I haven't made napkins for a few years, and lately I wanted to make more, but couldn't remember how to miter the corners. So of course I turned to UA-cam, I sewed 4 napkins with the mitered corners done 3 different ways, I wasn't really happy with how they were done, they turned out nice, I just didn't like how to get them there, finally I came across your video 😊, and I'm so glad I did, your way makes the most beautiful miters, in the easiest way possible, so I will do all my miters this way from now on. Thank You so much for sharing your time, and your talent with all of us.
Mind blown! Those mitered corners are perfect and exactly what I’ve tried to make for years and have never accomplished until this video!! Thank you, thank you, thank you.
I'm always trying to find ways to be eco friendly and never even thought about cloth napkins! I have so much left over quilting cotton that I'm going to get started making these napkins for my family. Thank you so much for sharing your ideas and your fabulous tutorials.
I just sewed up some napkins using your techniques and they look awesome! Since I'm not really a sewer it was super easy. I'm gifting a few to my friend too. Thank you for sharing your craft!❤
Wow! I've always assumed that mitered corners are tricky, but your tutorials make everything easier. You've certainly inspired me to stop using paper napkins. One more use for those I can think of: reusable gift wrap (especially if made from some cute fabric). On a side note: love your t-shirt:D have a great holiday season!
Cloth napkins make a great holiday gift or hostess gift. I use a double layer of fabric just in case of future food stains. Thanks for sharing this awesome sewing idea♥
OMG! Melissa, thank you! So much easier than all of the extra finicky, cutting stuff. I still have some fine-tuning--despite using a seam gauge, a couple of my corners didn't line up perfectly (a teeny gap at the mitered part), but they still look nice and even everywhere else. Woohoo!
Thank you very much! This looks a lot easier than the other videos that give instructions to sew the miter. I like your easy folding technique much better. I can't wait to try your way to make folded mitered corners on my napkins.. I always like the easiest and most efficient way to do things and this is exactly what I was looking for to make my napkins! You explained it in a very easy manner to understand your technique.
OMGosh. Thank you so much for the beautifully explained n the grids you penned. If seen many. They either go a bit too fast or are unclear. But I finally understand.
wow! that was so well explained and fantastic visuals so it is really easy to figure out! so glad i found your video! great idea to use and make your own pressing guide! thank you so much!
If you use quilting cotton, don't your napkins wrinkle? Do press your everyday napkins? That seems like a hassle and makes extra work. Are there any permanent press fabrics one could use for napkins? I'm new to sewing (and fabrics), so thanks for any advice you can give.
I use quality quilting cottons and they don’t wrinkle much. I also don’t iron the few wrinkles they do get, because they’re just for daily use. And the longer I have them and more washes they’ve gone through, the less wrinkles they get.
@@MellysewsOkay, awesome. Thank you very much for that advice and sharing your experience. I'm trying to move to more "green" household options like this, but am slow getting on the band wagon. I appreciate your reply.
I just made my first napkins ever. How in the world do I remove oil stains from napkins which I can forecast will be after every dinner. I’m not afraid of scrubbing either.
Love that this process doesn't require extra cuts and sewing for the mitered corners like other tutorials I have seen and used!
You can cut off the corner where I did the first fold across the squares and it will make the corner less bulky, but this works too.

Nice! How do you move the needle over on a mechanical machine? I have the brother st371hd
You'd need to consult your machine manual to see if that's an option.
Thank you!
You're welcome!
Exactly what I was looking for 😂❤❤❤
Thanks for watching!
I’m not sure What fabric should I buy at my fabric store.
Duck cotton; cotton linen; cotton canvas? Thank you; your instructions were excellent!
Those are all thicker fabrics. The ones in this video are 100% cotton quilting fabric.
Thank you so much!!
You're welcome!

Omg if I took one thing away from this video, it was to use a edge to make an even fold for pressing.
It's a pretty useful trick.
Yes! What a simple and quick solution for getting the hems even! And love your technique for the corners! Thank you!
I just made my first napkins ever. How in the world do I remove oil stains from napkins which I can forecast will be after every dinner. I’m not afraid of scrubbing either.
I just wash mine in hot water 🤷🏻♀️
🎉Great video. I've always had trouble with mitered corners. I made 6 napkins and got enough practice to not forget!😅
That's great!
