Today, our very special guest is Alex Acuña, who has played rhythm and percussion for Elvis Presley, Paul McCartney, Diana Ross and Weather Report, Whitney Houston, U2, Roy Orbison and Ella Fitzgerald to name a few. Today, he talks about his incredible career and his signature series of percussion from Gon Bops. Alex Acuna is one of the greatest musicians period - every player no matter what the instrument needs to listen and learn from this guy. Captain this should be a headline Anderton"s Video!
Never knew he played with Elvis. I was at MI (PIT) in LA Hollywood when Alex played in 87. He was great, and of course Elvis was always cool.
Alex Acuna what a legend....he was part of the Jaco Pastorius DVD that Rob Trujillo helped put together....obviously he was in weather report with Jaco Pastorius the hendrix of the bass players....I would recommend the Dvd to any Muscians young or old....Weather Report were amazing.....
“We played for audiences of 35,000+ people...just instrumental music...” I wonder if that will ever come back again! I hope so! History repeats itself!

I had no idea he played with Elvis, the King of Rock n Roll!!!!!!! That said, I’ve been playing drum kit for a while now, since I was 3, and I love it!! Now I want to add, expand my horizon, as it were. And the best way to do that, at least for me, would be to play percussion as well: djembe, congas, bongos, cajon, timbales, as well as add the other percussion instruments!!!

according to Kim Plainfield AA's 6/8 on Chick Corea's 'Dance of Chance' is the best he had heard.
of the many records AA appears on in my collection Lyle Mays eponymous album is the best for me on drumset.

I love knowing Alex is still out there doing his thing, including interviews like this.
I also really dig what he said about Elvis. Speaking very highly of Elvis and pointing out he was very down-to-earth and didn't have the arrogant airs about him that people would assume with celebrities of his caliber.
I struck me because I see many folks out there over the years that know nothing about Elvis that tend to *assume* the negative... that Alex alluded to.
So it's very telling that he felt compelled to point out Elvis was a really good guy
Anyway, great all around interview and informative across the board.
I hope Alex continues keeping Keepin' on.
