This was just what I am looking for. I love the idea of considering my plein air as a sketch not a museum piece.( not that I am at museum level) I think I need to get over the idea that every time I paint it needs to be a complete piece worthy of hanging. I use a sketch book a lot for “sketching” but possibly I need to switch to my “good” paper instead. Thank you !
Going to paint plein air with a local artist for my first time next week so your video arrived at the perfect time. Thank you for sharing so many wonderful tips!
Wow! Thank you for making this video! so inspiring and I loved the part of setting your expectations! I sometimes feel guilty for spending so much my time outside when I know that a studio painting would get a better finished painting! but you saiyig that it will come back to me in the stdio helps me :) next time I will not feel bad about hours spent on "simple" sketches :)
Great video, as always. As a francophone, allow me to tell you that your pronunciation of plein air is very good. Long story short, the word “plein” on its own is hard for anglophones to pronounce properly but because the following word starts with a vowel, the pronunciation becomes simple. Think of the first syllable of the word plenty … followed by air. Plen air .. should be very simple for anglophones to pronounce.

This inspires me to pick up the brushes again 🥰
I love the message that your plein air painting might not be something you want to hang on your wall and that's perfectly ok.
