"In an interview with Insider tied to the 20th anniversary of the reality competition series, Johnson criticized his debut single, calling it a “cheesy piece of crap.” And he was right this song is bad
In my opinion, this is one of THE best winning singles in Idol history. Best winning single all time? Maybe not, I say “Home” by Phillip Phillips currently is. This is tailgating right behind it, though. Chart success or not, this is still a really great song. It’s certainly far better than any of the poppy sound alikes that would have been released otherwise.
+Dr. David M. Berman That's what I'm wondering, too. I just came here to listen to the song because I found out Justin Hawkins had written it. I don't have TV, but I DO listen to the radio. Until I heard this, I'd never even heard this man's name. He reminds me of a young Meatloaf! Dude needs to be marketed better because he can sing!
He isn't really a beloved winner of American Idol. Most would probably say he's one of the worst winners. Not necessarily because people think he isn't talented, but because of his personality. He caused some controversy during his time on the show with certain things in said in interviews and such. He also kinda dissed season 7 winner David Cook. And fans of David, like myself, weren't too happy about that.
Caleb Johnson is the best singer ever on Idol and the best singer on any reality competion show that was ever made on television. He has been consistint every week. But at the same time he should finished in second because the winner first album songs is by the idol producers and the idol producers always give crappy songs to the winner and that's why most of the winners are not successful because the idol producers. If I was singer on that show and I made it to the top 2 I will go off the producers and write my own song. Next year they should change it from winner's song to original song because to be a good singer you have to write your own songs.
Not true. Keanes lead singer, Tom Chaplin does not write his own music, but rather the band's backup singer Tim Rice-Oxley does. Even then, Chaplin is clearly the better singer of the two, and is able to carry emotion in a way Tim just can't. Boston's lead singer, Brad Delp, was not the composer. The bands founder, Tom Sholz, wrote the music. Again, same thing as with Keane. Singer's don't have to be a songwriter, and vice versa. It is fortunate if they are, but that doesn't mean one is better if they can do both.
Hmmm… he had lots of negative comments about this song and the idol record label…. And where is he? Singing karaoke in a casino somewhere…. Likely where he should be.
Lyrics: We were looking for love in all the same places Infected with the same disease In a room full of cats with handsome faces You couldn't find a moment to see I always wanted you to notice me, to notice me I guess that's just the way it goes I was looking for the answer when all the time it was right here under my nose For As Long as You Love Me You don't have to do the things I do As Long as You Love Me You don't always have to be so cruel As Long as You Love Me We don't have to be together 24/7 As Long as You Love Me I'm in heaven We were looking for love, hearts trailing in our wake Took any love that we could get Sure, it wasn't easy, but you know you gotta take your chance no matter who you upset Tell me, baby, did I pique your curiosity? I don't know if I disappoint You were looking for the answer when all the time it was right here under your nose But As Long as You Love Me You don't have to do the things I do As Long as You Love Me You don't always have to be so cruel As Long as You Love Me We don't have to be together 24/7 As Long as You Love Me I'm in heaven You will never have a reason to tell me that we're through I will never ask you not to do what you wanna do even if you never show me what I mean to you And As Long as You Love Me You don't have to do the things I do As Long as You Love Me You don't always have to be so cruel As Long as You Love Me We don't have to be together 24/7 As Long as You Love Me I'm in heaven As long as you love me I'm in heaven
