    My chickens like to snack on my Yarrow when they escape their area. I have 2 barnyard bad girls who must have studied at the Houdini School of Escape. Laverne even comes into the house to lay an egg in my shower...lol

      This is great to know. I have so much growing wild so I can toss some in for eating.
      The girls are so funny! I have one that would (issue is now fixed because of foxes) scream at the back door until I let her in and she would have her egg in the carrier I keep out for my bunnies lol

      @kelleyleblanc5025 I give my excess Lemonbalm to my chickens as well. It's out in the front flower bed so I have to pick it for them. They love it and the Common Mallow & Lambsquarter when those two plants are young and tender.

      @@SassyQ1 good ideas!!! I don’t have the last two. This year I started planting plants in their coop and just put some chicken wire around them so they can’t dig up the plant but can munch the leaves that come through the wire. So far I have sage, peppermint, orange balm and nasturtiums!

    Hi April. I'm suffering from FPHL and my hair has become very thin on the top of my head. I've been extremely anemic and had an iron infusion recently. I started using rosemary essential oil and castor oil on my scalp but would prefer to use fresh rosemary. I'm hoping you could recommend a shelf stable spritz for hair growth and scalp. I know I could make tea daily but don't want to excessively prune my plants. I'm considering taking saw palmetto internally but would love to have some advice on other plants I could forage or grow that could help me as well, to keep costs down. For both external and internal use.

    • @sheisofthewoods
      @sheisofthewoods  6 місяців тому +5

      I would consider getting your vitamin C and copper levels checked because iron deficiency is actually more often than not a symptom of copper and or vitamin C deficiency.
      I would also just buy some dried rosemary and bulk. You could make the tea that way or you could make an infused oil that way without having to stress your plants.

    This is awesome!!!
    I know how much you love yarrow so I know you are the person to ask about this... I was researching about chamomile the other day because I love it so much but noticed when I opened the bulk bag I got recently it seemed like it bothered my lungs a little bit (granted I also was opening multiple bags of different herbs and maybe I inhaled some dust so who knows what it really could have been lol). So I was trying to see more info about the allergies with it and what not and I ended up going down a random rabbit hole of "if you're allergic to ragweed there's a whole list of plants you could possibly be allergic to." So then I continue on down the rabbit hole and I found a very weird and interesting statement LOL I was hoping maybe you knew some info about... (This does have to do with yarrow I promise lol) this article was talking about dandelion and how it is also related and "if you are allergic to ragweed, chrysanthemums, marigold, chamomile, yarrow, daisies, or iodine, you should avoid dandelion. Also it might increase stomach acid and heartburn."
    okay so a couple questions about this...
    1. Do you find that people that have reactions to these plants mostly is because they are around at the same time as ragweed and end up with its pollen on them, or is it actually because they are related and produce similar pollen? When I was looking into that part it got confusing with the sciency words I don't understand lol. (I know it can be either since everyone's body will react differently to allergies but I was curious if you noticed any pattern with that at all) I remember when I was growing up ragweed would mess me up super bad (everyone thought it was golden rod of course lol) and I have always wanted to understand more about if the plants that are related, like yarrow, also have similar aspects to them or if its just because they grow at the same time and get dusted with pollen from ragweed?
    2. Why is iodine in there? lol that one threw me off
    I had a bad allergic reaction to a plant a number of years ago and has since caused stupid fear over it happening again with plants I have not used yet in life.. which I'm trying to work through lol but understanding allergies more helps me to not worry as much I guess.
    So sorry this is so long and I know I always ask you a million questions. I appreciate you answering them it means a lot to me!

    • @sheisofthewoods
      @sheisofthewoods  6 місяців тому +1

      Heya, super simple answer and why I hate when people write super convoluted write up because all they needed to say is "People allergic to plants in the Asteraceae family (daisy) such as ragweed have the ability to be allergic to other plants in this genus (family)" then you'd be like ahh that makes sense!
      As far as feeling kinda scratchy tea dust/lung is a real thing for sure haha, but you could do a spot test on your skin with chamomile tea to see if anything happens before drinking then just try a small amount.
      Also, it's weird they added iodine to that list, I'll do some digging but it may have been a typo.

    • @Brooke.E1
      @Brooke.E1 6 місяців тому

      @@sheisofthewoodsThank you so much!!! I figured it was relatively simple but people like to get extra fancy with their articles it seems 😂
      Cool I will use that trick for a few things I haven't tried yet and see how it goes!
      Yeah the iodine really threw me off! Of course the article didn't go into anything on it at all, it was just listed as part of the "if you are allergic to (insert list of plants and iodine for some reason lol) avoid dandelion" which is interesting. I had googled "can i have dandelion root tea if I'm allergic to ragweed" and it was the first thing that popped up from a website called mount sinai.
      Also I assume that if its just the pollen that messes me up dandelion roots for tea will be ok because they don't get covered in pollen being that they are under ground lol. Might help out some of my acid reflux issues I hope!

    Hiya April! Would you recommend this for a postpartum spray? I’m wondering if it would be safe for the whole perennial and vulval area post birth. If yes are there any circumstances of birth where it would not be recommended?
    I’m also wondering about any alternatives to antibiotics if Group B streptococcus were present, but I know this could be a bigger more complex topic so don’t worry if that part is too complicated.
    Thank you for showing up in life!! You’re amazing ❤

      You could use it 3-4 days post birth, may still sting a bit but would be good to encourage healing.
      I haven't dug into alternatives for that but am curious now so likely will 🤣

    Excuse my lack of knowledge when asking this …. But does the color of yarrow matter? Is one color more potent or beneficial than another? Thanks

    • @sheisofthewoods
      @sheisofthewoods  6 місяців тому +3

      It's best to always use white yarrow as often the colored varieties are manipulated by man and they have an imbalance of VOCs that can be harmful.

    How often is it safe to use for acne? Daily? For how long? Thank you, love your videos!

    • @sheisofthewoods

      Daily for as long as you need, may be mindful to use a gentle moisturizer in the evening just so you don't dry out 💚

    I picked up some yellow yarrow at a plant nursery. Is it still medicinal? Or should I only use the white variety?

    • @sheisofthewoods

      You'll only want to use the white variety 😊

    I know she used witch hazel and not coconut oil, but… but, does coconut oil dry out anyone else’s skin or am I the only one? I’m just really curious because so many people love and use coconut oil, but I can’t, it dries out my skin and hair… other than that I love coconut oil lol

    Hello, Ms. April, I'm wondering how can I naturally remove a boil from my underarm? Please help

    • @sheisofthewoods
      @sheisofthewoods  3 місяці тому

      Could do Comfrey compresses until it dissolves or drains. If it drains I'd be aggressive about keeping yarrow tincture or witch hazel on it to stop infection.

    April, I have some yarrow I made into a tincture 3 yrs ago. Can I use that in a sprtizer,instead of adding plant material? I know it will be drying cause of the alcohol, but could I add alil more glycerine? Or is it just a bad idea?

      You could, just add a bit more glycerin so it's not too drying for the face

      You can probably use it for the Spritz but I'd not use it for a tincture.
