Londoners are more polite than New Yorkers. The NY cops are thick and a bunch of piss-arses.
@@ButchCassidyAndSundanceKid Its much older. I feel that nyc is americas London in ways.
@@annother3350 it was actually founded by the Romans, and is the original London
It's a sunny Sunday and its Joolzy time....its gunna be a good day folks 😅😅
Love what you do! Your personality is delightful. And the historic info a treasure.🇨🇦✌️🙏❤️👍🌿😏
Joolz thank goodness for you love your old school way of explaining Blessings and peace to you 😇🙏✌️
Truly enjoy "Julian's "Joolz Guides, look forward to every episode even through the lockdown. Always insightful and full of knowledge.
It's 3am and your video has brought a smile , many smiles to my face. We've had "sad" times in our family here in Northern Italy in the last three months...
I do hope you are more at peace now.
I’ve been to London many times for work. It’s one of my favorite cities in the world. You have a great way of showing the things about the city that I truly appreciate. Keep up the good work! Cheers!! 🍻
You are my Sunday morning routine . . . THANKS VERY MUCH. 😊💓🙏🏻👍🏻
Thank you, Joolz. Your videos always cheer me up. A very bright corner of the Web.
Your right, even in the 70s every other fella in the city was dressed like you are,I love it
Love your choice of music in all your videos.
It's mostly Jools' sister
Absolutely love London!! Perhaps next time my wife and I are there, we could have a walk with you! So much history to learn about the city!!
Similar in function to the London Stone in London, there is the Boston Stone (which marks the spot from which all milestones are measured) in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. It was put in place 1737, but was used by a paint maker before that to grind pigments. Several milestones are still in place, as well.
Jolly, jolly, Good!
Amazing videos & information. These are absolutely the only videos that I’ll stop what I’m doing and watch, whenever I get a pop up notification, you never disappoint Jools, and the added addition of little lost lou’s music makes the video even more amazing.
Thanks..although now i feel the pressure to perform!
thank you very much . Is always nice to know someone noticed my little input x have a great day
@@Joolzguides 😊
I always enjoy your sister's music which accompanies your video tours.
Thank you so much it’s nice when someone notices x
I've wondered about the music. That explains it. It suits too!
I hope you can enjoy a pint after your interesting video...still in lockdown after 7 months, geez!
Splendid, marvellous, chocs away my good man, splendid indeed
Joolz, once again, that was lovely. That was so interesting. The funny way you tell all the stories compensates for everything being closed. We have got a Joke Mayor in Bristol too. As well as our proper Lord Mayor as from centuries ago. One of my ancestor families was Cordwainers but they were in Taunton,Somerset. We had to look up what it was. I have visited the Goldsmiths Hall.
Joolzy: a big thank you from the bottom of my heart. I love how you walk the streets. And envy you for being able to do it right now. London is the best in most perspectives! I hope everything will turn into normal in the near future, at least almost.
Another great video thanks for sharing it with us from Northern Ireland ☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️
I often just train it into the city just for a wonder about, I find something new and interesting each time. Probably one of my favourite places in the world.
Promise us Joolz that you'll never stop making vids.
Someday I'll be able to visit London, somehow.
Until then at least I have Joolz to take me to London & all its quirky parts that make it great.
hello julian, i love your channel. im from slovakia. i lived in london for over twoo years. from 2007 to 2009. london has changed a lot since then. especially this particular area. some parts of london are realy stunning. im looking forward to seeing a new video
Thanks Jool’s, your walks and commentary are second to none relating to London’s rich and diverse history. An amazing city dripping with historical characters around every corner. One should visit London at least once during their lifetime. Cheers from Kelowna, Beautiful British Columbia , Canada. Request you do a stroll through Greenwich and surrounding area, finishing off with a visit to a near by pub.
Jules - another terrific walk around London that keeps me sane and amused! Let's hope they remove these crazy restrictions and allow visitors to come to the UK without 14 days quarantine - then you'll be my guide around the quirky parts of London. Please keep it up!
New to these videos...where have i been....fantastic and really informative...yeah they gotta make Joolz lord mayor of London...fantastic
This is outstanding work! I am learning a lot about London . Visited several times and never knew much about it. Very nice. Thank you
Love the way you pull the viewer in to the story. So much history in just 22 minutes, amazing. "I'll come into your bedroom and ruin your performance tonight" classic........
