- Framework no. 14, enriched by Ney flute virtuoso Amir Shahsar, is the latest psybient sensation from SplitBrain's 'Frameworks' series. This instrumental melds deep bass psychedelic beats with Arabic & North African essence for a transcultural auditory journey. As the second release from the forthcoming 'Frameworks' EP, this piece weaves SplitBrain's signature hypnotic frame drum with Shahsar's otherworldly Ney flute melodies into a transcendent tapestry of sound.

I didn't understand if it's a good comment or a bad one 😉
Really like your stuff, dude! Perhaps you can help me out. I'm looking for musicians who combine electronica with _actual human-played drums_ rather than nanosecond-precise Ableton drum tracks. I don't mean samples of, say, a taiko drum played on a Wavedrum, but real drums played by a human. Seems to me you might be one of them! Do you know of others? Might it even be its own subgenre? I'm interested in the neurological and energetic effects of real drums for trance inducement, you see, and haven't had much luck til stumbling upon you! Very glad I did. Thanks for the great music.
Hi there bro , Indeed real drums can definitely contribute to trance inducement :-) But I believe that electronic ones might do it too. It's the rhythm & the groove & the sound ( especially low frequencies ) that can trigger this trance inducement. As for your question about other musicians combining live acoustic drums in their creation that's an interesting point. I guess Highlight Tribe are doing this. I know that Tamir Muskat from Balkan Beat Box used to do it as well & he's a great drummer & producer - which is the perfect combination you might be looking for :-) If I'll have more examples I'll definitely share it with you 👍
@@Splitbrainmusic1 Thanks for the leads! I wasn't very clear in my original comment for reasons of brevity. I have no doubt electronic drums can induce trance because I've experienced it! But my interest is actually wider, being in what we could call the magical use of music. Magic, famously, is all about intention and attention, and I think it's legitimate to wonder if there's a "magico-spiritually functional" difference between the sustained intention+attention of playing a drum for 5-10 minutes versus working at a computer laying out beats on a timeline. I'm not disparaging the latter, nor underappreciating the time, effort, and talent it takes! But I do feel it's done with a different _type_ of intention+attention, meaning it has a different magical impact. The _process of creation_ using a computer seems to me to be an _abstract_ one, whereas it's very concrete when playing an instrument. Basically I'm interested in what's going on beyond the physical. That was a long yet possibly insufficient explanation, but I trust you get my drift.
@@halfacanuck Yeah...as someone who's very much into live-drumming nowadays I can definitely see your point. It's a VERY powerful experience. I can attest from personal experience. In fact many of my compositions & improvisations are trance like in nature & it always begins & stems out from my live drumming. The physical act is deeply intertwined with the spiritual & the sensual. Also PLAYING the drum is definitely much more immersive experience then playing a sample of the drum. No doubt. I can relate to that.
@@halfacanuck Nadav Dagon is also doing some LIVE drumming with electronics : www.youtube.com/@nadav_dagon
@@Splitbrainmusic1 The magician/shaman would say the energy you feel when drumming conducts to those listening (and theirs to you): that there's an energetic connection between performer (even if recorded and not live, if my experiments with reiki are representative) and audience which makes a very real difference to the experience, for both. I wonder if that connection can survive with Ableton and the analytical mind in between! For me the playing of trance music for an audience is a very shamanic act, and my experience doing (non-musical) shamanism compels me to take it seriously. Anyway, thanks again for the leads. Hilight Tribe definitely include live drums and even guitar in their sets, and play my kind of music; and I'm looking forward to checking out the others, and the rest of your drumming improv videos, because there's little more shamanic than that 💚
