The pink chiffon actually brought tears to my eyes, It’s unbelievable. I can almost feel how gorgeous the original owner was in this gown. She was a baddie forsure
it would be amazing to see this on someone and it moving around. But I understand that it can't happen :(
@@asilverfoxintasmania9940 We could... If someone studied it and replicates it? Hoping Nikki is going to take up the challenge and show us 😁
I would love to see this reproduced. All that beading though. That would be a labour of love. Have to say that that hint of soft pink just made the dress. It was so gorgeous.
“That’s why after the teens were over they were just like: LETS MAKE A SACK” had me rolling on the floor lol
Pro tip: watch series at Flixzone. Me and my gf have been using them for watching loads of movies recently.
Me, a Titanic nerd and historical fashion nerd: *sees the thumbnail and literally chokes on tea with excitement* I've never clicked so fast in my life.
Same, im on my lunch break at work (aka my nap time lol) and opted to watch this instead
Your genuine excitement is so contagious. And everyone needs friends like this!
Nicole is one of the more incredible friends I could ever have, I genuinely don't deserve her.
“Jack Dawson I’m ready for you!!” 😂😂😂
As a titanic nerd I just DIED laughing!
I assume there's like an hour of b-roll of Abby just going "OMG I CAN'T EVEN" for like an hour. Beautiful dress, amazing find!
The first 5 minutes are just verbal “zoomies” and I am HERE for it!
Abby, your enthusiasm is just such a joy to watch 🥰
Alternate title: Watch me fangirl over a gown for almost 20 minutes. (you're adorable)
LOL - (also hope your pets are sensitive to squealing voices cause...it's gonna get crazy in 3..2..1..) 😂😂😂
But that would be the title for a lot of the videos Abby does! :)
My daughter who doesn't really care about fashion history still enjoyed it because Abby's excitement was palatable.
@@AbbyCox Yeah, my service dog thought I was dying for a hot minute there.
I am HERE for Nicole guest starring as often as she feels like it. I feel like you two chatting brings out such cool history knowledge from you both. :)
Me: Has almost no experience making any sort of wearable clothing...
*watches video*
Me: It’s time to make a dress and live out the dreams of my childhood Titanic obsession!
We could all use a Nicole in our life! Barely functioning due to excitement and needing a second pair of hands? Just call your Nicole! There she is with a second pair of hands and a wealth of information in a moment flat. What a great pal!
also with the most expressive face which adds a whole other level of humor to the video if you watch it and ONLY watch her 😂😂
All the best antics start with...."are you busy?" And only a really good friend says "no" first rather than "why?"

If your friend does sew a version of this, I would love to see a video on it.
I am french and I am not sure how to pronounce Coquenhem either. It seems to be from Lorraine and was earlier spelled "Coguenheim" which makes much more sense. I'm not sure how the parisians of last century butchered it...
I would go with something like "Koken hem" myself, probably not how they pronounced it, but it's a french mispronounciation of a germanic name anyway...
French viewer here also ;) I second your deductions about that company. I found this other dress but earlier design on the MAD (Museum of Decorative Arts ) website: collections.lesartsdecoratifs.fr/skinwebsearch?f[0]=f_creation:Coguenhem+%26+Cie . Might be useful for Abby :)
I believe you are correct in this. I worked at the Bath Museum and was taught to pronounce it 'Kokenhem' with the same rhythm as you'd say 'Go Get'em'. If it was originally 'Kogenhem' that would make complete sense for the changes in accent.
Had to pause and give this MY FULL UNDIVIDED ATTENTION because I am always down for Titanic-related anything. Love that Nicole is summoned like a Ghostbuster to help with the precious.
This is the most accurate way to describe her. I’ve just summoned her now acutally... literally...she just walked in and the dogs are freaking out
"Oh, 11 year old me is dying right now."
I felt that right there. Same! 💝
It's gorgeous, Abby!
Alternative title: Abby joy-gasming and nerding out for 20 minutes.
Best way to spend a Sunday. Nerding out over beautiful clothes!