London is such a beautiful & interesting city, Well done as always Joolz.
Nice one 👍
Check out my new city walk channel, please🙏 Thanks
Thank you Joolz for another informative and extremely entertaining tour. As we can't get to London at the moment you bring it to us! We look forward to your next video.
Nice one 👍
Check out my new city walk channel, please🙏 Thanks
Perfect viewing with a nice soup. Thanks!
Joolz love all your vid of our rich historical city.
Im a retired plumber and started my apprentiship in 60s when copper, lead, galv steel, cast iron rainwater/soil pipework ,only material available.
the red metal guard in front of the pipe in you vid was to protect the access connector behind for clearing blockages from damage.
cast iron is still used mainly heritage specification sites longlasting very expensive but not a eye soar like plastic.
Thanks again for all your vid you are a gem.
Malcolm from wombleland.
Thanks for keeping us informed and entertained over the last few months Julian! The family wishes you well ... stay safe and healthy ... we need you to keep making videos. Cheers!
Rewatching old videos :) never gets old! These are keeping me going whilst in lockdown. DAMN I MISS MY LONDON!!! Thank you Joolz :)
Thanks for giving me a reason to dream of travel and smile! Always wanted to come to London and your videos make me want to do it even more now, and to see and learn about parts of it that most tourists don't take the time to see. Love your style, your humor, the way you present information, and how we get to see areas that aren't just the normal "touristy stuff" and we don't just hear the "same old-same old" facts about a place because of the entertaining style you have. Would LOVE to see you do a Vlog showing pictures of London after/during the War showing the destruction that was caused and seeing how those same areas in the pictures came back and look now with the old buildings rebuilt and/or new ones in their place (like how you did with the picture of the awnings at Electic Avenue in your "Rather Superb tour of Brixton" Vlog) and how London rebuilt itself to come back stronger. Keep the Vlogs coming!
Nice one 👍
Check out my new city walk channel, please🙏 Thanks
We were looking forward to this. (Couldnt visit London this year)
simply great stuff.
9.47 Is exactly why I come to these vlogs. Fascinating.
Joolz for knighthood for spreading the love of england to so many people through entertainment.
My wife and I visited London in 2016 not knowing about you then. I see and learn more in one of your videos than I did in the week I spent there. I hope to go back in the next few years. Thank you for your wonderful work. It is much appreciated.
Joolzy!!!! No Sunday is complete without you.....
Joolz I bet that you can't wait until the Pubs Open....nevertheless another great Video... CHEERS
I think we'll all drink to that
Love this one👍🙏
I stayed in New Bridge area in 2013 and loved the area. Huge difference from week day to week-end. So much history and I took several London Walks that helped me find places and areas I would never of found on my own. I was looking forward to my April 2020 and to be able to view the Mithra's Temple at Bloomberg Headquarters but we all know how that went; borders closed . But I am hopeful to rebook this fall or winter as I love the history of London and finding hidden gems. I love Joolz Guides videos and they always make me long to be back in London.
Thanks for video even if things are closed down 🙏
Keep doing your walks Joolz even though its lockdown they are always so enjoyable to watch
I absolutely love your videos!!
I have family in Essex that I hope to visit in 2021. I will definitely look you up when I come to London.
Cheers mate
Nice one 👍
Check out my new city walk channel, please🙏 Thanks
I love lock-down Sunday brunch w new Joolz vids! In Oct 2018, I took a water taxi from Parliment up to the Tower of London, and then walked to St Paul's. It was so interesting going down little side lanes, etc. I stopped at Ye Old Cheshire Cheese to have lunch, after I stumbled upon Dr Johnson's house. London has so much history! I can't wait to go back. Cheers 🍺 from America
Education is brilliant
I really appreciate, that even through a lockdown, you are still putting out quality content. Thank you Joolzy and stay safe.
It doesn't matter to me, Julian, that everything is closed. I thought this video was marvellous, as always. I used to love to do what you do ie wandering around such lanes & streets of your beautiful city. You are like an encyclopedia of what's what in London. Fascinating stuff!!! I lived in London, off & on, between 1975 & 1991 when it wasn't nearly so clean as it is now. I thank you for allowing me to visit London again through the medium of your wonderful videos.
