Love this. I like zipper binder because it also prevents accidental spills from getting in/ on your pages. I was at Starbucks once with a friend. We were going over some plans and by accident someone knocked over a drink my pages were the only ones that didn't get wet because at the time my planner was on the table zipped.😊

Great video! I use to have a zipper binder when I worked and it annoyed people when I would open and close the binder. I then switched to the snap and haven’t looked back. Keep up the great videos.

Thanks for the Video Mrs. Tonya. I've seen all of the different types of Binders on the Franklin Planner Web Site. I went with the Friday Nylon Zippered Binder. The Leather & Simulated Leather Binders were too Expensive. I was thinking about changing the Ring Size, from a 1.25" to a 1.5" size. My only concern is if the zipper will close with the larger size Rings.

I prefer an open binder, no zips or snaps, but they're not made that often. I've never had the need for the snap or the zipper--they get in the way. I leave them open all the time. I bought the Jackson open binder, dark brown leather, when FC offered it. I found an older open binder, DayTimer, burgundy leather, at thrift.

This is an interesting video, you bring up points that folks think about but don't ever realize they are not the only ones to have this issue! I have gone both zipper and snap and I prefer snap because I often put papers in my binder that would never fit if there were a zipper. At 4:59 pm I am like holy moly its time to pack up and leave, so I just close my binder with every paper and sticky, pens, highlighters still in it and put it in my tote bag to take home. I think this is a reason I cannot get away from paper binders and go solely electronic, because where would I put the papers??!!

Hey hi! I love this! You raise some good points.

Finally someone has addressed this issue!
I have both zippered and snap binders. The zippered one is the old FC 'Livi' in blue. I LOVE it, except for it's hard to grip & carry. It needs some texture or handles of some kind, which is doubly important with arthritic hands.
One of it's advantages is when open the zipper acts as a shelf where i can set my pens & markers and they don't roll away. Snap binders don't have that convenience.
Lately i'm loving quilted binders like the one you showed, for the textural grip. But they are hard to find in colors & rings i like.
I have a question nobody seems to know the answer to, maybe you can help Tonya. . . WHY do planners have seven rings?? 8.5x11 notebooks all have only THREE rings which is good enough for all sizes binders, so why do the smaller planner binders have SEVEN?? All that extra weight is unnecessary and inconvenient. Because of this issue i have permanently moved into discbound, even though there's actually more discs to them their weight is very light.
WHO decided there should be six & seven rings in smaller binders and only three in the bigger notebooks??? Makes no sense to me at all!

I might be able to answer this question for you, the “8.5 x 11 in.” size you are referring to is considered to be what is known as “The U.S./American Standard letter size,” for most non planner notebooks and school supplies. It is “compatible” with/to the “Franklin Planner” “Monarch” size. (and it should be noted that the “Franklin Classic” size being measured exactly half this), These are Standards b based in The U.S./America only.
Most Planners before “Franklin Quest,” “Mead,” and “Day Timer” (again please note: ALL U. S. based companies!) were measured differently with sizes such as “A5,” “B5,” “B2” “A6” “A7, “Mini” “Pocket”, (with no “Standard” for the Word definitions” etc. And most of the Binders having usually only 4 to 6 rings divided in half top and bottom, or as many as a full 8-12 Rings along the edges (most dic bound planners).
Day-Timer and later Franklin Planner were the 2 companies to create “7 Ring Standards” for larger notebook sized and half notebook sized Planners!
      I hope that helps!

Totally forgot to mention why the Standard “3-Ring binder” While I’m not 100% certain on this, I believe that came about due to an “American Academic supplies” Standard Created by a notebook Company from the early 1800’s that got bought out by what is now the U.S. Company “MEAD.” Correct me if I’m wrong!
“MEAD” late further innovated on the basic 3 Ring Binder concept with “Trapper Keeper” in the late 1970’s!

The small strap on the right side annoys me when I'm writing, because it's curling up, touches the hand and distracts me. That's for me the main reason I'm looking for zipped or open binders.