A) The outtakes are amazing! B) Holy Cannoli, BatAbby!!! That dress is just...my brain fails to conjure a word that can adequately describe its wondrous nature. That’s a whole lot of words to say, “l’m speechless,” no? Wow! The fact that you’re trying to find it a home in a museum is exactly why I just adore you. Thank you for sharing it with us.
I’ve been obsessed with the Titanic since 1982. On the 70th anniversary of its sinking, April 15, 1982, my class (2nd grade) went out to the field and measured out the length of the Titanic...my poor little 7 year old brain was incapable of understanding how something so big could be lost. I also had no grasp of how huge the ocean really is. I started learning everything I could! When they found it three years later, I was glued to the TV. I can’t count how many times I watched James Cameron’s movie, not so much for Jack and Rose, but because he literally built a 3/4 Titanic right down to the china and the silverware, using (mostly) the companies who built her originally. The 1890’s through the late 19 teens is my favorite time period. My great-grandparents were getting married and starting their families, and I heard the stories from my grandparents. I love seeing their childhood memories brought to life. I just jumped to the $10 tier... I can’t wait to see more!!
OMMGGGGG that's amazing!!! I would have love to have been alive (born 86) and conscious enough to watch that happen...so cool! I also love all things Titanic era - the exhibits are always so fascinating, how much they've pulled up from the wreckage, people's stories...fascinating history
I was living in Southampton when the Titanic film came out. They vamped up the Titanic museum and seeing the personal objects , including letters sent to loved ones before the disaster, of regular people, especially the staff/crew had me in tears. I love the glamour, but it is always haunted a bit with what I saw that day.
Lady Mary would kill Lady Edith to own this dress!
And while they are fighting over it Lady Sybil would slip it on.
I absolutely love Abby's energy so much, and also i really like that everytime she comes up in a video she's not afraid to brag about her skills, it's not even bragging she Is That Good™
Seeing you both - who are so knowledgeable about vintage garments - so impressed and excited, made me excited too. The fun is contagious and, Abby, you’re completely adorable when you unbox beautimous things❣️ Edited to add.... You’re adorable on all of your vids. 😄
Me: I should finally sit down and edit that video

I’m at the size I need to look more at Kathy Bates’ dress but OMG that one is incredible!
Omg. It matches my measurements. I have never wanted to try on a dress more in my life 😂❤️
Matches my 17 yr olds too and yes, I did look at her and imagine her in it
"I bought something I probably shouldn't own." I don't know why this had me laughing my ass off. But it did. Ha!
Oh Abby it's a shame you couldn't show more enthusiasm. Seriously I just love when you get excited about unboxing. Nice to see Nicole make a guest appearance. Can't wait to see what's in store for next week.
everything Abby is saying in incoherent about the dress I'm saying about her blouse. And I'm totally digging Nicole's "Space Cowboy" look.
I had to turn down the volume for this in case people thought I was looking at... Other things
Lmao the intro had me rolling of laughter. My mom looked at me from afar and looked so confused 😂😂
I'm just here for Abby's excitement. The clothing is extra 😂
Also I can't imagine what your husband's reaction to hearing this when you filmed
My mother used to do that kind of work .. .beading on fabric for the church. I cry when I think what probably happened to all her glorious work. It is absolutely magnificent labor to do and demanding I learned only a little.
Me, reading thumbnail: "I bought a Titanic" I clicked so hard, gave my thumb whiplash!
Can we please show appreciation for Nicole's shirt? I usually don't like a buttondown shirt and I can't get enough of this!
I cannot WAIT for the delicious details post. Those sleeve pleats...I usually don't like pleats. But those are so LOVELY!
Also your speechless, high register honest to goodness squeals of excitement have cleared my skin, watered my crops, and generally made my day
She might get another one once I get a mannequin that small. I really hate that she just had to be laid out on a table. She's so stunning and I want to see how the weight of the skirt hangs and then I want to scream and fan girl all over it again and cry a little bit about how precious she is.
When you asked "Where's Jack" I could only think "There was room on that door!"
