Great book! I never liked the narrative that Spider-Man couldn't have done anything against Firelord. Spider-Man not just went at Firelord without holding back, he also caught Firelord by surprise! Spider-Man turned in on Firelord when he didn't expect it! Surprise can overcome a lot in battles. We have seen it through history. Hello James and Heidi!

Well, as I noted, "on paper" Spider-Man shouldn't have a chance against Firelord, but that's what makes the story so intense. True, the advantage of surprise helped Spidey here, as well as his tried and true tactic of using mockery to keep Firelord off balance mentally. This is why I love the story so much. It's just a perfect example of exciting superhero storytelling. And I wish we saw more of it today. Thanks for your insightful comment, my friend, as always.

I had only been buying Spider-Man for maybe a year when this came. I remember every month how anxious i was to get the next issue of anything Marvel. I really miss stories like this.

So do I, man. But at least we can go back to these old tales, to remind us of what quality entertainment is supposed to be like. Thanks for your thoughts.

Avengers #258 from 1985 ties in with this story too. Takes on the Avengers after they take him away if memory serves me correctly. Might make a good follow up video.

I believe that they team-up with Firelord to deal with the Skrulls and Nebula. But I did know that Firelord's story did continue into the Avengers. This is how you do "shared universe" correctly and making stories have substance and weight. Thanks for the comment.

That's even more interesting that Firelord teamed up with them. Haven't read that one since I was twelve. And it was quick since it was a friend's copy that I glanced at quickly at his house. Lol

Another good Spider-man victory like that is versus D'Spayre down in the swamp...He gets into that manic state, raining blows down..I think that took place in a Team-Up issue from the seventies...

That would be Marvel Team-Up #68, from 1978, by Claremont and Byrne. Hard to go wrong with an issue done by the guys who made the X-Men into a dominate force at Marvel. Thanks for your comment.

I've always said a great cover is necessary for a comic to succeed.

Great issue. It's proof we need more fights about pizza.
