Omg. Didn't know about that restore feature in the recovery mode, thank you. But what about the TRIM issue? Many resources say you need to use trim command if you use the mac for heavy duty tasks
Yes, and on 10.10.3 or earlier you should also install Cindori Trim Enabler www.cindori.org/software/trimenabler/ or Chameleon SSD Optimizer chameleon.alessandroboschini.com/ after the install to extend the life of the drive and gain even higher read/write speed. On 10.11.x and up you need to run trimforce in Terminal. Here is an article on that: osxdaily.com/2015/10/29/use-trimforce-trim-ssd-mac-os-x/
i only had base system as my option so let's see what happens. thank u btw. everyone said use a usb drive as a bootable backup but recovery mode did wonders using a sata to usb cable
Hi, I have a late 2011 MacBook pro and wish to replace the HD, but my issue is that my original hd is divided so I can use two systems, one of them is the Lion, which is compatible with my Pro Tools software. I don’t want to lose that installation, is there another way I could do this? Thank you!!!
Okay so I have an older Macbook pro. It is a 15.4 inch early 2008, the one with a disk drive. (Yes that old) and I want to up it to today's standards because I love this Mac and I dont want to buy some fancy new one. So is there a disk upgrade to make it newer than my OS X Yosemite version 10.10.5 ?
Just replaced old HD with a UV400. First, it was super fast and then suddenly MacBook started to not recognize the SSD. Tried re-installing the software but after a few hours of usage same thing happens. Desperate for help, would appritiate a way out!
the problem is that it doesn't work for the MacBook Pro 2015. the storage is mounted on the mainboard. it sucks... (written with a MacBook Pro ´15 2015 with only 500 GB storage... :/ ) i won't pay the 1 TB 600€ upgrade..
If I have the SSD installed in a PC and I want to pass it to a Mac, can I do the same thing? Or do I need to erase all data from the ssd? if yes, how do I do that?
I just installed the same ssd in my macbook pro in my optical bay, whenever my mac wakes from sleep, it freezes the whole system forever. Any suggestions?
I went to the apple store and they fixed it. I am using a 2011 macbook pro 13". The SSD is kingston 240gb uv400. The problem was that the SSD wasnt working correctly in the optibay so they put the SSD in the main drive bay and it fixed the problem.
Yea that's a tricky installation. You need to make sure the SSD adapter is compatible with the drive otherwise you're limiting the full functionality and possibly it not working at all.
Hello Kingston (Trisha)! A few months ago I did the same steps you showed on the video and I've got a nice speed upgrade on my Macbook Pro (Early 2011). Suddenly, a few days later, I noticed that my macbook pro started to have some crashing. They last between 10 to 20 seconds and then the system comes to normal again. From time to time they occur. I updated the SSD Firmware with the Kingston Software (as instructed by an kingston technician) and enabled the trimforce using Terminal. The problem was still happening. That was bugging me a lot and I google it to try to find more informations. I've found that many users had the same problem and got back to the old HDD (I did the same). Well, I saw this video today and I hope I could find an answer. Thank you in advance! Macbook Pro (Early 2011) | Kingston ssdnow v300 480GB
To everyone: This is a very useful, and expeditious way to upgrade your mechanical HD to a SSD 2. why do we need to remember to choose the new hard drive as start, wouldn’t it default? What if we forget, disconnect and misplace or loose the old one? 3. The presenter is too pretty. Plus she could be an actress based her handling of the “It’s alive scene”. Still, she is excellent and made this very informational and easy to follow. Thanks. Tell her she’s pretty.
Mine started up without giving me a choice of using “new hard drive” but it is in and working. I see the new capacities etc etc. I think you are right but I’m nervous I didn’t do it right? It’s working great otherwise. My stuff looks exactly the same. “Cloned”
hello! i wish to do this on my Macbook Pro 2015 13" retina display, is it possible? the original SSD is 128gig and more and more it feels less than enough to store my data. thanks!
Hi, unfortunately this would not be possible on your MacBook Pro 2015 13" Retina . We do support your system with our SSDs We apologise that we have been unable to assist you on this occasion. However, should you have further queries do not hesitate to contact us.
Kingston Technology , er? You “do support” or do not support his system? We have three of the same or similar: MacBooks 2015 -2019 with existing SSDs that are lower capacity
TRISHAAA!! She's why I'm here but I do love these DIY in 5 vids! Love my Kingston hard drives and ram too!

I would add to do a full Time Machine backup BEFORE doing any major changes to a mac.

Yes you can put the SSD inside the MAC however you will have to format it to work. Here is a starting guide for you on how to do so. spr.ly/6051Df0NW
Trisha! You're still on UA-cam! Wow!
