If I have boxes that have writing or graphics on that doesn't look good or can't be shipped just cut the box on one side to open it up and turn it inside out then just tape it back up, the graphics are then on the inside and can't be seen
I do that too
I cover mine in butchers paper i get for free
That’s a very good idea!! Why I never think of that? Thanks for the tip!!
Another great video! I source my boxes from around town or boxes from things I’ve ordered myself. What I do is make sure to say that I do this in all of my listings. I put “ * We use recycled and repurposed shipping materials * “ In the almost 3 years I’ve been selling on eBay it’s never been an issue. I think some people prefer to know they’re supporting sustainable shipping too! 🙌🏼
Save yourself time by printing the medium tracked envelope address from the dymo connect program on pc. Simply go to purchase postage labels on your eBay orders list and over the right hand side where is has “deliver to” copy the address. Then sort out your label size in dymo connect and paste it directly onto the label. If you have a labelwriter 4XL you can fit 4 addresses on one sheet. Cut them up and stick them on the envelope. Should save you time and will look far more professional.
Hi Matt. I noticed you are using medium flat rate satchels. I was using for a while, but discovered if you switch out the medium satchel for a small Australia Post padded flat rate satchel, it is around the same size as a medium satchel bag. I buy in boxes of 100 at $0.86 each. The cost is around $0.60 more for the satchel, but you can post up to 5kg at the small satchel rate instead of the medium rate. This may not work for you, but it has saved me heaps over the last year. Thanks for the videos! Tanya
Awesome Vid Mate. I had held off of Intenational Shipping, not certain how the cutoms declarations work but now realise how simple it is. Now in the process of updating my games and DVDs to Intenational and will work on the rest as I list new items! Thanks so much for such great content. You're an inspiration!😀
I was given auspost sticky labels that I can put into my printer! they work a charm
I send alot of shirts, shorts, tshirts, books and comics in the tracked envelopes (as long as they aren't thicker than 20mm or heavier than 500grams it works) saves a lot on postage that way too, great work on the Video Matt you put in a lot of work well done! :-)
You can buy DVD mailer boxes in bulk on eBay shipped from Aus suppliers (actual boxes under 20mm thickness), these provide better protection and less chance of case arriving cracked. I've used them for DVDs, games, CDs and other slightly more fragile but very thin items that would require backing cardboard if goin in an envelope or satchel. Sometimes you need to cut the internal flaps to get a case to fit flat and under 20mm.
Very helpful video Matt - EBay allows you to print address labels for your orders - you fit 3 per label (plus 3x return addresses). Couple cuts and you're good to stick them on the envelopes. Will save you a heap of time. Also "down grading" to the 4xl dymo printer from the 5xl was the best decision - saves so much money by allowing you to use off brand labels at a hugely discounted rate.
hard to come by 4XLs these days. I bought the brother ql-1100. You can use third party labels for that.
Most informative/ educational video yet Matt! Awesome stuff thank you! Heaps of new knowledge gained from this one. Reminded me of your earlier ones you did! More like this legend!
I've been doing a lot of the same things following your previous videos. I found a Dyno Label Writer 450 at Good Sammy's. I print a stack of return address labels. Saves me having to write this on the envelopes.
Hey Matt I picked up a roll of the black pallet wrap from bunnings. Its pretty good for wrapping boxes etc (thing giant cling wrap) Keeps it water proof and or covers and labels etc. I dont use it for everything bit its 22$ for 280m !!! Also good for wrapping consoles etc together for safe shipping.
I just do my labels via printer in black & white only - saves money on buying colour ink! I don't sell enough to warrant a Dymo yet.
Also, it's easier (saves extra packaging), and you can fit more in the small padded satchels from Aus Post- they're bigger than the standard small satchels.
I do this currently and found a use for the leftover contact I had instead of using tape over the paper
Thanks Matt! Another great video mate. Helped a lot. I have a question for you. I am just starting out on ebay selling very small electronic components. I am shipping to major cities only at the moment until I can figure this shipping stuff out. They can all fit in a small envelope. I have a mypost business account but I can't find envelopes on there? What is the cheapest way to send small items in envelopes etc? Or is that just done with standard small envelopes? I have a shipment that is tiny and needs to go to tassy from Melbourne. The mypost business on tier 2 is going to cost over $10. Which is crazy. The item is only worth $5. Any advice would be great. Thanks.
