Short Field X Wind Landing - Ikarus C42B Microlight

In this video clip I am flying a left hand circuit using the short 500ft microlight pattern from runway 26 at Shobdon. The conditions are a bit blustery with a 7-10kt crosswind from the north. I am landing on the very short 300m grass strip on the southside of the airfield to practice my short field landing technique. Normally we would use full 2nd stage drag flap for this task but due to the crosswind I chose to just use 1st stage and approach a little faster to help improve control authority. It is quite interesting to see the drift angle required on final approach.

Thanks Fraser, landings are definately the most challenging aspects of flying......and every single one is different. I'm still amazed that a perfect stabilised approach can end up with a shockingly bad landing. But occasionally, very occasionaly, it all comes together and the touchdown is like an angel's kiss

Not a lot of room with only one stage of flap, bit hairy across that arable field when windy. Great video! 👍😊

Strictly speaking its not a short field landing. Its a touch and go.

It's a short field......and I landed! If you recall I did mention that it was a practice session and was more about the crosswind than short field landings. Stopping, backtracking and waiting for clearance reduces the number of circuits from about 12 per hour to about 8 hence my choice for touch and go's

With the greatest of respect runway 26 is 810m long, shouldn't the title be cross wind touch and go on a really long airstrip?

No I don't think so. At least I've never seen one. I did spot one in the Vixxen derivative of the EuroFox recently though
