The Cobra 148 GTL is the best radio I have ever owned. So easy to modify. For a 5 watt radio, I was lucky. Mine had been modified. Not used, but new from the factory. It produced 20 watts. I shot skip all around the US, and even reached Hawaii once. And that was with no Linier Amp too. Mine had extra channels too. This was one of the easiest radios to modify and I will never forget those days. Wish I could find another one like that. The day I left for the US Army, my neighbor broke into my van and stole all my stuff. He was later caught but I couldn't get out of the Military to claim my stolen items at the San Diego Police Department. It was enough for me to know that my neighbor actually did time because he broke into several cars. The Police executed a search warrant and my neighbors pursued his conviction. Anyway, long story short, I loved that radio. Best dam piece of equipment I ever had and back in the 80's it was highly sought after. Still is. Brother hold on to that one, it's dam near impossible to find one that is in such good shape. cheers!
These old radios, when found in mint condition, are just works of art !! I was lucky enough to grab up a in the box new and never been transmitted on President Washington . It's kinda like a time capsule really when you open it . Paid a premium for it, but it was worth it to have in the collection!😁
Yeah your right have paid some big money for mint unhacked radios grew up with radios when was 15 now 55 every time i see one i usually grab it just can not beat the old radios Cheers
