Underrated? Its one of the best music movies i ever watched,my father was musician and he loved tgis movie every time we watched it he would grab guitar amd start playing blues
Yes, totally underrated. I think a lot of the references to regional folklore and blues mythology were missed by people who aren't from the South. But interestingly some of those elements were also in Oh Brother, Where Art Thou, with Chris Thomas King's character.
Yeah but it's not really like that in Mississippi. Everybody is welcoming. Nothing like the movie. How was it a blues club in Mississippi and they literally let a white guy from Sweden come on stage and play as harmonica. One of the band members tried to hand me his guitar but I couldn't play it because I was a One of the band members tried to hand me his guitar but I couldn't play it because I was a One of the band members tried to hand me his guitar but I couldn't play it because I'm a lefty. Blacks and whites get along very good down there. However, I guess they had to do it for the drama of the movie.
When the scene opens and Frantz Frost strikes out on that harp....bruh....my soul just......man I can't even explain it. Its the real deal blues from back in the juke joint days. #passtheliquor
Blind Dog Fulton! The funny thing is that the entire group of the guys on stage in the band immediately 'kick in' and start grooving 2 seconds after Willie Brown and Lightning Boy start in with the song. I just wish they would have had the full version of the song in the movie - the one that's on the original soundtrack.
The thing about the Blues is it's been played so much it has become almost sort of ossified, institutionalized and gentrified to the point where it has become stale. Sad but true. It happens to all art forms and it is the enemy of art. Now THIS performance. This is something old that is fresh Joe Seneca and this band behind him are good. They're not ossified. They're roots. Fresh roots that are pumping down into good, fertile, black bottom soil. Getting some good fresh water and bursting up from the soil into the hot, humid, sweltering air of a summer morning with cicada bugs buzzing and blue jays sqwauking. Yep. This is good.
" the blues ain't nothing but a good man feeling bad" when I look at my soul it's too dark to see but I wish I could be good eventually. It's a mountain with a top no one can see but The King. I'm so sick of climbing the summit looks like eternity to me I've been a miner for a heart of gold but come up empty
@@jcosyn The guy in the white shirt playing mouth harp & singing at the beginning is Frank Frost. This was one of the last things he did before succeeding in drinking himself to death.
What's crazy is, if you actually go down to Mississippi regardless of color and you want to play with the band, they actually let you play. Nothing like the movie. I literally had the band that was playing try to hand me the guitar and asked me if I wanted to join in.
I kno the band ...from Greenville ms.. gtr player otis Taylor.. we jam a lot at the oil mill Nelson st..and levi's blues house..drummer fred ..his sons and I are pals since jr high
I'd really love to get this exact version of the song, dialog and all but completed to the finish. I have the soundtrack and it just aint the same. Its good, but it don't have that warmth that this version has.
I would buy a blind dog Fulton album if thr was one. . I'm not sure who that old man playing this role was, but he was great. . I'm wondering if he sang and played the harp himself. . I listened to the soundtrack and this version in the movie was way better.
Frank frost Otis guitar Taylor Mr.price bass player I forgot...my homies from Greenville, Mississippi the Sip...in the movie willie mentioned Greenville were you bound get sum uh huh yeah
I could hardly hear Ralph Macchio's electric guitar on this scene. His handle of the guitar looked fake. He did a much better and convincing job with handling the guitar in the duel with Steve Vai
Late response, but there’s a scene shortly after this one where they find a place to turn in for the night and Willie is giving Eugene a hard time about his playing, something akin to “where’d you learn to play those pussy chords, a book?” They also probably wanted to put Willie’s playing out front for this one
Such an underrated film, it was brilliant!
Indeed

The first 25 seconds is amazing!👂
One of my favorite films. This scene is the most memorable to me. The real Willie Brown is finally unleashed.

Lamartine 336 what the first Song?
Dicen que maintenance man de frank frost pero la busco y no la encuentro por ningún lado
Sonny Terry was the actual harmonica player Joe was miming it
Actually, the harmonica player was John "Juke" Logan. Sonny Terry did much of the other harp work in the film, but not in this scene.

I think that Clapton said few humble words about white guys playing the blues. And he was right
What band is this at the start of this scene?
in what key is this harp?

To bad Ralph doesn't actually play because he's got the fingers for it..
He does play.. He's NOT an officianado. He was classicaly trained as a child..
@@darkheart6854 no he never played as a child ever. He only learned enough to mimic his hands for the movie
Wish he’d have that Telecaster hidden in the background of a Cobra Kai episode…
