- How We Converted An AMBULANCE Into A TINY HOME For Under $5K USD | BUDGET VAN BUILD COST BREAKDOWN
How much did our DIY van build cost? In this video, we're breaking down the cost of building a camper van out of an old ambulance. We have been living in our van conversion since 2020 and are here with a cost breakdown of our DIY low budget tiny home on wheels. I know van life on social media can be confusing - with some people having expensive van builds and than others like us with a small budget for our self-made van conversion.

➤ ABOUT US: Hi! We’re Nick & Raychel, the couple behind the blog Not Luxe - where we write travel guides & help people open their eyes to alternative living, whether that be teaching English online, moving to Cambodia, taking advantage of working holiday visas (like in Australia) or building a DIY stealthy camper van to live & work on the road. Right now, we’re living the van life and travelling safely in our own backyard of British Columbia in Canada.
Our goal here is to bring you weekly content where we hope to inspire you to break free & live the life you desire. On Wednesdays, we talk everything from finances to minimalism to working online to mindset and on Saturdays, we post a weekly vlog of our daily lives. We hope you join us on our journey to see the world, save money, live minimally, and most importantly, have fun.
Love,
That couple that lives in an ambulance
Thanks for watching! You definitely don't need $50k to start van life - and although our build isn't perfect, we love it because it's our home! Would you live in something like this?
Absolutely, your ambulance is beautiful!! Thanks for breaking it down. Where did you get the ambulance?
@@Ekinnajay Thank you for watching! We got ours from BC Cargo Vans (his name is Stan) in Maple Ridge, BC. He got it directly from a government auction, though!
You guys documented your expenses SO WELL! Thanks for this video!
Thanks friends!
It would be great to see more of the van rather than all the marketing.
This video was a van cost breakdown, not a tour - you can see our tour here from 2020: ua-cam.com/video/uzq5qSuTaA8/v-deo.html or this tour that Tiny Home Tours did of our van: ua-cam.com/video/lb50j-rDkCE/v-deo.html ... lots of videos on our channel as well :) over 200!! thanks for watching!
Y’all are inspiring, showing those who are money conscious that they can still have a stunning build without selling your kidneys 💛
And we just adore you and all of the relatable work that you do ❤️ PS id give you my kidney for free
It all add up and it adds up quickly.
👍
Exactly!
Great build. You both are amazing.
Thanks so much!
Thanks
Looks like a very nice build. What do you use for heat?
Thank you. We have one heater that only runs on shoreline power, and one heater that runs off of coolant - and then just a small propane heater. We try to escape winter though.
very nice. Great job.... thanks for the tour.
Thank you for watching 🙏
yo. dude! ths is epic picture~ have a good day, 👍
Year of ambulance?
2011
Flooring for free from a family friend . That’s a lot of Fs🤣
It was a mouthful for sure 😅
Nice build and breakdown! You didn't mention a heater, did you put a diesel heater in?
Thanks so much! We don’t and that’s a huge regret. We have one heater that runs off of coolant that isn’t connected and then another heater that only works when we’re plugged into shoreline power. Surviving a Canadian winter last year in this thing was terrible, and we took housesitting opportunities to make it bearable. This year we drove down to Arizona for the winter to get away.
@@nickandraychel that's my dream, To just follow the seasons. I'm kinda laughing because idk why you didn't just move down south the moment the winter gets bitter in the first place.
