police sending out warning letters is a sign they have lost interest in prosecuting offenders and no longer take mobile phone usage whilst driving seriously
It's been mentioned on this channel many times recently that there are long court delays, possibly due to the structural concrete problems in some of the courts. Mikey has mentioned that more recent cases are being prosecuted again.
@@chrispop99 I'd like to believe that about the structural concrete in courts, but these cases are dealt with mostly by 6 points and the offender accepting the points without court intervention. It’s within their “range “ of powers. They’ll get a bunch of appeals otherwise and the court system can’t cope. The number of mobile phone drivers in London must be in the tens of thousands a week. Met can’t cope so easier just to send a warning letter. Especially as they only have 14 days.

The Met will just deter people from reporting these offences and potentially put more innocent people at risk☹.
I suspect much like speed cameras, a warning needs to be displayed otherwise it could be considered entrapment so they can't be prosecuted. Maybe the borough needs to install some "Mikey mobile phone checks in operation" signs.
