Such amazing views of the area. Thank you for taking us along on your paddle down the Iskar River, from Sofia to Vlado Trichkov, Bulgaria. It’s striking to see how much debris and fallen trees remain after the floods, nature's powerful reminder of the forces at play. What an adventure.
A Bulgarian here! Thanks for dropping by! I feel like I need to bring in some clarity here. The Iskar river didn't get flooded in 2024. Bosnia and Slovenia had floods. We just had the regular spring high flow. The reason for all the fallen trees is the poor maintenance the river bed and banks get from the authorities. The last flood and post-flood cleansing in that area date back to 2006. The river might look stunning through the lens but its banks are full of illegal junkyards. You probably felt the smell. Most of the sewage(incl. industrial one) in the north-eartern part of the city and the suburbs flows straight into the river. All the algae that you see is a result of that. Try paddling on a Sunday morning when everyone is at home and poops hard. You can barely breath by the river bank sometimes! Go south of Sofia and you will see a completely different thing. Gin clear water, no algae, no smell and tons of life!
Wow, so interesting, thank you so much for the local intel! Paddling 3-4 meters below so much flotsam hanging in the trees was a new and quite remarkable experience for me. The foul smell that you explain was indeed noticeable, as is the incredible amount of debris in the river, evident in the footage. I had the pleasure of seeing some beautiful clear water flowing over Boyana Waterfall at the edge of the Vitosha mountain massif (ua-cam.com/video/r5eYNC9_Gho/v-deo.html). Not the upper Iskar that you mention, but spectacular, and so close to Sofia. Have a great weekend!

Exploring the waters of the Iskar River from Sofia to Vlado Trichkov, Bulgaria. The atmosphere and impact after the flood which killed dozens of people and caused extensive damage. I sympathize with this disaster, my friend. Thank you for sharing this real video.

a beautiful footage of the iskar river. The river itself seems to be peaceful, but the dead trees shows how much power the river had. Another highlight is the scary trainstation at the end. Great footage!
Lo0vely share,i visited Bulgaria some time ago but things look better from your lenses.im lookiing forward to seeing more of your videos in the future, greetings friend
Thank you, and yes, a bit lonely on that river, with no one else out there paddling all day. I also don't speak Bulgarian, and the old lady crossing the foot bridge with her goats did not stop to chat anyway.
Thank you for this fascinating video! The Iskar tour after the devastating floods is not only exciting, but also impressively documented. The variety of moments in particular - from the remains of the flood to the quiet sections in the Iskar Gorge - offers a unique insight into nature and the effects of the floods. The impressive shots of bridges and river plants as well as the encounters with the animals and the local population make the video a real experience. Simply beautiful and educational! 🚣♂🌿
