Alcohol will not make you sleepy immediately, but it will increase the rate with which you become sleepy. I use it when i know what will come. e.g. wake up, drink some alcohol, correct the course, catch some fish, go to bed, repeat.
Loving this series, reminded me of how much I loved Sailwind. Hopefully we’ll get some ship’s boats for larger vessels so we can anchor outside the harbour and ferry goods in and out with a rowboat
The main mast is the tallest. If the shorter mast is in front, it's a foremast. If the shorter mast is aft, it's a mizzen. The Sanbuq has a main and mizzen mast.
38:55 the hold is the lowest area of the ship, but the deck you're referreing to on the sandbuq would likely be the main deck or weather deck, as it's exposed to the weather. top deck isn't used because you might still have some sort of quarterdeck above the main deck, like on the cog and brig, but the closest term to top deck would be "upper deck" which would be the highest of *fully enclosed* decks.
After beaching my small ship on Albacore island today, I was expecting a mishap with that big ship after you declared you'd go there. Was not disappointed. ;)
I have a "topsail schooner" type setup for the Sanbuq that I absolutely love. Topsail gaffs on main and mizzen, couple of fore jibs, add a couple of ~5m squares for extra speed. Well balanced, capable, and fast.
Alcohol and tobacco is essential for sleep management. The different brands of tobacco has different effects. Black makes you more awake while smoking, but makes you tired after (great for timing a nap. Brown makes you tired smoking but increases regen. White plain makes you awake and green is sleepy. Alcohol serves to hydrate and make you sleepy, unsure exactly if there is any real difference between em. If you do it right you will not miss(hit) islands, ensuring your snore sessions remain naps instead of a twelve hour hibernation.
I like to think this world is its own life sustaining planet somewhere out there. Unless the devs add more areas to this, I wonder how big this planet could be in relation to ours and what it might look like from orbit? Since it’s mostly water with little land mass, I’d guess it’ll look mostly blue similar to photos of Neptune. I also guess, since it doesn’t take too long to sail between each region, it most likely is a lot smaller than Earth, possibly even a moon of a larger planet. One thing I hope the devs add is more life. It would be incredible to be sailing along and see marine creatures in the water, maybe Dolphins or Dolphin-like animals leaping out of the water.
Hey I'm a bit late to this series so I hope your still working on it. But I really enjoyed seeing the full footage of the sailing! I also heard that there's navigation via reading the stars (or maybe that's a different game I'm thinking of?) but it would be really cool to see you do a voyage primarily at night and explain the navigation via stars :)
You are 100% correct about navigating by the stars, it's one of this games best unique features, and I demonstrate and use navigation throughout this series.
It's very hard to sink a Sanbuq. It's got such high sides. I prefer mine with a sloop sail config with one central mast. Did you know that a Boat back in the age of sail was any ship with more than one mast and fully rigged. A single-mast ship is considered a yacht. I generally keep one or two lanterns running all night.
to my knowledge, the cargo area on that ship could interchangably be called the hold or the first deck, while the area above with the foreward mast could be called the main deck, and the area with the wheel could be called the quarterdeck or the upper deck. but it seems that terminology for different decks is a bit loosey goosey and often defined by their purpose as much as their location
I can only recommend going first to Happy Bay and then south to Emerald. There is a windmap if you google it. Basically just head NNE - NE until you get to 33N (or is it S33 ?), i think and then ENE for Happy Bay and you'll have favorable winds. From Happy Bay - Emerald i usually head SE first then swing around to SW. Beating into it for days can be frustrating even with the Sanbuq as the wind shifts constantly. Cheers !
Hey... At least it wasn't the Brig. That island is definitely one of the worst for the capital ships. The Junk can handle it okay-ish, but the Sanbuq and Brig really struggle.
You know a mug holds 3 units of water, but you ingest much more water than 3 units of water in a bottle. I think it’s more efficient to drink from a mug over a bottle because you use less water.
In my experience, the wind in the Emerald Archipelago tends to be very random. However, this often is to your advantage. It is Aestrin where I find myself CONSTANTLY sailing into the wind. Which is especially annoying since it's native ships are horrible at dealing with that.
I know this was a year ago, but I'm loving the series.

"Luckily, I'm out of cash, I spent it all on this big ass ship." 10/10 quote. Would fall out of my chair laughing again.

kinda like the longer form videos, Nice hearing all the little in-between talking. You have some interesting insights

thought it was the poop deck.
@@Mossy_Wombat that would be the deck on top of the aftcastle.
You're doing a good job you have nice content keep going.

I love the Sanbuq, easily by favourite of the large ships. It has such a sleek look to it.
You should drop by Al'Nelim and pick up the special 10-sip flask of water.

@@SimGamerTV Gotcha, thanks for the reply :) Looks I'll have just keep watching then :p Keep up the good work!

Love your Sailwind content - looking forward to more, and to get to that level myself!

In third person view does players character show on the deck or does it look like an empty ship sailing?
Right now it looks like an empty ship.
Hooper Flooper Dooper Whooper!
👍
It's main deck and lower deck, basically.

I just changed to a gaff and jib and it's been very frustrating dealing with headwind. I replaced my oversized lanteen :(