You are an absolute balm. Thank you
Nothing like a Sunday morning coffee and watching Joolz Guides. Yet another great London video. Cheers from the Colonies.
Another great vid Joolz! Love all the history you always bring us!!!
👍👍. Excellent !! Thanks a lot.
Let's hope those statues are still around tomorrow then ;).
There's always " vintage Joolz " ...
@@phmwu7368 Good point. At some point these videos could be really valuable. Maybe he should consider putting them on DVD.s or something and sell? He can add in the guys from Time Team to make it really good :). I know DVD is old school but they can't touch my Fawlty Towers dvds ;).
I do hope so...
I mean, I wouldn't be sad if the Clive statue in Whitehall moved to a museum. He was hated by his contemporaries in the 18th century and even when it was erected at the beginning of the 20th century loads of people questioned the wisdom of honoring a vicious colonialist/asset-stripper.
@@bonniea8189 Where does it end though? -- next thing they'll be marching on Buck Palace
Thank you. With so much too depressed one these days it’s nice to have a place to go for a few minutes to distract your mind. Jolly good show keep up the good work.
Nice one 👍
Check out my new city walk channel, please🙏 Thanks
I was told that that Dick Whittington's 'Cat' was the name of the trading ships which made his fortune - Great vid again - fantastic work.
I hear that too! 🤔
I'm missing Blighty, thanks sooo much for this
You are never dull! It is the little bits and pieces of spontaneous information that make your videos so interesting! Thank you for this one!
One of the best channels on UA-cam.
Luvly stuff
This may be complete cahones but I think the MP 10ft and similar signs may indicate the hydraulic power supply pipe(s) buried below There were several power companies supplying water power to the City. When I was Articled one of 'our' clients had an office in Broad Strret with a working hydralic lift in it.
When you pulled the cord there was a sound of a 'great and mighty flush' as the hydralic motor wound you up the buliding. It caused great amusement.....
My old college had it's organ blower powered by water - good for Handel's works???
Mains Pressure, Fire Pressure? LOL
It must be for fire or water surely.
The loading cranes at St Pancras goods yard were water powered back in the 1960s
Parish boundaries.
You carry an umbrella well-perhaps the best I have seen anyone do it
Great Vid as always... spiffing 👍
Still would love maps of the walks. Want to come for a month and explore all. Will need maps.
Cheers for keeping us up to date on Blighty
Yet another GREAT London Video Keep it up
This is most entertainment channel on youTube....
FP stands, I believe, for Fire Point, also known as Fire Hydrant, the point where a hose is attached to fight a fire, located under a cover in the street or pavement, and the distance is how far it is from the marker. I haven't come across MP.
Another wonderful video. Where you started the video is just around the corner from where we stayed in March. I like seeing sites in your video that we have visited. Brings back memories.
Greathead?? I'm so glad to see you Joolz. And I'm glad to see the vintage Joolz too. There really should be a Worshipful Company of Tour Guides with you in charge of it. Thanks and stay well.
Brilliant video again. Such a joy and laugh watching this! Well done.
Again a great video about London. I'm eager to visit the City again.
LOL! Love your resourcefulness creating your own "pub" during the pandemic on the riverfront! Have enjoyed your videos for a few years now. Thank you. Hope tourism rebounds in London quickly for you. Best - Laura Kaye (native New Yorker)
Joolz addicted!!!! Hope I can visit London some day again walking through all my childhood areas we stayed in Knightsbridge behind Harrods I went to school in ennismore gardens 😇🙏🎉🎊
That little wharf you are standing at at the end, I think that is in a scene from David Cronemberg's Russian Promises.
We stayed at Le Meridien in Piccadilly in August 2019. Wow thanks for doing this video. We will book a tour with you when we visit London in 2022.
Great video as always Joolz, i think I've worked through almost all your London videos, look forward to the new ones. You will have to start venturing out to the out skirts! Dare i say it even south of the river again, make sure your visa is valid!
Nice one 👍
Check out my new city walk channel, please🙏 Thanks
