  • I went to Argentina to see a partial solar eclipse in September 2007. Overnight from 9. to 10. September 2007 an active MCS formed between Mar del Plata and Buenos Aires. It was early spring in that area. I chased the MCS between Balcarce and Santa Teresita. It is southern hemisphere here, so the structure of the MCS was reversed compared to what we are used to in Northern Hemisphere. New likely elevated cells were forming on the north side of the MCS while the whole system was propagating east-southeast. There were very strong wind gusts on the gust front of the MCS, likely due to the dry ambient air, which also led to good visibility of the strikes. This MCS produced many CGs, CCs and anvil crawlers and it was the most lightning-active storm I'd seen to date in 2007.