Do you use a DYMO 4XL printer or a labelwriter450? I see you use these in your video and is the 4XL better as it is a wider label maker for Aus Post labels?
I have the 5XL prints labels perfectly
@@TheAussieFlipper thanks heaps.
I got onto auspost straight away when I started on ebay. Also tried the dymo label printer but it was faulty, got a replacement and labels got stuck in it all the time. So, I paid extra and got myself a brother ql 1100 and this was a much better piece of equipment. Even the fact that it cuts your labels for you and not needing to rip them off like the dymo was great.
But, everyone get on mypost. It's pretty good 👍
I got the brother too. I noticed Newell Brands (Dymo) stock price has been tanking since they mandated RFID label stationery.
how did I not know about scanning the QR code on the envelope before! I am not even a newbie and I didn't register to do this in my brain. Thanks so much for that tip! Learn something new everyday :)
I love this function
I’m the same until I saw Courtney scanned the QR code in one of the previous videos!!!
I once wrote the wrong last few digits and I have no way to track it. I don’t want to go to the buyer and ask if they have received it. 😜
I put my items in cello bag with a thankyou note - extra protection especially with the wet weather. some of you smaller clothing items should fit in the large tracked envelope within the limit of 500gms and 20ml thickness. Cheers Di
Great video! Do you ever have issues with DVDs or games being damaged sending it in the tracked envelope? I send my more expensive games in these but I usually wrap them in 1 layer of bubble wrap but its time-consuming.
I wrap my DVDs in thinner protection, not sure what it’s called but it’s white and doesn’t add to the thickness plus I put in a clear plastic sealed bag in case it gets wet.
Having a laugh at some of the comments Matt! From day 1 I added a self printed thank you & request for feedback literally saying 'help me restart my ebay business'. They work so well that 10 months down the track I am yet to change them. Some months I get 70% feedback, always over 50% & really nice comments too. I finally went back up to band three last week so happy about that.
how did you get so close to the actual Auspost price for selling overseas, does ebay calculate those prices for you ? or were you guessing the amount before listing the product ?
Hi mate I always thought the domestic packages (the green ones)which you sent the dvds in were only for literally letters only? So, for example, can I send a wrapped up phone in those ?
Great video Matt. I have business size thank you cards made by Vistaprint. I have my own wording front and back and they cost around 10c each. They look professional and it's a nice touch. Also you can purchase through eBay A4 size boxes that are 16mm wide and would fit your magazines, no need for cardboard. I put my items in a sealed cellophane bag, in case of water getting in. They cost around 80c each... You send as a letter if you want tracking you can purchase tracking stickers from aust post to attach to the box....kim
Great video - How do you then assess how much you charge the buyer for postage when posting an item for sale on eBay?
Hey mate if u ask at ur local post office you go to they might have the Aus post label paper for normal printer. They normally give it out for free. Then it’s sticky paper and it made for 4 labels so u don’t need to cut it out.
I have a Dymo 4XL I picked up at a garage sale but haven't purchased shipping labels for them... They seem very expensive! Where do you source yours? At the moment I am using 4 up sticky labels on an A4 sheet from Officeworks and it works very well.
4XL you can use off brand labels - 5XL you have to use branded labels so good purchase. See the comment below from Aussie Bay Flips - he has a 4XL
4xl labels are at office works. I use a brother ql 1100. A bit more expensive but Better machines I find. Each to there own. But, office works sell all these machines plus labels.
I haven't read all the comments so it may have been mentioned, but if I don't use the flat rate satchel's I use the Tough Bags instead of the padded mailers ... these are cheaper! The small is the same size as a medium flat rate satchel too but cheaper! :)
Great video I just joined up my business Australia Post and they gave me a band 3 for three months it's a deal they have going then after three months it depends on how many parcels you are sending a month to either stay on band three or move up or move down to a band one or two if there is a two the post office set the whole thing up for me on my phone they were great so everyone check if they have the deal still going .
Amazing advice here Kate!! I hope people are reading!
@@TheAussieFlipper -I had the same experience. Band 3 for 3 months when I first joined ( about 4 weeks ago) . It definately helps with postage cost : )
I did the same, some PO have a poster on the wall.
