Just done a similar delivery in mid November of a Dale Nelson 51 from Hamble to Liverpool. We just plodded at 12 knots and even then used 4200 litres of diesel so I dread to think what the consumption would be at 19!
What a pity that they stopped building Nelson motor yachts, not that I could ever have afforded one. I well remember coming round Lands Ends End the first time in my small Contessa 26 decades ago. I can now admit that it was on the third tide and day two when I got round the corner. A Vire two stroke was as much help as an ashtray on a motor bike. Fond memories now, though. I enjoy these different videos although if you are ever delivering a Hallberg 69 again and are short of crew? 😂😂
Quite by chance one day I came across a video on UA-cam of somebody boarding or leaving a pilot boat and I was shocked. If that were on dry land HSE would shut the whole thing down. Clearly Health and Safety at Work Act doesn't apply. But I'm staggered that nobody has ever found a better means or a safer means of helping people to get on and off these ships especially in rough seas. Where it's smooth and quiet then I can see it's just it's a little bit chancy but on a heavy sea I've seen some of those it's scary as hell. So I'm curious can you perhaps enlighten me as to what thought has gone into making something better? Thank you.
