One of the best vocalists of all time. Nobody could sing like Donna.
Whitney was better vocally.
No one could match her vocals authority.
You have my full support here.
@SamuelM.-iz1unBrilliant response here.
@@cashdarealmoney1128Yes I agree but in terms of quality of music no
@@Apple21472 They both were. Whitney was far more successful and more well known than Donna was. Whitney sold more albums worldwide.
It's hard to believe that she passed on. She looked so beautiful and healthy. Her voice is beautiful.
Donna was the best female vocalist of the 1970s. She was the 1970s. Love you
She remains the undisputed disco Queen!! 👑
She still has no match
One of the best singers/vocalist of all time.
Yes indeed! She was what everyone else aspired to be.
Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, Linda Rondstadt might have something to say about that, but to each his own I guess.
Beautiful lady.. So sad she left us to early RIP.. Empress: Donna Summer.
I love her. I had her Bad Girl Album
She passed way too young ....rip Donna Summer
Passed away too young???

I met the lovely Donna in a mall in Nashville. I was so excited that I even recognized her... minding her own business looking at clothes I could not help myself and went straight up to her and said your Donna Summer! Yes she said ever so quiet with a smile on her face.
We had a lovely conversation. We could have talked more, she didn't mind at all.
What a memory, she's gracious and beautiful, I had no idea she died until today...May 2023.
Thank you Donna for all that you are and will be forever in our hearts.
❤
I miss you so much donna rip❤
Wow! Lucky you! This sounds like a dream.
Back in the day I saw Donna Summer in concert
3 times. My first time seeing her I went to the restroom near the stage and Donna was in there with her sister getting ready to go on stage. It has been the highlight of my life
💜
Sounds like a great moment.
I saw her on her last concert tour . She sang a tongue in cheek version of it and had the audience do the moaning parts 😉😂🤣👍
Fun memorable. 💜
Lucky you
So glad she kept the song, it's her masterpiece!
No, MacArthur Park is her masterpiece.
It is not her masterpiece, she did far better songs!
@@MagnusVonBenzomg shut up
@@direfranchement MacArthur Park, absolutely.
Giorgio knew a hit when he heard it. He wasn't going to let it slip through his fingers. Donna and Giorgio captured the spirit of the 70s. Genius. This song sounds great today. It was meant to be.
We owe Giorgio for synthesizing that 17 minute version back in 1975 outdoing Pink Floyd at the time in creating a 17 minute total interesting much better classic. Boo on Donna Summer not being proud of her input to that 17 minute version, I guess we owe you Giorgio then!
This must be Giorgio Moroder. I remember buying his record called Son Of My Father in the early 70's when I was a teenager. Later he did Blonde's Call Me & Midnight Express as well as I Feel Love by Donna.
@lawrencejelsma8118 don't boo her. She just didn't want all the negative energy that came from it. That's not wrong. It was getting dangerous for her
So true
I knew this story, and it's funny, but in general I wish to say: Thank You Donna, for all the emotions you gave us, for your wonderful voice, and for your inner beauty, even greater than your outer beauty. Also thanks to Giorgio, who composed amazing musics for her. A winning couple! Greetings from Italy (where she's still loved and missed)!
Wonderful voice singer and compositor the music Donna SUMMER inolvidable forever great diva
Ciao, Mario...thank you for the beautiful words. So many of us here in the USA loved her and miss her, too.
Wonderful and resonating words, dear Mario-of-Rustica, that to this very day we are feeling in all the different corners of the world.
How ironic she's still loved so much in Italy and was also married to an Italian American man!
I still can't believe she's gone. When I heard the news about her death, it stopped me dead in my tracks.....definitelty gone too soon at such a young age. Listening to her husband talk about her passing.....you could tell how much he loved her and how broken he was! So heartbreaking to hear the pain he was dealing with.
Long live the Queen of Disco! Missing you!😘
It must have been shocks for her to find out that the song was already made, and out, and a big hit. And she didn't know.
Hope she got her money for WRITING the song
I hope she got taken care of all the way around!
she actually had to sue Casablanca in the late seventies cause she wasn't making any money of the song, while the song continued to make loads and loads of money.
Obviously she won and got the rights to it.
Playing it on the radio without her knowledge and moving it around behind her back the way Giorgio did was kind of a shitty thing to do. It's a great song and we all love it and all but putting out that kind of persona really wasn't Donna's thing. I'm just glad it didn't ruin their collaboration.
@David S. Like so many other musical artists of this era, there will never be another Donna Summer. She was pure class.
@David S. well, it was Donna's idea and her lyrics... so it's more like Donna made him famous.
either way, they always worked as a team and they came up with everything together. there wouldn't be no Giorgio without Donna or a Donna without Giorgio (and pete and keith and juergen)
@David S. and range.
I get the feeling that she'd still look darnn good without all the makeup and lashes
She would be gone from us in about 3 years after this interview
And the wig.. but yeah a real treasure for human kind
Great story! I love Donna Summer! This is funny because, I have seen Donna in concert twice. In one of her concerts she did a few sets wearing the white Marilyn Monroe dress. You know the famous scene where she’s standing over the subway grate and her dress blows up. Donna wore this dress for part of her concert. She has such a great powerful voice. She sounds amazing live! I think her vocal abilities were very underrated.
She wears that dress on the back cover of her 1976 album "Four Seasons of Love"
"Church girl," in her words. A "church girl" recorded the greatest musical ode to the female Big O- ever. Let that sink in!
Right! And did it so convincingly that for years people used to claim that she actually got off in the studio 😂 a pretty silly urban legend but we were all so credulous in those pre-internet days
Most powerful Black singers started in the church
@@Heyu7her3…truth be told…
Church girls have sex too. That’s how they make more church girls.