There was room, but there wasn’t enough buoyancy, which was the actual issue. Which, as Lindsay Ellis points out, is beside the point. The narrative needs him to sacrifice his spot on the door for her, and so he does. Though there was a cut scene in which another passenger wants to get on with Rose, and Jack prevents him, saying that it won’t float with two people on it. So there was an explanation (whether that holds up to actual physics or not) within the story for why Rose was the only one on the door.
This video was glorious. I know absolutely nothing about garment construction, but seeing you guys fangirl over this gown and showing us is just.. amazing!
Keep up the great work! (I also looove the editing btw!)
"I've opened up the baby" a sentence that just gets all the wrong thoughts when it is out of context xD
I think this is my favourite so far. I really loved Abby's minutes of speechless awe of the gown. Thanks for bringing Nicole in on it. Her practical awe of 'The Precious' was just the right touch of humor. I hope you recreate it. BTW did you know that Les Arts Décoratifs own à 1898 mint green dress from the same Maison. It with Countess Elisabeth Greffuhle Soinard day dress are TDF.
I love your unboxings! You're awesome! On side note my family was very wealthy and or aristocratic in Eastern Europe. My maternal grandfather's family three weeks before cancelled their trip on the Titanic because his found out she was pregnant with his brother at 49. My grandfather would have 4 years old if he had been on it as a first class passenger. All my great-grandparents owned haute couture clothing from Paris (my mother's paternal grandmother in a Worth gown with a huge hat, she was 6'1"). Even my maternal grandparents did. A lot of my maternal grandmother's clothing was donated to museums. When she came to Canada in 1931 [she was a first class passenger; and yes her boat almost hit an iceberg (and we have the picture of the of this on the deck) and it was a White Star Line ship,The SS Megantic (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SS_Megantic) on it's last crossing in May 1931(she arrived on May 25, 1931 in Quebec] , her and her father made a three month stop for her traveling trousseau. Labels included: Chanel and Lavin. She told me of the experience being fitting in the fashion salons (never had this experience). My maternal grandparents were both born in the Edwardian Era and dressed by their servants before coming to Canada. My maternal grandfather came to Canada (most aristocratic were lost by the end of WWII) in 1950. He flew British Airways because he hated boats.
As a French, you are forgiven. Even me and friends have a discussion on how to pronounce the final "m". But it's the "co" of co*k , "gu" like the "g" in game, "en" like the letter "n" (maybe the french prononciation for 1) "h" is silent and "em" like the letter "m" or like the 1 in my language. One day, i wan't to make a video about how the french-imported words in sewing activities are pronounce here ^^'
Watching Abby just spaz, fangirl and have a meltdown over a new acquisition is litterally what I'm here for. She is so stinking adorable!
The beading and trim is divine. But your reactions made my day.
I loved seeing such a gorgeous and unique dress. I imagine it’s too fragile to wear (heaven forbid!!), but I think it’d be so cool to hire a designer someday and see if you could create an exact replica of this dress for wearing. I’d just die to see how it looks on someone.
Nobody noticed how radiant and beautiful Nicole looks with( almost ?) no makeup, as if naturally gorgeously blushed with the best peachy shade for her complexion and how gorgeous this lip and blush look on Abby? I love them and their wisdom and content they share it in ssssoo much ❤️❤️❤️
2:32 Abbys first dressgasm, for this episode.. ;)
Your delight over this dress is infectious and it made my Sunday.
You are a brave lady trying to pronounce that name on camera. it still took me a second to work out a French pronunciation because the name isn’t typical French. The gue gives a kind of swallowed guh sound (in English, rogue has maintained the sound from the French origin) and you break after vowels, rather than consonants like we do in English. I would go with Coguh-nem (long o, barely audible guh). Just in case you get another piece from this designer and need to say it on camera again...although your attempts were very entertaining :)
Gaaaaahhhhhdddd this is GORGEOUS!!! She looks so well cared for! Your excitement sounds like me in the music sections of antique bookstores 😂 Y’all obviously treat these dresses so well, it’s so cool to watch experts handle these majestic relics!
