This wonderful woman was an honourary Australian. She knew when she was here she had an army of tough young men that would treat her as the Queen she was. Rugby League owed her a tremendous debt and every single person in our game would do anything we could to pay it back. She wanted nothing. She gained her most adoring fans right here. The was no Super League and forcing of players idea of Ruby League. At that time Rugby League was already considering expansion and with the clubs that existed in NSWRL.

Unbelievable best days of rugby league when Tina turner was apart of it .
Tina was truly spectacular. She lived life on her terms. Women half her age could not match her energy, talent, and physical fitness. She went from being abused by a pathetic, insecure weasel to living a life of luxury, fame, and strength with a man who truly loved her. RIP, Tina. Prayers for your husband, Erwin, and family 💔

I never knew of this performance. Her command of the entire stadium all by herself, with no band, no dancers, no background singers, and the audience singing right along with her, is just beyond incredible. And she's enjoying every second of it.
She owned that stage, that tiny little woman turned into a force of nature everytime she stood on a stage or held a microphone. She truly was, just simply the best! We lost one of a kind ❤

She may have had, during the big part, a track for support (band and voice support), considering this was a big fucking deal to get right with only one opportunity. But most of the performance was indeed live! :)

Didn't stop moving once. She's simply a brilliant show woman.
I was fortunate enough to see her live in concert once. And that was my thought exactly after leaving the concert. She never stopped on that stage. Her energy, charisma, and stage presence was like nothing I’ve ever seen before.
To watch this in this day and age, when so many singers won’t get near a stage without their background dancers, special effects and more, and yet there she stood, singing her heart out to crowd that absolutely loved it. She was a performer in every way, the Queen of Rock and Roll. God bless the performers like you, Tina, they’re one in a million.
well lip synced her heart out anyway lol but you're totally right, today performers have so many dancers & other effects & cameras choreographed to hide that they're lip syncing, Tina just did it solo, so props to her for that :)
Yeah she could have nailed that without lip syncing but still got the Sydney crowd going

I'm so sad that tina has passed away 😢 imagine how powerful this beautiful woman would have felt when everyone started singing along to her song that changed rugby. RIP 🙏🏼

This is how I remember Tina Turner. There was never a year after this where the NRL grand final entertainment could live up to this

@@d.lhudson3875 It's something make believe, like a unicorn for the comparatively infinitesimal number of people who follow rugby league predominantly in two states compared to AFL nationally. NRL never achieved any form of 'global' relevance and never will due to the limitations imposed by its provincial fan base but this ad campaign was undeniably a great success with such a star albeit one which was never capitalised upon.
There should be a push to make her an honorary Immortal. RIP beautiful lady 🙏
NRL, you have earned a special place in this American's heart for not just uploading this in FINE quality, but for recognizing and honoring and taking wonderful care of my lady Tina Turner. I am still weeping with loss and I came across this video - a copy of which I've watched so many times here on UA-cam. You make it so obvious in this video that you and Australia did enjoy this FINE gift that came out of Tennessee. Tina so many times said that America forgot their stars between hit albums, but I never did. And I shall never forget the NRL for loving her and paying this tribute to my precious Tina Turner. May she rest in peace.

It is visible in several moments. Like (4:33). Moreover, it is often done like this on similar occasions. Because sounding a huge stadium with good quality for one song is unnecessarily demanding and expensive. Moreover, only a music expert will notice it. yeh & the audio's actually pretty crappy for the video, such as the helicopter noise in the background at the start & song being lip synced, so I suspect the actual volume of the crowd was probably a lot stronger than the video shows & if this was a modern recording we'd probably be really blown away by the crowd volume singing along

I still get goosebumps watching this! I was 9 yo watching this game. As a Dragons fan, I didn't stop crying for days afterwards! But I remember how hyped I was watching Tina do her thing. After watching tonight's NRL and hearing them keep repeating that she's left a legacy behind all I could think of is what a shame we can't find anybody with the same electricity In their voice or that BIGGER than life stage presence. This occurs when you have an iconic voice and it’s just a backing track and just her voice. You can count the woman who can sing like this one one hand. Tuner Whitney Adele Rondstadt Nancy Wilson Sade!! It brought me to tears.