Awesome video mate! very informative and helpful! How would you send books?
i just received an older laptop (heavier than new ones) from an interstate seller who packaged it as you did the board game and it arrived perfectly fine. (probably had 1cm or more thickness in all sides/corners at a minimum). I'm usually sending stuff way over packed through fear of having issues in the post, as in the past I've received damaged items and especially the "do not bend" item that was deliberately bent (last bendable item i packed like your comic and didn't state do not bend for this reason, it was a head gasket for a car which cannot be bent without destroying it). just spotted selling DVDs in the suggested videos, so off to watch that next(i asked last week if you had tips on cleaning/detailing them)
Pretty comprehensive video on posting ebay orders.
We put the up to 3 x comics into the large green tracked card envelope.
We're using up our satchels so as to just use padded mailers as the time savings and extra size means big savings, ie: we can fit a large coffee table book inside the small padded mailer vs needing a medium satchel so a $3 saving there.
Got to remember the 14% ebay fee on top of your $25 quoted postage international post so really $23 actual cost + packaging + ebay fees $3.50 so about $27 in this instance to the UK
Hi Matt! Thanks for the great video, actually coming back here to brush up on some things. One question - for international postage, with the CN23 label - is there any label printer that can print it? Or do you just print them out on normal A4 paper and stick them on?
Normal A4 does the job!
@@TheAussieFlipper Thanks Matt!
Thanks mate very informative and something to think about going forward if things really take off like yourself.. Keep up the good work Matty cheers 👍🍻
Awesome and informative video as always mate! Really like the format
The toughest part is sourcing and staying within your niche for me. Shipping only gets frustrating finding the right size box and keeping within the original estimate. Also, I rarely ever use envelopes or bubble mailers for anything. Too much risk for damage.
Consider envelopes. I’ve used them literally thousands of times without a damage issue!
Thanks for the video Matt. One the most valuable information. You're inspirational to the whole community. Cheers
Another great helpful video, I just use small and medium prepaid hand written Satchels as it's easier and simple for me at the moment with limited sales. Will definitely be looking into mypost and some of your packing set ups in the future. Thank you
Here in the UK even if postage is tracked it's up to the ebay seller to chase up. They have to refund the buyer out of pocket first and the seller deals with lost post unfortunately.
Hi Matt quick question how much does it cost when you buy 10 Australia Post Domestic Letter with Tracking. Thanks
cracking vid champion. some great postage tips in here!!!
Thanks so much darrin! Preciate you man!
Hey Matt excellent video I always add a package slip to order with a note on feedback with every order even DVD’s in the Aust post envelopes. 👍👍👍🇦🇺
Hi Matt, another great video here!
Can you please advise that if it is worth to move all my shipping to Australia Post as I’m currently using both Sendle & Aust Post.
For Sendle it costs me $7.65 for small satchel metro interstate, where as Aust Post will cost $9.70.
What do you think? Should I switch all my shipping to Aust Post and try to get to higher band saving or using both?
Thanks!
I havent used Sendle before i compare / advise here hopefully someone reading the comments can help with your decision but I'm very happy with the Band 5 discount Aus Post provides + I personally don't often have items go missing and if I do I dont have to handle it due to the tracking details provided. Works for me. Good luck!
@@TheAussieFlipper I use both Sendle and Aussie Post and both the costs can vary depending on the destinations. Sometimes you save a few dollars on using Sendle and then again it's the other way around with Aussie Post. I like to use Sendle with large heavy boxes as they are not always taken at Australia Post (plus you can have them picked up from your House at no extra cost).
I’ve used sendle twice for bulky items and would not recommend or use them ever again. Try to contact their service team first before you use them and see if you get assistance. I didn’t even get a phone number from them to call them it was my buyer who had it. The parcels kept getting moved around they say they delivered when they weren’t. Just try ringing them before you make your choice. They may have improved since…I have used pack and send when I purchased a heavy sewing machine, they were more expensive than Aussie post but my buyer lived in qld and was reluctant to post the item. Pack and send picked up the item and did the packing as part of the deal. Only recommend this if you really want an item and the person won’t send it makes it easier for them.