I really like the lyrics to this song. This is how I feel when it comes to relationship. If a guy loves me, and shows me that, and tells me that, then that's all I need to be on cloud nine, and to feel and be happy in a relationship. I haven't watched "American Idol" in years. I didn't even watch the season where Caleb Johnson won "American Idol". But I will never understand why a music video for "As Long As You Love Me" wasn't filmed and released. Recent "American Idol" winners should have had music videos released to their AI crowning moment songs as part of the deal for winning AI. It would've been nice to see some live performance videos and a music video to this song, outside of the performances of this song on AI. Anyways, I just saw Caleb Johnson's new video for his new song from his album. It's good.
Just the title alone is a really stupid idea. Backstreet Boys dominate the search results. It never stood a chance becoming successful with that title! Secondly, the melody and music is mediocre and forgettable, it's not even good enough to be a B-side. Poor Caleb. With a great song, he could have been very successful. He has a right to be pissed.
I can see why he doesn’t like this song. It is all over the board. This is about five different songs crammed into one song. Whoever wrote it needs to learn the fundamentals of songwriting. True story. Not a criticism. A fact
This album isn't what Caleb wanted to make. Here's what Caleb had to say about the making of this album and this song in particular: ...it was really an eye opening and learning experience for a young artist. Especially a rock artist. If I'm being bluntly truly honest, they really weren't supportive of me, because of the genre I was in. A lot of the people behind the scenes were scratching their heads, "How did this rock dude make it this far? How did he win the show?" I'll never forget this, I was recording the single, which was this god-awful thing called, "As Long as You Love Me," no offense to this guy, because I'm a fan of his band and him, the song was just terrible. This guy Justin Hawkins, of The Darkness, had written this song, "As Long as You Love Me," and it was just a total cheese-ball fest. I took the lyrics to this A&R guy and said, "Do you think this is a good song?" And he looked me dead in the eyes, I'll never forget this, and he said, "Caleb, nobody writes rock songs anymore." That's what he told me, right before we're making the record. I thought, "Oh my god!" I felt like the rug had been pulled out from under me. It was a really bad process after that.
I love Caleb's voice, he definitely knows how to rock out, but this song is not nearly as good as the single for Jena. Based on the songs Jena should have won. Just hope they get way better songs for his album.
This is a good song but sounds very "cd label made" not very original compared to some of the stuff Caleb has written. Take me to the river is an awesome song he wrote before Idol.
Rock and roll is officially revived
It's not to bad I think he sang it well keep up the good work have a blessed day to all
"In an interview with Insider tied to the 20th anniversary of the reality competition series, Johnson criticized his debut single, calling it a “cheesy piece of crap.” And he was right this song is bad
This was written for him by The Darkness
American Idol Season 13 Winning Song
The video is not available in my country but i have watched and listen the other vid.
Just read an article saying Caleb hates this song and was forced to sing it by the producers.
This guy rocks the planet!!
I love how this was put up AFTER I bought it -__-

