Great video. Thank you for posting. The easy access to mirror lock-up (just twist the black dial on the side of the camera) and the glowing benefit of having the camera print/provide the exposure settings at the edge of the photo frame is very useful too. Cheers from Canada

I have the AFD III. Underrated camera for sure. The images that come out from this camera are super sharp and almost clinical like digital. So I only use it for paid projects like high fashion or product advertisements. The high res scans will blow your mind. For portraits I prefer other medium format cameras.

    Great content!
I have been thinking about getting it until people saying it will be impossible to repair or service this machine due to the discontinuation of certain components. Difficult to get something expensive but run the risk of not being able to be repaired 😢

I enjoy using film cameras with AF these days. Allows me to just enjoy taking photos on film on days when i don't feel like tinkering around too much. Currently on the Nikon F100 which is severely underrated and hopefully stays that way haha.

Thanks for sharing. My 645 AFD stopped firing and says "error 02". Any idea what this could possibly mean? Pro repair shops told me they refuse to service this camera. It seems like such a fun automatic medium format but I feel more comfortable with my RB67 knowing it will always be repairable.

Mamiya 645 reminds me of GFX photos

The Contax 645 is still the GOAT. Check out Archetype Film Emulation. Probably the best out there for digital cameras.

The Contax 645 has too many electrical issues. Mamiya AFD will give you a more trouble free future.😊

This is heat, I never know when to shoot vertical or horizontally, I try to do both but end up using more vertical shots. I've been looking for a Contax TVs Digital but that Mamiya looks great too. How do you feel about the weight on it?

It’s not a light camera with everything loaded. But still lighter than an Rb67 or Pentax 67.

This camera is OK. Not quite as good as the Contax with a 80mm or the rz67 with the the 110 f/2.8. I wish the df allowed Film backs because the df is better than the adf. Also, the 150mm is better than the 80mm f/2.8 a lot of times.

LOL! Hey me, it's me again. I just came to say - November 2020, I bought a mamiya 645 afd, mamiya 645df, 2 film backs, 2 digital backs, the 55mm f/2.8, the (good) 80mm f/2.8, and another 80 f/2.8 for $900 from a friend who got it from another photographer friend selling their gear due to cancer. I should pull it out more often.

at 10:36 you are almost right, but there is one better (Hasselblad 500C\m) with its baffle and mirror/leaf shutter all sounding together, nothing better, sorry.

Nice camera but why waste film for this kind of shots without any story or content ?
