  • On the 22nd of November 2003, England took to the field to vie for the World Cup title with World Champions Australia.
    100 minutes later, Mike Catt was kicking the ball off the field to cement Englands' name on the Web Ellis Trophy. This accomplishment was the result of 6 years of planning, hard work, innovation and revolution by the England team, led by their forward thinking Coach: Clive Woodward.
    Today, in our first episode of the Champions Series, we show you exactly how they did it. We break down their Mindset and change in culture; their set piece philosophies and their specialist attacking plays, and lastly, the list of attacking patterns they used to dominate and exhaust their opposition.

    Hi Wibble, loved the video, these deep dives are amazing. One tiny little suggestion, some of it is a little repetitive, e.g. 'He broke down what they had in common, he broke down the common traits they had.' Maybe this is what you were going for, trying to emphasise the point, but it feels like it could be a little more streamlined. Now please don't take this for anything other than a nitpick, please keep these rugby dissertations coming, there's no one else out there bringing this level of detail. Thanks for all the hard work 😃

    Quite the documentary !! I couldn’t help but pick out many similarities between how this England team was building and what France have beeen doing in the past 3 years, with the changing mindset, learning from the losses and ever improving

    This is a little nieve but I never thought that there tactics from that long ago would be so in depth, also seeing set moves that work without a blocker is very strange

    Great job! The switch pattern is commonly used by Dave Rennie’s teams and Gregor Townsend’s . This pattern is very often used by Scotland.

      I have seen it in few games, for an example Scotland vs Italy 2020 and almost every game of Glasgow

      @@Debrenliev Expect to see it with the Wallabies pretty soon!

    • @Debrenliev

      Wibble Rugby I hope so but I personally think it will be a very different approach by Rennie at Test level. The attacking coach of the Wallabies ( Wisemantel ) has a different mindset. He is more of a modern attacking structure guy, who loves the league lines pretty much and mixes the game. But let’s hope so because this structure is so easy but yet so effective and especially against the All blacks will be very productive ( lazy folding forwards after the fourth phase)

    • @WibbleRugby
      @WibbleRugby  3 роки тому +1

      @@Debrenliev Rennie and Wisemantel are both brilliant coaches. Its whether they can be brilliant together. But agreed. Simplicity is often the most effective and the Switch in particular is so underused in Rugby when it can be so effective. Imagine Kolbe coming in for this when the numbers have folded. It couls be lethal.

    This unpredictability appears to be pretty much synonymous with what squidge identifies as EJs aim for England’s play. But he seems to be approaching it by an unnecessarily circuitous route

    I don't know how familiar you are with cricket (and I realise this is a year after you released this video) but there are some interesting parallels between this team and the England men's cricket team which won the World Cup in 2019

      Probably NZ 2015. Australia 1999 are one of my favourite teams of all time, but NZ 2015 were something great.
