The Patria, not Patricia or something, was moored in the naval base of Flensburg, unable to leave port. The ship served as accomodation and offices. Other offices used by Dönitz and his administration were in the sport's-school on the premisses of the naval college. The main building of the college (the gothic-revival complex with the spire) was used a military hospital. And then there were tens of thousands of people who had fled from the Soviets and crowded the city.
Among the ships that had come from ports in the East was a transport with dead and mostly dying concentration camp inmates from Stuthof near Danzig. The nazi administration prevented their prisoners from being freed by the Allies by transporting or even marching them away from the advancing enemy troops. The death tolll was just shoking, tens of thousands died just a few days before the nazi tyranny was over.
Believing that the war was over and nothing could happen to them anymore, the crew of a small naval vessel that had ignored orders to safeguard transports across the Baltic from the Soviets but had waited in Danish waters till May 8th, was foolish enough to sail to Flensburg and moor at the naval base. Nothing would have happened to them if they had gone ashore on the other side of the harbour as this was under British control and not within that stretch of land ("Sonderbereich Mürwik", meaning excluded area, excluded from British command) from the naval base, the naval college, further inland to the naval shooting range, and along the coastline until Glücksburg-Castle where some of his group lived. Dönitz had them court-martialed and shot within that few days between May 8th/9th and the dissolution of his regime.

This video was very informative and funny. The editing is on par with some of the more famous history UA-cam channels. I was surprised to see that you only had 11 subscribers (before I subscribed).

My father was 12 years of age when all this happened in his town. He does not think it was funny.