I saw her live in London.... just an absolutely stunning astounding voice. Effortless. I will treasure that memory. The Queen of Disco... and soooooo much more. RIP Queen ❤❤❤❤❤
I think it’s really cool that a woman that looks like me did ALL of these great things with an Italian genius. They really took this era and actually understood it more than others imo. Most Disco records are very vapid and surface level. Their collabs have SOOO MUCH EMOTION AND FEELING.
They really do, but I hate that he didn’t really do right by her. Even in this story, selling the song without giving her a contract or publishing or anything… and based on the other stories she’s told it sounds like he didn’t treat her like an equal.
@@JC-yy8iv trust me, I know. Im only speaking on the art for arts sake.
Music industry sucks HARD.
Thank you Donna Summer for the music..you are a Legend
The dear Donna is exactly what her name means in Spanish ... she is a 'lady'.
Dona is italian. Doña is spanish.
@@borispotosme2068 Is kinda the same meaning…
Full name is LaDonna
No doubt this is the sexiest song ever recorded.
All I see is Kelly Rowland lol.
Omg I had no idea she had such a strong Boston accent. I love it, it has so much character
Yep I just commented this too lol
It's so funny hearing this. I CANNOT imagine ANYONE ELSE singing that song!!! The falsetto was SO perfect, lustrous!! I had purchased the original vinyl LP but unfortunately lost it in a hurricane....;-(!!!
Today's date is February 1st 2021 I'm 59 years old I was in my kitchen making some coffee at 7:30 a.m. out of the sky blue I start singing Love to Love You Baby ain't thought about that song since the 70s so I came on UA-cam and said let me put that song down in my music log
You and I are about the same age. Listening to this interview is both funny and slightly painful. I know that ANY music you want these days is available on CD or download. However, this was one of the first albums I bought when I was in HS. Back then I used to think I could be a talent scout for when I heard this album I felt Donna Summer was going to be HUGE!!! I marveled at how she was able to sing a very realistic falsetto ( which is how she sang this song among others) and also belt with her "big" voice. I remember some of the other tracks sounded somewhat like Country ( a song with "Pandora's Box" in the lyric comes to mind). The sadness is because this vinyl LP I purchased years ago among others was lost during the hurricanes of 2017. It had been sitting at my mother's house all these years. She had collaborated with this Giorgio Moroder on a LOT of her music. I remember the name very well. It's funny. She was probably living her life in Germany and probably had no immediate intentions of returning to America. Fate had other plans!!
Beautiful woman, icon, wonderful voice and personality. I will always remember you.
Love to love you baby was one the greatest songs with Donna Summers singing it.
Donna was beautiful inside and out. RIP Donna
The song ended up shadowing Donna’s actual identity. She spent decades trying to break out of the sexy “character” American’s perceived her to be. She was so much more multidimensional than Love To Love You
I think MacArthur’s Park a few years later is the song that proved to everyone how great of a singer she was. It definitely changed my mother’s impression of her!
She was it ! In the seventies and eighties ,just magnificent singer we could listen to her all day long and not get tired of her amazing voice and sexy stile and on top of it all she was beautiful ! RIP fabulous Donna we miss you !
This totally makes sense because she often acted like a goofball. Regardless, Giorgio knew that was it and went with it, and so did Donna. They succeeded bigly.
Watched some of the HBO Documentary because of the “sexual” content which is mild in comparison to what we see & hear today, it aired at midnight, after about an hour I had to force myself to turn it off & get some sleep for work the next day it was so good. I was amazed by how groundbreaking she was in her career. She changed the sound of music by being the first to use a techno sound & she was the first black female Artist to have a video shown on MTV. I love Donna❣️
I love Donna Summer, miss her so much
Good story. I wish they would make a movie about the late Donna Summer. Some have suggested Kelly Rowland for the part, and that would be fine.
This is how it all started, as Donna spread her wings and enchanted the whole world ❤️😘😍🙏
I'm glad Giorgio Moroder worked with Donna Summer.
She was such a Legend, that will not be forgotten
Donna was SOOOO Underrated as a Vocalist!!!! My 1st Album, that I ever bought was " Bad Girls "...Brilliant!!! xoxoxoxoo
I disagree that Donna was underrated. She was very much celebrated and also awarded by the Grammys for her vocal performance in R&B, Pop, Rock, Dance and Gospel. That was highly unusual to have so many multi-genre acknowledgements.
True artist. I've never heard her speak, I had to look up her birthplace because I could hear her accent lol. It's Massachusetts in case you were wondering 😄. Looking forward to her documentary.
What a legend may heaven always welcome her !!!❤❤❤❤❤❤
She seems to have a conflicted relationship with the song
To Donna summer; a true artist whose music and inspiration will continue even after THIS generation. Thank you for the great music and the sexy groove of the 70's because you knew how to rock it. LOL. R.I.P.
Gorgeous and elegant from inside out ! simply amazing !
I remember that song from when I was a kid. Now in my late fifties I enjoy this making love music
Few, if any have the flair, class, and professionalism in their performances as she did.
Queen, goddess, perfection. So glad I got to see her live before she passed. I Feel Love is the greatest song ever recorded. I think this song is considered the first 12" single.

