Hey Everyone! This liquid gas powered candle lantern heater is working out great. I was able to survive the Snowpocalypse which hit Flagstaff and Sedona thanks to the heat provided by this set up. A nice added bonus is the ability to cook over the hot plate at the top of the candle lantern. Up next I'll post a video on how to make this, it's pretty simple to do. As long as you're safe with these types of lanterns, they pose no risk to your well being.

A gallon can of Crisco with 4 cotton wicks (bigger, hotter flame) will last ( non stop day and night ) for 20 days. I live in Canada (which can sometimes be brisky). At 30 below in my 15ft. trailer (insulated) I run 3 of those and of course I have no condensation because it is a dry heat as opposed to propane which produces condensation. I have non stop lighting (easy to control), Heating, and cooking. Amen.

How do you insert the wicks? Or do you use a different can?

Wondering if I can put a TEG fan combo on top of my UCO single candle. Would help circulate air around in a small vehicle.

I'd be interested to hear if it would work on a single candle. If you try it out, would you mind circling back to let me know if it works? ~ Brian

Nice vid man , would you say the clean fuel blows the candles out the door on heating ? Just curious how much better? The candles shouldn't cause as much condensation. I'm thinking about getting one for myself, I got a highrise topper on my ram diesel with a liner.

Been watching your videos for a while...good stuff. In my topper I use a Dietz Lantern with that clean burning lamp fuel ( not pure kerosene) The model I use id a Dietz Jupiter 2500, about 30 bucks. The wick is 7/8 wide and puts out some decent light. While the lantern is kinda large, dietz also has some smaller lanterns with the 7/8 wide wick. I read some where the Jupiter was intended for long burn times and to keep green houses warmer. It puts out 1400 BTU.

An idea, could you drill a bunch of holes (or something to that effect) in the hot plate part so it doesn't absorb as much energy, possibly heating food n liquids faster, maybe not needing to be removed when not being used. Who knows, just a thought.
I also saw this candle to oil lamp deal when PSC (think it's for Prius stealth camper) channel did his. That dude's ideas are so well thought out, really enjoy his vids as well as yours. Thanks for the content, appreciate it.

@@insaynbcr I think I would want to leave the hot plate on as a buffer not to have direct heat rising to burn the carpet inside the topper.

    Butter cookie can stove.
Fill can with oil. Make holes all over the lid an inch apart with a thin nail. 10 inch yarn strings through all the holes. let them hang into the oil. Close the lid. fire her up. 3 small rocks in a triangle pattern on top the lid around the fire will hold your pan about an inch from flame. Cooks just as good as a stove. Even better if the you use more strings. Not responsible if you get burned or you burn your house down. 😁😊👀

There's no such thing as heat being wasted, but I want to know if you had a ventilator spot to get fresh air? Because you gotta be careful of burning all of the oxygen with that while you sleep? I want to do this very thing but am worried about how to be safe in doing it.

Go to Ebay and find you a WW2 GI "pocket stove"...Or visit a good sporting goods store and buy a Coleman camp/pocket stove....The old GI pocket stove certainly would cook a lot of food...….Perfect for a truck camper

Hey Brian, I wanted to pick your brain on something. I'm currently sleeping in the back of My Tacoma on trips (5 ft. bed) with an extension similar to yours only in Cordura. I'm about to pull the trigger on an ARB Simpson III with the annex to mount on top and just wondered why you haven't gone this route. The biggest downside I can think of is that on windy nights a hard-sided shell would be much quieter than any kind of tent. So before I make a big mistake steer me in the right direction. Thanks, man, and just for the record...I too am down to mob. (Phil's a crack up, thank for the channel recommendation)

Hi great Idea and nice video. I would like lots more info???? Did you leave your camper top vented (window cracked)? Exactly what was the fuel you used(Coleman fuel, Regular unleaded automotive gas, lantern fuel, kerosene etc...)? I would like to try it with crisco. I thought the UCO lantern's have a glass window, is it still used? Was the fan you refered to a thermo electric stove fan (no batteries or other power source needed)? What is the approximate burn time of each airline booze bottle? Would it be safer with the dog to have that heater housed in a tied down secured empty paint can? Does it leave a black mark on the inside of the topper? I have used one of the buddy heaters (waiting for a grand oprning of a 511 store in 20 degrees) and it was warm as toast. The truck bed has a bed rug bed liner. I shut off the buddy and and slept in a military ECWSS (Extreme Cold Weather Sleep System) and was warm as toast all night without any heater. I really would like to know more cliff70chevy@gmail.com

What brand of lamp oil did you use? I used one I bought in BiMart and it gave me horrible headaches the 2 nights I used it. Supposed to be odorless. There was no black smoke nor was the flame flickering. Flames were about 3/4". My little booze bottles only lasted about 6 hours max. Trying to figure out what went wrong.

Greg Flores , hey Greg thanks for your insight. I guess I question why such a big thing is made on roaming the earth by yourself. I’m an older guy in my 60’s. I’m not a stranger to camping as that’s what I did most of my life and 90% was by myself. Most of the camping life was in Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho and several years in Alaska. I was a fly fishing guide there and in between sports was alone in one of the most vast wilderness there is on the planet. Don’t get me wrong as I enjoyed a lot of it. One thing I can guarantee you is that I really like who I am. But I can also tell you that most of it was wasted on just me seeing it. I hope you understood what I just said there. What I saw should have been seen by everybody on this earth. Good luck with your future.
