Informative video for a 1st time IWC buyer, you obviously put a lot of effort putting this together. Great pick, that Mark XV on the first generation of bracelet, similar in design to that of the Mark XII. These are quite hard to come by. Watchbase is really good, but not always 100% accurate. For instance, the IWC UTC 3251 is given at 13.5mm thickness when in fact it's closer to 12.3mm. You should try it on, if you find one at a vintage dealer. I adore mine, which I put on the same plane as my Rolex Explorer II 16570. They both wear equally well, and provide great functionalities. As for the Mark series, if one cares for military affiliation, the Mark XI is the one to go for. The IWC Flieger in its purest form, powered by the wonderful IWC 89 movement. The Mark XII isn't bad, but the JLC 889 based movement inside is notoriously fickle. The Mark XV is a better buy in this respect, the heavily customized ETA 2892-A2 proving much more sturdy and easy to regulate. The Mark XVI / XVII / XVIII are a significant step down from the Mark XV in details and finishing. The Mark XX is a great modern Flieger, marking a substantial improvement compared to the previous three iterrations.
Sweet. Send me a picture when it lands. I will likely do an alternates video down the road. Laco, Stowa, Tutima and even Orfina to be included. Happy Friday, D
We're parking our cars in the same garage! I'd probably go for the 11 instead of the 12 if I ever went full tilt vintage. 15 has been wearing great tho.
That's interesting. The 16 and 17 are generally my least favorite, mostly due to the 6/9 being gone. I hadn't considered the day wheel aspect, that's a good point. Thank you for sharing!
@@GapBahnDirk I rewatched my own video and you've about won me over. There is a balance to the dial layout I had not considered when I first performed my research. Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LOL, I know, I just thought it'd be a funny bit. I think they may have considered it would be confusing for a general public that is unfamilair with the reductive right to left thing in Roman numerals. Thanks for stopping by!
@@chaoseus lol, you can't compare longines to iwc, iwc is up there with Rolex, Omega, Cartier etc, longines is on the same level as Oris etc Longines make good watches for the money but iwc make the best pilot watches and great watches like the ingenier, Portuguesier, perpetual calendars etc
@@coffeeboyclips1973 oi IWC fanboy your boring watch brand didnt even make it to top 10 on sales last year and this year. That just tells how much people doesnt like your favourite brand. So yeah they are totally on different level 😂😂😂
@@chaoseus longines are a much cheaper brand hence why more people can afford to buy them. Iwc is more exclusive. Sales don't mean anything. According to your logic, longines must also be better than JLC, Blancpain, etc as these brands sold fewer watches than longines in 2023
Great video, very comprehensive! What's great is the latest spitfire uses the same 32111 movement as the Mark XX
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for sharing that update with me. Best, D

Well put, thank you for adding to the conversation! Cheers, D
Beautiful watches!! Love IWC
well put, super impressed with the Mark 15. Still looking at Mark 20 tho LOL
Nice video, recently saw Mark 20 in an IWC Boutique, stunner!
So glad you enjoyed the video! The Mark 20 remains an option...tho the Black Aces version calls to me more! Cheers, D
I wanted an IWC for years but too pricey.. then i found the new Stowa Verus 36 and it’ll be here soon. Cant wait!

I absolutely adore that mk15, I love the 11 and 12 but too small for me, I think I like the hands better than the sword hands.

Thanks for the comprehensive guide D, very useful! And thank you for the shout-out🙏
My pleasure as always!! Looks amazing on your strap. Best, D
Nice!!!! top summary!
Thank you! So glad you enjoyed it. Happy Friday, D
Great video and appreciate all the research and presentation of so much information.
Thank you kindly, glad you enjoyed it! Best, D
Another great video.
Top 3 IWC watches (in no particular order):
1. Portugieser
2. Portofino
3. Pilot’s Watch Chrono (Top Gun)
Big thanks! Gotta get me an IWC diver now.
@@HobbyOfHours Do yourself a favor and look for a GST Aquatimer 3536. It's on the thick side, but not more than a Rolex 16600 Sea-Dweller.
Iwc make amazing watches, they need to be seen in the metal to be appreciated
Yes indeed. Appreciating even this older piece!
I like the MKXVI best as it is 39mm and the lug to lug is perfect at 48mm. also, it has a black date wheel. No other mark has this elegant combo.

@@HobbyOfHours I also like the symmetry of the MkXVI, even though it is not the traditional MKXII layout with 6 & 9. 👍👍
@@GapBahnDirk I'm going to take your input and consider it again. See if it might grow on me a bit!

19 in roman numerals is XIX - that would look good on a dial. Why didn't they do it?

Looks like an Ali Express $80 watch.
LOL, which one? They're great btw.
Overpriced, boring design watches. Longines has better design and heritage for a more affordable price.
I'd agree on pricing but not the design being boring. Which Longines would you put into this category as a substitute?

@@coffeeboyclips1973 then how come rolex, ap and patek has more sales even theyre much more expensive than your ugly and boring IWC brand? 😂😂😂