I lived in the Boston neighborhood Donna grew up in. Always a humble star. RIP Ms Summers

Hearing this story makes it pretty clear. Giorgio, said okay Donna Summer, I will exploit you for your own good. Like it or not, this record is going to be released. You can thank me, or sue me later.😅
She was so "different" and theatrically "unique." I grew more and more appreciative of her work, and after her BIG voice "break out" LAST DANCE it was over! I was "hooked."
A fellow Bostonian. I Love her. She was So Beautiful, Sexy too. RIP Donna. 🥀.
A Gift that we all can be thankful for. Absolutely one of the greats!!!!
If you listened you know Donna remained great after the 70's.

I love ❤️ Donna Summer !
I wonder if she speaks German?
She did speak German. I’ve seen interviews where she has spoken it fluently.
Donna plays real innocent - but listening to the song and the vocals - if she did the oohs and aaahs those are not the sounds of an innocent intention 🤣🤣🤣
It’s such a gift to be able to watch this video of THE LEGEND, Ms. Donna Summer!
She is a phenomenal singer but an incredibly fascinating person. I thoroughly admire her
Great interview with a lovely, but powerful singer. R.I.P. Ms. Donna Summer.
Notice how Miss Donna says at 3:11 "strike that" she is cancelling out a previous bad spirit word. Miss Summer knew the power of good and its contrast in words.
Until I saw this, I never realized how sensual it is. As in a experience that is cerebral. I only listened to it as a pop song. It's so...atmospheric. Donna Summer is forever in my heart.
very interesting and beautiful Donna interview ... as she admits here , for singing and moaning ,(in that new unusual way for her) ,sexy on ''Love to love you baby'' she needed an example ,a character ...which was not only Marylin ...apparently that happens to be singer Asha Puthli...and probably when Donna says that she suggested Giorgio to give it to someone else ,and that there were around a couple of really sexy singers who could do it, again i suppose she refers to beautiful and clever Asha...
Disco Legend forever here in the Earth and now in the Heaven.😘
This fine lady had a voice that could calm the monsters in my dreams. I hated disco with a passion but absolutely loved Donna Summer. So classy and elegant. The world would have not been as good a place without her. Still love ya, baby.
Why did you hate disco?
Why? Because it was Blck and LGBT music.
Because probably a white rocker who can’t dance !
@@squarebear619 thats usually the reason.....but they never say that. And apparently they did like disco if he liked Donna Summer she was Disco! if you liked/like donna summer music you like Disco period!

I would love to see Kelly Rowland play her in a movie about her life
That is a crazy story and kind of shady by people she supposedly trusted, to be honest.
Just think if she hadn’t went with it all the years we could have missed out on hearing her work mainstream. ❤
I love you Donna wherever you are, you should be among us because we love your music and your powerful voice, many kisses from here to heaven
I'm British and at the time the record came out I was working as cabin crew, flying regularly to New York. Her hit is iconic ... and, like the Bee Gee's hits encapsulates the fantastic feeling of the 1970s. What a lovely person she is, and what a great talent.
Donna, I love you and your music! Namaste 😊
