  • In 1977, NASA launched two small spacecraft called Voyager 1 and Voyager 2. Weighing only 800 kgs each, they collected a wealth of scientific data and thousands of photographs of the four giant planets in our Solar System.
After visiting Jupiter and Saturn, Voyager 1's trajectory left the ecliptic plane in order to photograph Saturn's moon Titan. This meant that Voyager 1 would not visit any other planets. However, Voyager 2 continued on to visit Uranus and Neptune. Still today, Voyager 2 is the only spacecraft to have visited these two "ice giants" and their moons.
This music is dedicated to the two Voyager spacecraft and to the people who made them possible.

Thank you! I am actually working on a new version of Voyager (the music) for the 10 year anniversary of this video. No promises though as it depends on how well it turns out in the end. Who knows? Maybe in a thousand years or more, humanity has discovered a much faster way of travelling through spacetime.
Maybe then we'll go out there and retrieve them. :-)
Most realistically though, they'll go on for millions and millions of years until one day when they happen to collide with some object somewhere in our galaxy.
But look at it this way: the Voyager probes were created to fly in space, not to sit in a museum. They ARE at home where they are now. ;-)

The lead sound is a Radias sound that I programmed from scratch. That also goes for the lead sound during the Saturn theme.
The main arpeggio sound (the one starting at 00:29) however, is from the M3, although it is from the Radias expansion card in the M3.
So there's a lot of Korg Radas action going on in this song. But some sounds (especially most of the percussion, bass and background tracks) are M3. And everything is recorded into and controlled from the M3's sequencer.

I hope voyager 1 and 2 make their way somewhere that will give us further knowledge about the outer parts of our solar system. Although it may be unlikely around the year 2025 when all operations must shut down due to the lack of power to keep any instrument running.
At only 420 watts of power, it is unbelievable at how much information was gathered from the two aerospace vehicles. I would say that these two vehicles is what made space exploration more popular and improved space research in many different ways. An incredible milestone indeed!