Angela ellis love caleb perry johnson
Awesome Backstreet Boys cover!
This guy is a great singer. I don't hear much about him though. I wonder why since he really is a huge vocal talent.
+Dr. David M. Berman That's what I'm wondering, too. I just came here to listen to the song because I found out Justin Hawkins had written it. I don't have TV, but I DO listen to the radio. That's because this debut song is awful and he's got the personality of a wet rag.

Adam Lambert and Chris Daughtry had better voices than Caleb.
Caleb Johnson is just one awesome rock and roll singer. =D
He is my favorite....Super Talented.
oops sorry wrong person.
Congratulations to American Idol 1987 Caleb Johnson!
I know, isn't it great?
That title sounds sort of familiar. Seems like they could've hooked him up with something a little more… Original
It sounds so 80s I love it though others don't
Written by Justin Hawkins (The Darkness)
This is a a great song! (Written by Justin Hawkings of The Darkness)
Caleb thinks it’s crap.

Justin Hawkins is the talent. The vocal is a punch-in-pitch-correct special.
Actually this is Caleb Johnson not Justin Hawkins
@@killerdude-hz2bb Yes, but Justin wrote it. The computer sung it, I think.
@@nobrakes3765 Actually this is Caleb Johnson's official single "As Long As You Love Me"
@@killerdude-hz2bb I guess you don't get it.
@@nobrakes3765 Lol, his name is actually Caleb Johnson not Justin Hawkin
you rock ever since Idol.....you have been my favorite of all time. Voice is incredible.
This song was actually written by Justin Hawkins from the Darkness - if you love it go check them out!
He is my favorite.....Super Talented.
Caleb....love to hear you sing! Never get tired of it. I hope you are enjoying great sucess. You so deserve it.
I'm old and I really adore this fella's singing!!
Hmmm… he had lots of negative comments about this song and the idol record label…. And where is he? Singing karaoke in a casino somewhere…. Likely where he should be.
this sounds great
I understand why he hates it.
Amazing caleb
Mon Caleb son premier single je l'adore...
Lyrics:
We were looking for love in all the same places
Infected with the same disease
In a room full of cats with handsome faces
You couldn't find a moment to see
I always wanted you to notice me, to notice me
I guess that's just the way it goes
I was looking for the answer when all the time it was right here under my nose
For As Long as You Love Me
You don't have to do the things I do
As Long as You Love Me
You don't always have to be so cruel
As Long as You Love Me
We don't have to be together 24/7
As Long as You Love Me
I'm in heaven
We were looking for love, hearts trailing in our wake
Took any love that we could get
Sure, it wasn't easy, but you know you gotta take your chance no matter who you upset
Tell me, baby, did I pique your curiosity?
I don't know if I disappoint
You were looking for the answer when all the time it was right here under your nose
But As Long as You Love Me
You don't have to do the things I do
As Long as You Love Me
You don't always have to be so cruel
As Long as You Love Me
We don't have to be together 24/7
As Long as You Love Me
I'm in heaven
You will never have a reason to tell me that we're through
I will never ask you not to do what you wanna do even if you never show me what I mean to you
And As Long as You Love Me
You don't have to do the things I do
As Long as You Love Me
You don't always have to be so cruel
As Long as You Love Me
We don't have to be together 24/7
As Long as You Love Me
I'm in heaven
As long as you love me
I'm in heaven
Awesome! Cant wait to hear more from this guy here in the UK :-D

They had Mark Haze from South Africa sing this song too. Both sound great but why isn't the promoters doing more to get these guys out
Just the title alone is a really stupid idea. Backstreet Boys dominate the search results. It never stood a chance becoming successful with that title!

he should have his First Music Video with that song
soo amazing! So proud of him! He deserved this! Love this song so much
I love him!!!!! So amazing!!!
I can see why he doesn’t like this song. It is all over the board. This is about five different songs crammed into one song. Whoever wrote it needs to learn the fundamentals of songwriting. True story. Not a criticism. A fact
can't believe Justin Hawkins from the Darkness wrote this song. They're a one hit wonder band for a reason I guess
Too bad the lyrics were so screwed up! I prefer Mark Haze's version even though Caleb had a great voice!
An answer to what can sound cheesier and more empty of real emotion than Nickleback. This song really is produced generic cookie cutter cheese.
Nickleback sounds like a breath of fresh air compared to this 😂
Caleb's right. He said this was utter crap. He's got a good voice, but this song is not good.
Wow awesome song Caleb wooohooo 😘😘😘👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
+Crystal Boven It's written by Justin Hawkins, who writes amazing songs. He's the lead singer for The Darkness.
Throw away pop music. Even he hates it.
I agree with him, this song is utter crap.
Fall out boy called, they want their shitty B side back...

I agree, Caleb…”utter crap” lol 😂
“just the worst song ever” "the song was just utter crap" "it was a nightmare"
- Caleb Johnson
This is okay, but if you want to hear a real Caleb Johnson Rock song, search for the title track from his debut album, 'Testify'.
Sorry they gave you this terrible son Caleb. Your vocals sound great.
a "cheesy piece of crap."
🤮
Sounds generic.
How is it Generic? It' sounds like something out of the 80's. I like it. It rocks! It should have 20 facebook shares.
Darnell Johnson No hook. Bland lyrics. Take all the arena rock songs of the early 80s and average them out and you'd get this.
Caleb is right. This song is a piece of crap.
This is horrible.
GARBAGE!!!!!!
This is horrible