@@Thomas-1967-AUS Hi Thomas, yes, I’m using Sendle for the same reason, saves a dollar or two depending on the location and they pick up the parcels right in front of the door.
May I ask which band are you at with Aust Post?
Because of splitting the postage between Aust Post and Sendle, I can’t even reach band 3 for Aust Post, so I’m thinking should I switch all the parcels to Aust Post or not, but again, if I can reach certain level, the band will drops, so not sure what to do. TIA 😊
@@jodiegrace2849 Hi Jodie, yes I agree that Sendle is hard to get reach to, all the communication is going through emails, which is really a pain.
The reasons I’m using Sendle are, 1. they are cheaper depending on the location, 2. They pick up the parcels right in front of the house. 3. Most locations get delivered quicker than Aust Post.
Yeah I paused the film I was watching to watch this.
I learnt that you can't send anything in a dangerous goods box. Good to know. I normally turn any labelled boxes inside out because some buyers in the past thought I wrongly sent them the item pictured on the box.
You said you write your letter labels by hand. I'm curious why you don't use the printer to print letter labels? Once you set up a template it's just a matter of copy paste. Save time.
i usually use the dymo for my sender details but using the printer atm i revert back to hand writing.
Can you do a video on using the templates kafen I’d be interested
Thanks a million for this video! Great Job. I'm moving there in Jan and need to know all this as I will be starting an eBay store.
There is a huge difference in the way we do it here in the US.
Quick question i have a 4XL Dymo printer will that work for the labels i need over there or is it just the 5XL?
I tried the 4xl when I started a couple years back. Found the brother ql 1100 a better machine. Each to there own though.
Hey Matt, great video as always, I do the free box thing too! it just makes sense :D I have a question for you that I havent heard you talk about, I know you love your DVDs, but I see you skip the BluRays? Are blu rays not profitable? I've had success at picking up some 4K films and selling them on, but would love to know your view on the related media in the DVD category. Many thanks! Fari
How do you know what postage cost to put on your international listings ?
Hey Matt, I was just wondering how do you ship your caps and hats. I would really appreciate your advice on how I could do it. Keep up the good work! 👍
Always a box to protect the brim
@@TheAussieFlipper Thank you!
Hi Matt I am confused on the postage for the small Australia satchel. The postage cost was $7.76 but the cost of the bag needs to then be added?
Pre bought for roughly 15c each
@@TheAussieFlipper Thanks Matt
Great Video Matt, have learnt alot from this video that I will be using moving forward thankyou.
Any clothes that I can make quite skinny I will post in a untracked prepaid envelope.
I fold them as flat as I can, place in a ziplock bag, roll the bag to get the air out and seal then put it into the prepaid envelope and post. I include in my description that the postage is without tracking however if they do wish to have tracking I can adjust the postage cost.
Hi matt just a quick question iv just started using this method of shipping my items..can you tell me does the customer's address come up on the label because mine hasn't.
Just wondering if this is normal.
Thanks
Get yourself those labels for the Dymo. It's ok if you only have one or two parcels but 10+ you're wasting time cutting then taping the labels to the packages. You could sell that dymo get yourself s thermal printer that uses generic labels much cheaper in the long run. Interesting way of sending that DVD with the bubble wrap on the outside, I received a board game once wrapped only in bubble wrap I wasn't sure whether I was annoyed or pleasantly surprised by their ingenuity. 😮😂Anyway enjoyable and informative video as always. 👍
Just be careful selecting gift with your international orders - I think it's illegal for businesses to do that. I have a business where I sell goods (and do ebay on the side) and it's my understanding that one must select "Sale of goods" as opposed to selecting "gift" - as a business. Yes they will have to pay taxes on the other end if an item is a certain dollar amount but usually the customer who is purchasing internationally knows that.
I screamed 'are you out of your mind?' to my screen though when you packed that dvd set in only paper and bubble wrap. Maybe Australians process mail carrying each box like a waiter in a 5 star restaurant from beginning to end? Bit hard to believe though. Put a couple of boxes on top of it and it still will get crushed unless its an extremely hard box, corners still can get dented while it rolls over sorting belts and being thrown around in trucks. It really needs a box to take that sort of pressure and damage. Not great advertisement for yourself I'd say, but keep up the nice videos though :)
Probably fulfilled 50 orders like this over 2 years and I’m yet to have an issue upon delivery, I’ve watched your UPS handlers in America (guessing you’re from the states??) and those handlers are aweful!