You could challenge each other to remake this? Maybe that would motivate you. Or make it for each other. I usually make it a) better and b) more willingly to others. I honestly enjoy it more when making stuff for others rather than myself
I am SO impressed that all that heavy beading didn't shred the chiffon!
And how strange it is that so many (presumably) black threads fade to brown. Brown threads in this video, brown threads in Bernadette's mantle video, and brown threads on two extant beaded black things I have too.
Truly colorfast black dye has always been really hard to achieve. Even now, sometimes modern clothes will fade to brown. Probably the biggest thing with the threads on this dress is that they are likely different fibers from the fashion fabric, and would have needed different dyes than the silks.
This is amazing! I enjoy your unboxing, I learn so much about historical sewing! Feels like I’m in the room with you! Thanks for sharing! Definitely keep us posted if this gorgeous gown gets a new home in a museum!!

You geeking out was too much! I loved it ❤️

And oh boy do I have Titanic dreams! That first afternoon outfit is still my favourite movie or tv costume of all time. And the truly amazing editing and the shot itself does play into that, but even without the grand reveal, it would still be my favourite. It’s also perfectly historically accurate, because that exact afternoon suit was in a fashion plate earlier that year. The attention to detail on Titanic costumes was out of this world. I wish all movies could be so lovingly costumed.
My goodness, this gown gave me heart flutters! I’m so amazed at how intact it is!
First, your guest star is a fun addition to your episode and really interesting to hear you both discuss the garment together! I also thought the, I need to phone a friend scene is too relatable. That could be a super cute occasional way to add to the channel. We all relate to that on a daily almost, or maybe that’s just me. 😊Second, for those of us who are less familiar with the styles of eras gone by and how this particular garment actually looks worn. (The examples you add in certainly help to illustrate that!) To get your best estimation and vision of what this particular garment might have looked in its glory and how it could have been styled with hair and accessories would be mind blowing. Recreating this beauty sounds like it is not for the reasonably sane person to attempt so an artistic rendering that could illustrate “her” as worn and accessorized for those of us desiring to see it like I’m sure you do in your head. I haven’t read through all comments or explored the patreon(sp?) platform so my apologies if this has been addressed previously. Love your channel and think you are fabulous. Thank you for sharing your talents with us and keep doing what your doing because it is good stuff.
You're reactions were how I wanted to react while in my internships dealing with historical dress lol
I love how excited you get over a dress. Please never hide that excitement .
I am 100% here for a Nicole/Abby series in which we see this dress recreated. 100%
Ok I never realized how much I love old clothes until your channel! I wish I had the absolute knowledge you and Nicole have!! I'm feeling envious ha ha. How lovely you share this with us!!!
I don't care what mood you are in when you start an Abbey video...you are laughing and smiling when you finish! Such passion! You are so inspiring!!
It should be in a museum, but your enthusiasm is both amusing and understandable.
The close-ups but like UGH, like SIS, actually amazing. The beading, like wow and ribbon AAAAAHHHH!
I get like this over historical things and other stuff I love. Its nice to see someone else who loves historical aspects so much. You should have someone recreate it so you can see it on someone. That would be awesome.
Your channel is the reason that I've started getting into historical clothing and older-timey looks. I think they're FASCINATING because they all have SUCH a story of both the time they were worn/made and the people who wore them~!
Please do all unboxing videos together in the future - fantastic.
The dress is GORGEOUS! I'm just curious how this dress will be stored, since it is so perfect and old). Will it be in an temperature and humidity controlled room? Should this be in a museum, since it's so perfect? Can "normal" people do it justice with caring for it in the correct way? I'm just wondering if it wouldn't be safer to live it's life in an museum...
