Guys, pay attention. Every 2 - 3 years the brake fluid needs to be completely flushed and replaced and that’s throughout the entire hydraulic system. Brake fluid has very high water absorption properties. This moisture in the fluid will eventually cause rust inside the braking system and will contaminate it. Only reset the warning if the proper service has been undertaken. You can certainly do this service yourself but mechanical ability and tools are required. Don’t forget, this system is the thing that STOPS YOU! If you own a beautiful car like a BMW, take responsibility and keep it maintained. Also, ALWAYS wipe off the screw lid on the reservoir with a clean cloth before unscrewing it. You mustn’t get any dirt of any kind into the fluid.
I do own a BMW dude but i don't sell or service them, except my own X3. If you can't do your brake service yourself and can't afford to take it to BMW you should go to any brake service centre to get it done. If you can't afford to look after your car properly then dont buy a BMW.
@@72wildcatz When I purchased my X3, I also purchased a 5-year maintenance plan that goes with it. I checked the maintenance records and found no where of flushing brake fluid. So the statement of 2-3 year flushing was bogus. The indication light shows a maintenance date did not mean the brake fluid needs to be flushed. If it does need then the indication lights would say so. This is not an ambiguous matter. Brake fluid belongs to oil category, and oil and water do not mix. There is no such thing that brake fluid "has very high water absorption properties", and there is no water to be absorbed inside the braking hydraulic system.
@aaronvincent9003 I was wondering myself how and why there could be contamination with the brake oil, which is in a closed circuit. The only potential interaction with water (when it rains or car wash) will be at exit point (brake pad). So, topping up the low oil makes more sense. A few video of those flushing that I have watched, I observed that the fluid being removed is as clean as the one being added. The same argument is on for transmission fluid replacement. Some suggests flushing out at some point, some says its a lifetime fluid.
Thanks so much for this. Other UA-camrs said I needed a diagnostic device to perform this reset! I used your advice to reset my X5 F15, worked perfectly.
The brake fluid service message means that you need to FLUSH the brake fluid, not only top it up! You are misleading people by posting this! Brake fluid should be flushed every two years or so as it degrades over time.
Question: Mine says something like: brake fluid service. Does it mean I have to pay some mechanic to flush the old brake fluid and refill it with new one? Or is ok if I just add some brake fluid and reset it? I think brake fluid was serviced 2 years ago. Please advise. I can't afford $200 for brake fluid service. Thank you
@@kingbrave267 I haven't done it yet. I had an oil leak on the oil pan drain plug after I changed the oil and had to order an slightly bigger tap and die set with some M13 x 1.50 drain plugs to fix it for $20. BMW wanted $1600 to replace oil pan. Will do the brake fluid reset Sunday an update results.
Thanks, dealer wants to charge $169 but I checked myseld the brake fluid barely used(just little bit below max) and follow your instructions. DONE!
That’s awesome, thanks
Thank You that was very helpful.
Awesome. Glad to hear

You must be a BMW dealer.
And you must have known how much they charge for this exact procedure. Incredible!

I am not a specialist, please refer to your manual. However my advise is no, i never flush it and replace it. Just top it off and reset it.
Cheers
@@sjlifeadventure Thanks. I will just add some and reset it for now. If someday get extra money will pay to flush old one.
Thanks