@@TheAussieFlipper no but I do ship worldwide and most of it to the US and indeed wouldn't risk it. Nice that in Australia they never end up crushed, maybe they put small packages in crates or so from beginning to end?
I've heard (from another Aus flipper) that the letters and parcels are handled separately, so there shouldn't be too many chances for a 5kg box to be dropped on a DVD.
@@trisroger my mum was told for parcels Aussie post can throw them legally 5 metres! Any workers that can verify that so I pack my parcels so this will be ok. Good to know the letters are separate. Why are they saying no one sends letters as dvd sales are doing well….
Did you initially get sponsored by an aus post branch to jump levels when you first started? My local branch wants to sponsor me but I'm a little hesistant.Cheers!
I did that first and it saved me heaps I got boosted up to band 3 from band 1 so definitely get onto it
recycled packaging is totally fine - I declare in my listings "clean recycled packaging used when available" as to dangerous good barcodes - simply mark a double line with a black sharpie through it, job done
Hey Matt quick question how are you getting a discount on your orders in my post. Thanks
Volume of sales sets you at a discount rate on the my post business structure. Jump online and read up or speak to your local post office
@@TheAussieFlipper ok thanks I will look into this 👍
Great informative video Matt learnt some tips and tricks and i also like how your doing donations for Movember
To use the small / medium satchel drop down option in auspost business, does it have to be a auspost branded satchel ? or can it be a clean skin 👍🏻/
It has to be Australia posts satchels. It has to have small or medium written on the outside. Any other kind would need to be weighed and measured. I use officeworks ones some times. Same price but easier to just use Australia post.
Did you wrap your single DVD and games in any bubble wrap before putting in the envelopes? Seems risky. No problems with damage during shipping?
Over 1000 orders and not 1 issue! No bubble wrap method just put er in
I remember I used to be so scared to sell online because of shipping missed out on good money !
Bro how do you not have a tape gun, changed my life when shipping out orders!
Tape guns dislike me best thing that changed my life was purchasing the double tape dispenser which golds the large packing tape and the small normal tape. I have bought smaller mini blue ones from Bunnings which are easy to use. Also I have just recently discovered at national storage they have a great selection of packing materials which are cheaper than Bunnings their bubble wrap is $2.5O a metre but it’s the height of me 150cm. They have the wrap around plastic too.
How do you fill in the customs form shipping to EU regarding the Ebay IOSS number? I can't find information anywhere. I believe if you don't add it the customer is charged tax again.
I love your channel Matt. I'm not a reseller but have learnt a lot about the Aust Post system. Is it essential to write the full details of the item inside? What if someone has bought an item as a gift for someone else who might see the label. Is there a way of writing a generic description?
It is not necessary to write the product description (actually says optional) I personally write a shorthand that I recognise and match it up with the same code i write on the package. Eg his commonwealth pants, I would put CMW or Common and then stick the label over my code on the package.
@@stephenmoore297 I do this too, I’m scared it would make it easier for thieves to see what’s inside so prefer to leave it cryptic but I still understand it.
Great info here and cause. Already subbed and supporting no matter what! Thank you Matt
I set my printer on Grayscale to save colour ink 🙂
super smart move!
Can you use Cheap knockoff labels on the 5xl? I know you can on the 4xl i get 1000 labels for like $30
Do you buy these on eBay? I have the same model. Thanks 😊
No you can't unfortunately with 5xl you have to buy Dymo.
@@whatkellyfound I do buy these on ebay 😁
@@bax6958 oh damn, yeah I didn't think you could. Thanks
Postage and handling charges here in Canada are insane! Definitely the worst part about reselling here. Even small packages cost roughly $21-$26 (CDN) no matter where you ship to. Buying postage through ebay for Canada Post (our National postal service) does save like 7% of fees. Unless an item can be mailed as letter mail (games fortunately work for this), it's insane how much postage costs here. Unless the item is worth like $45-$50 minimum, it's not even worth selling the item a lot of times. I sold a small xbox accessory which was a little too thick to be considered letter mail, cost me almost all my profit to ship. I ended up only making like $4 on an item that was sold for $30 because postage cost me well over $20. DVD's and games are the only small ticket items worth selling on ebay for me.