She's beautiful, and it's soo amazing that all of the beading has survived

Omigosh I totally understand your awe, Abby. I'm right there with you. This is my favorite era for fashion.
this is a treasure trove, the gold baseball card of 1909 fashion, because it's condition is rare to find. treasure it with pride. :)
I'm just thinking..shouldn't it be in a museum then? I hope it's stored temperature and humidity controlled room 😬
I am a bridal seamstress and I find it fascinating how you can see the return of old techniques like the ones used to support this gown in the new dresses. Yes they are modified but their intent and purpose is the same. I know I went to using waist stas as soon as strapless came back in with a vengeance! The weighted hems kept the light fabrics from puffing out like horsehair hems make them puff more. I would seriously enjoy copying this gown as a bridal dress. Can you imagine that beadwork done in iridescent silver lined beads and pearls? I can. Would be a wow bridal gown for sure!
Oh my Loooord, that gown is the definition of elegance! The BEADING!! THE CHIFFON!!! Your enthusiasm and excitement is so precious!

Abby, you're hilarious! Nice to see you friend Nicole, too. And if your mother is still helping with comment, "Hi, Mom!" ❤❤❤
This old goth is never tired of all black. This is The Perfect Dress and I can't thank you enough for sharing it!
This is a lovely gown. You're so lucky to be able to own it.
The beading reminds me of my grandmother's wedding gown.
It was made in 1920 and it was less fitted than this and entirely hand made by my grandma and her mother in pale peach cotton with some matching silk ribbon trim (common working folk here) and fully beaded in intricate art-deco patterns with peach and brown glass and brass beads and included beaded fringe at the cap sleeves and hem. - -Sort of a modest "flapper dress". It was not lined and needed a chemise under it, but my grandma had since "used up" the original chemise. It weighed a literal ton! I only saw it once in the 1980's when I was a kid. It was beautiful and I wish I had it.
Grandma had dug it out because the original wedding venue was having an centennial and photos of the gown were taken for the local paper, along with a reprint of their wedding photos.
My grandma donated the dress to a museum later, but I don't know which one.
My Great-Grandma(who I knew well and she passed when I was 28 in 2006) was born in 1910 and was 2 when the Titanic went down. She had some of her oldest sisters clothing and it was always just beautiful!
Can’t wait for patterns from these. Want the jacket that Nicole made. Gorgeous.
Your happiness makes me happy
This being my favourite era for dresses, I am in Heaven. Thank you 🥰
I have found... MY PEOPLE... ladies shamelessly nerding out over historic design (though I lean heavily towards historic furniture and architecture... oh and cosmetics... still textiles connect us at the soul)!
Watching this... I can feel nothing but joy and wonder. Sorry *ahem* a little dramatic, but I think you get me.
Edit: nerding is a word!
*Looks around house* Nah, I think we're bonded on historic furniture, too!
No one says "geeking out" your way? Or has "nerding" replaced that?🤔
@@kanashiiookami6537 they probably do! I won't claim to be a reliable source for slang terms. I've often had to look things up on urban dictionary to understand what people are talking about. 😄
@@MsSavvy9 ditto on the looking things up part, but I got a feeling me and my friends end up creating our own slang some times. So it's insane when a year or so later we hear someone from somewhere else start using it. 😂 (almost feels like we started something when that happens)
I have a fragile dress from my great grandmothers trousseau from her wedding in 1905. We had more but my mother gave them to a local museum back in the 1980s, which may or may not still have them. It has real strands of what look to be copper running through it. I think it is wonderful that you are "saving" all these wonderful things.
I almost cried watching this. It’s just too beautiful. And to see your excitement. Thank you (and Nicole) for sharing this with us.
All that jet!!!!
Thank you for making this experience available for so many people and for making this art relatable even for us who just passed by by coincidence and got hooked.

Not the first time I’ve confused people with my noises 😂 “Is it porn or antique clothing unboxing?” Should probably be my channel’s subtitle 😂
ha--he wasn't wrong! XD
My boyfriend also shot me a very concerned look 😆
Not surprised, what with some of the noises Abby makes, plus her comments about needing to 'get inside'.
I will admit that I have an inner Beavis-n-Butthead, and it doesn't take much for my dirty mind to slide right into the gutter.
Ditto! I’ll try watching again later but had to shut it off
