    I just typed in 18 foot sailboat because I wanted to see someone playing around in one. This is literally exactly what I was looking for. Please keep sailing and posting videos. I'm eager to see what y'all get up to!

    Since you've got an outboard motor, you should always bring the boat head to wind before hoisting sail. Also, most always raise the main first. That tends to keep the boat head to wind, until you've got everything under control.

      Thank you. Yeah I had to look again but we weren’t lined up directly into the wind as I had thought. But raising the main first does make much more sense. Thanks for the advice!

      @Nick Cravey Sailing A sailboat with sails up is like a car with the motor running. If the boat is head to wind, the boat is in neutral. If the boat isn't head to wind, the boat is in drive.

    lovely ,she sails good ,your sail number is the hull number 64th boat produced ,it has basic easy to use running rigging but you can add turn pulleys and cam cleats to the gib sheats make things go smoother for you ,maybe battery and solar panel for camping out night lights its got the making of a really good little sailing boat

      Thanks! I am working on the lights now. I think that the boom maybe be a roller for reefing. So I am trying to figure that one out. I did not know that about the sail number so thank you for sharing.

      @@Ncfsailing2 all sailboats use hull number on the sails that way no one will ever have same number on their main sail good for race events and easy to identify every boat

      Hello, I was thinking about your recommendation with the turn pulleys and cam cleats. Just so I understand what you mean, do you think I should install turn pulleys along the deck on each side that the gib sheet run through?

      @@Ncfsailing2 not on the deck as such but were you sit or stand in the cockpit that gives you good stable balanced pulling strength were you can jam your feet and knees and your arms are free to pull and swing about make it easier for you ,and on my boat they are about 25/30 inches back from the line of the companionway door they position on the top flat of the combing were you would step aboard the boat into cockpit,habe the turn pulling bolted down then the jammer cleat next to it so that you pull the line round a right angle then jam onto the cleat ,hope all that makes sense to you

    • @Ncfsailing2
      @Ncfsailing2  11 місяців тому

      @@theresnobodyhere5778 ok I see! Yes that would make things much easier. Currently there is a swivel cam cleat the lines run through but it is mounted on the deck high up and forward of the companion way. An awkward angle to control for sure. Thanks again for the advice.

    Is this a Renken 18 ? I recently bought one for my first sailboat and was wanting some tips and recommendations for tack and upgrades and a stuff

      It’s actually a windcraft 18. They do look similar it seems with the low profile cabin. I hope you are able to find some good ideas for upgrades. I’m sure it will be a lot of fun. I have been liking the 18ft size.

    Great video! Always looking forward to the next one. Was that Lake Santa Fe? I'm in Melrose. I'm currently learning how to sail. Keep up the videos!

    Glad you had a good time ... just a suggestion ... watch the base of your mast toward the end of the video. I couldn't help notice some worrying flexing at the base that was also flexing the cabin top (8:47 - 9:27). I think that your shrouds should have been a bit tighter watch port shroud at about (10:08 to end) looks a bit loose.

    • @Ncfsailing2
      @Ncfsailing2  Рік тому

      Thank you and good catch. Yes I do believe the shrouds should be tighter. I’m currently trying to find a new system to do that. As of right now I don’t have a way of adding tension.

      Hi Robert, just following back up on your note which is greatly appreciated. I found that the deck where the mast is connected, under the tabernacle, is very soft. Most of the through holes it seems were not sealed and I believe water has found its way in. I released those holes and built a makeshift frame to try and help add some structure underneath. Hopefully it helps and doesn't just cause more issues. I believe I can tighten the shrouds more by inserting them into lower holes where it is connected. Hard to do when it is up but maybe I can do it before I raise it. Thank you