Surprised you don't use a tape dispenser. Great video. Very informative.
Thank you so much for the donation! So incredibly kind ❤️
@@TheAussieFlipper I value your input and your kindness in helping others Matt. Men need care more than ever these days and so often they are not heard. Happy to contribute.
Rather than charge a flat rate for international postage, if you do it by weight you can make sure you are covered for full postage costs (plus usually mske extra money on it).
Hi Matt, I have a question re shipping. My local post office keeps asking me for some kind of Aus Post code so that they can get a discount from shipping my items. Do you know what this is or where I could find it?
Thanks

You can get the Australia Post app and you will find your QR code in the app.
@@JC-eh2lb once you find the QR code from the app save it to your wallet so you can just open the wallet for them to scan it
I have been packing and posting for a long time including glassware and ceramics and haven't had a breakage yet (hope I haven't jinxed myself!) and use all the envelopes etc in bundles, so for once I won't be here until the end :( The toughest part for me is finding good enough items to sell - it's tough out here in the country :)
Do you always charge shipping or do free shipping?
Free always
How do you put two DVDS in a tracked envelope? I've tried and they slip around and if they end up on top of each other they will be too thick?
A clear bag will help I get mine from Daiso
Hey Matt, love your channel. When you list do you do free postage on ebay.
I do, always
Love this video! ❤❤❤
Looking like Ebay has taken away my ability to specify aust post satchels boxes and instead forcing me to use ebay labels , any thoughts on this ? Good channel btw , cheers
Check your dimensions sometimes if the dimensions are there I don’t get the option of a small satchel. I just have to reduce everything to 5cm (not the real size of the item) and the small option reappears. The Australia post my business gives you the option of using boxes which are the Australia post ones. Hope this helps
@@jodiegrace2849 must have been a glitch , it's magically resolved itself now, there are still some minor idiosyncrasies though such as dimensions as you say , :-)
@@phantomsledger357 glad that it’s fixed. I use my app to do listings and find its easier to use the I don’t know the dimensions tab too much quicker. I have a print out of all the different prices I just fill this on.

A sticky tape gun is life changing man, Highly recommend, They are under $10
why are you hand writing postage details for your envelopes, copy and paste from order on to preset dymo label format, print and stick. You've obviously had an Aus post a/c for some time for small satchel post to only cost you around $7. I'm still stuck on band 3 paying $8 to $9.15
and Aus Post have changed their banding, it's not about the number of items sent but the dollar value spent, need to to check some of the info your sending out
Make sure you buy satchels at post office rather than online just found out online doesn’t count towards band but at post office it does
Hey Matt, I noticed you don't have a tape gun, buy yourself a good tape gun and it'll be the best investment you make, I found a great quality one at my tip shop for $1

If you're not making money with Matt's advice you're not working hard enough.
Use your label printer and at least get a tape gun!!! Save so much time. I laughed when I saw you with the tape in your hands.
First Time Watcher of your videos, but taken back by the unorthodox method of your shipping. By selling online you're the first representation of not just yourself as a business, but of eBay as well. (of whatever other platforms you may be selling on) Sending parcels with someone's prior shipping information shouldn't be visible to new customers, I suggest as well that all shipments should be tracked to avoid any further complications in the future instead of using stamps. Customers can say they haven't received their package and without tracking confirmation you'd have to refund their money. In regards to your Dymo Thermal Printer, my question is the Dymo Bluetooth accessible? I just recently purchased the Beeprt BY-480-BT Thermal Printer $119-$129 US which is extremely lower priced and is Bluetooth assessable as well. Dymo takes only Dymo 4 by 6 sticky labels, not like the Beeprt BY-480-BT which takes any standard 4 by 6 roll or folded sticky labels. I don't require any PC and run the thermal printer off an app and can print labels using a cellphone or tablet. Just some suggestions that I do and might help you improve your business and how others .. and I also bought Thank You Cards off eBay and stick one in every package that I ship feedback is definitely always needed. Good Luck and Happy eBaying!
I personally don’t think it’s unorthodox 😬
