    At 6:00 there's a great question about the prize money being top heavy, and an even better answer from Barry.
    He's absolutely bang on the money as usual.
    Work hard, get the reward.
    Expecting millions of pounds for just showing face is no good for any sport.
    - "Sport has gotta be tough because that's what creates superstars and superstars have a lifestyle that others will aspire to... and if you take that away, you end up with mediocrity all the way through"
    - "Sport is for winners. It's not just for people to turn up, otherwise everybody would be doing it. It's about the elite taking the rewards"
    It's like crap a few years ago with the gold medal for all children who took part in sports day, regardless of how well they did.
    There's no incentive to actually do your best, or to win.

    It's pretty much exactly what we are already used to hearing from Hearn. With the first 5 mins, the "I" and "Im" words used enough to tell you the chock hold the Matchroom Cartel has had on the game. The grassroot game is almost dead in the UK. The next race will be between the Arabs and the Asians. India, Pak, and China, which is almost 2.5 billion in population and potential viewership, but the Hearns choice is the Arabs as the money will be there today. The covid success is just nonsense, Covid was a blessing for TV viewership and benefitted snooker massively.

    • @binbashbuddy
      @binbashbuddy Рік тому +1

      Well money is king, charity has it's place but you have to be able to back the pot. If Arabs or the Chinese are willing to pump the money into it that's what supports the sport. There's a reason America was not where hockey and soccer was concentrated, there was no money playing either in America until only fairly recently. Now we have hockey and soccer across the nation and we're on the chart in those sports, I truly wish that would happen with snooker in these United States of America because I love snooker. I live in South Carolina, we have hockey teams now, the number of times you could ice skate down here in the 40+ years I've lived here was pretty much 0 until around 10 years ago, now there's HUGE (as DT would say) money in it. We aren't becoming the world center of hockey yet, but that's only because despite billions of American dollars in the sport there are billions more elsewhere. The only way you can change that is to either stop other nations from supporting the sport or outspend them, and neither of those are probably gonna happen.
      To be honest, I don't care where they play as long as the Crucible is forever held dear to snooker fans.

    Make Snooker more accessible to grassroots. Kids aren't playing snooker in the numbers needed. I run a group playing on a 9' table for older ppl; its less intimidating. You can get more tables in a space, make it cheaper. Get kids playing. Also 9 ball pool is a great entry into cue sports. Still think the sport is in great hands with Baz.
