    I have known his piano sonata since high school and recently Argerich played the dances but never did I know this man is the RAVEL of the PAMPAS !!! The most seductive , careful and insightful and subtle ear I have come across .Why are his orchestral works not played more often they are contemporary without bothering the listener and the essence is instantly beguiling .I hope dudamel and others will right this wrong .What gorgeous scores are Pananbi and ESTANCIA ! Ginastera is a MASTER ! My friend says the Harp concerto is necessary nadnEmerson ,Lake and Palmer knew the piano concerto .How is it these works are not on the radio more ?

      +John e martin III Ginastera is a composer of the Pampas just as Brooklynite Aaron Copeland was a composer of the American Great Plains, i.e. on the cutting edge of modern music. His oeuvre is enormous and the later works are shattering--2 piano concertos, 3 operas, cello and violin concertos, more. Now in the centennial year we have to hear more than just Estancia and early folkloric pieces!

      Talent, yes. A bold synthesis for a young composer, very redolent of Szymanowski and Ravel. You might be interested to compare this Op.1 with that of Jón Leifs, his Trilogia Piccola. It was recorded on an album with the tone poem Geysir, which has very slight affinities with Panambí's introduction, imho. Greetings.

    Regarding this piece's similarity to aspects of the Rite of Spring. It's almost a pity that Stravinsky created such an unmatchable mega-composition because the music world would've benefitted from some more of that ultramodern stone age voodoo . I suspect that even the great Igor (without a doubt one of my favorite composers) was cowed by his blindingly brilliant monster forever doomed to live in its shadow . Regardless Ginastera Brilliant Composer

    Amazing work for a 21 year old composer. He pretty much had "it" right from the beginning, although I'm sorry to say I really don't like were he ultimately ended up musically in the second half of his composing career. Just my opinion on that.

    • @zgart
      @zgart 3 роки тому

      I personally believe the later ginastera works were definitely his best. Have you listened to his 2nd cello concerto or the 2nd piano concerto? Mind blowing works

    • @christophermacintyre5890
      @christophermacintyre5890 3 роки тому

      @@zgart Of his later works, the Cello Sonata, Guitar Sonata and 2nd Piano Concerto are still fairly listenable, but he went off the deep end pretty hard. To be fair, he was a pretty hard-edged composer from the start, but he went even further than he works you mentioned... and not in a good way, in my opinion.

    • @zgart
      @zgart 3 роки тому

      @@christophermacintyre5890 in my opinion I think he definitely went in the right direction, I feel that he wrote enough works in his early idiom (that were masterpieces such as panambi and estancia), and that his expansion into newer styles incorporated with his already masterful orchestration (I am so in love with his use of percussion) as well as Argentinian folk ideas is transcendental

    • @christophermacintyre5890
      @christophermacintyre5890 3 роки тому

      @@zgart Stravinsky went in a similar direction, although his late works don't irritate me to the same extent that Ginastera (at his most extreme, which wasn't always) seems to do. Ginastera was 34 years younger than Stravinsky, so I suppose it's not that he wrote a lot more works in that style. Still, there is no excuse for anyone to dismiss Ginastera even if they don't like his late works. He was incredibly precocious and fairly prolific so there is simply too much music for anyone to ignore regardless of their opinion of his later work.
