Danny glad to hear the good news . Mango was one of the great guys at the landing in the 60/70. Never asked for anything but always had something.to give. Showed us a lot of places to fish and hunt and always had two boats to rent. All we had to do was walk with our outboards (20 Evinrude & 25 Johnson) to take us upriver.Things for the game was expensive in those days. He would remember me . Tell him the man who used to come with the guys who catches the aquarium fishes for export. Give him a $10 thousand G. and I will get it back to you here. Met your friend on Liberty Ave and left a couple of photos for you to check out. What a nice guy !!
Patiently waited and a fishing video finally makes it return, well yes. The sandbar you & friends settled on, is that the same sandbar you visited when you posted the Arowana fishing video ?
Danny I forget to tell you that there is a black Guyanese with a small shop just before the Bridge at the Landing on the right hand side with an Amerindian wife. I forget his name but he knows the River well. He was hunting and fishing there since my time. I am sure he is still alive. Can tell you a lot. He used to live in a train Carriage at the Landing in the 60's. In those years the water never came that high and there was a large Ramp to take your boats down.. Do you know that a train used to run from Mckenzie to the landing twice a week to transport workers and the expatriates Don't use the lakes when the water is too low as the fishes and wild meat has a different taste and smell. Happy fishing and make an application for a bandok. This will take you a far way. Toolsie's stone Quarry was on the right hand side up river and it used to be a small City at nights. There were huge spot lights and as you drive by, the river was lit up too. One can see it from Water guage.
Hi Danny, you working the new Boats and Engines. They sound very good. The story of Plane Bank is known by "Plane Bank Lake". There are two lakes on both sides - Plantain Lake next to Toolsie Persaud Quarry and another across the river. Toolsie Persaud did a great operation in the 60's thru the 80's then they closed shop. The Plane on the bank in the middle of the river was a C 47 Exmilitary gave to Guyana in the 50's.by the US Army. This was used to transport Gas, oil, food and people in the interior. Sometime in the the 60's while transporting 45 gallon drums of oil some where iin the interior the plane encountered Engine trouble, so what the pilot did was to dump all the drums overboard and touch down in front of Toolsie Persaud Quarry. Parts of the engine was removed and the oil being afloat was picked up by workers. In the 70's myself and gang used to Camp in and under the plane. We fished and hunt in both lakes which was full of fishes and wild meat. We got our ice from the Quarry and this allowed the catch to keep fresh. It was beautiful in those days. Any one time you can get two Large Freezers of fish and four or five Watrass (Capybara) with 17 Labba and a few pigs & deers when the water is down. Powis was all over the place. We really enjoyed ourselves in those days. That was the place of Arapaima but you coulnt catch them. During the nite you can hear them splashing around. They were huge One can fill the boat so we left them alone. The banning came up in the 70,s when the fish was caught out by locals. There are still a few left. Before water guage over the high ledge there is a lake at the back near to the river. Climb up and take some photos from the air and you would see the size of these monsters. The people at the landing knows where they are but they don't tell. There was an Indian guy living at water gauge then with three kids. We used to Camp there also. A big house with a lot of fruit trees. Bassah was by the hundreds all over the river. I love them when the croaking starts. Good fishing and enjoy you trips up river.. I will be watching.
Ardy: Glad to see Yu back on de trail again and wuking de boat too. Always learning more of de beauty and resources of Guyana on your adventures. However agree wid another fan concerned about contractors replenishing wat they are removing from the forest as a forum of progress! Guyana's natural environment must be guarded and treasured for future generations... Lessons to be learnt from problems of neighboring Brazil's Amazon and others. Blessup and big up too.
Sorry - The guy's name is "Mango" who is well known at Rockstone. He knows more than Huley and you will hear all about the trains and travels in the area. The little City at nights is Butacari and the other little town is Anarika - both owned by Toolsie Persaud but is no longer there. Used to have one of the largest Saw Mills, Shops, school, and a medical center. A small plane flew in his payrol and supplies every two weeks. Crossing there is Sherima which goes to Bartica and other parts of the Interior. Look at the Road and you will see how wide it is for the plane to land. History babe !!
Good news Mango is alive but not well he’s on wheel chair now I tried to find him but was unsuccessful he not living at the bridge any longer he moved but ill try to locate him on my next visit.
Danny thanks for the note. Tell fish pro he wore a shirt with colors that dazzled my eyes. That's to attract the lux. I want to tell you one more thing but can't do so on youtube.. Can you find out from the older folks why Toolsie Persaud closed operation. He was one of the wealthy person in those days. The Kabaka had something to do with it and many other good businessmen. Look how the Country is prospering,.with happy faces. We lost 30 years of frustration and poverty. Hope those days don't show its ugly head again. Keep on fishing bro, I enjoyed you and fish pro pulling up all those big ones. I once caught a male with 12 pounds infront of Lake Teperu between the rocks.on the left side with a spear. You should have been there to see the commotion he made with the sand and rocks to bring him out. I had to hold him down while my friend Vincent went overboard to grab him. Huley and Mango knows Vincent. Used to live at te landing with an Indian wife named Rosie.

Denny this was an entertaining as well as educational video. I am wondering if the logging industry replants new trees/saplings when they engage in tree removal? It stands to reason that they would for the future of their livelihood. Deforestation is one of the major results of climate change and the depletion of the oxygen supply to the nations. Thanks for taking us along with you and the Fish Pro family 👪
