Very interesting, but I would like to know which 60s writers - who were from Kim Stanley Robinson's genre rather than the "high modernists" - he has in mind when he says they blew away the convention that Sci Fi could not compete in literary terms. I have started a few of Robinson's books and while they definitely appeal as sort of ecological thrillers, underpinned by thorough scientific understanding, they are simply not literature and cannot hold a candle to post WWII American writers such as Roth, Bellow, etc.
What a fantastic discussion - made me want to read them both very much!
This is absolutely amazing. Two of my favorite authors!
Excellent, thank you!
These lists Jonathan read is a unique kind of poetry
