Should hang a snatch block of where the grapple attaches.. get some more lift. Looks like fun! Those 518’s were top shelf back in the day. Thanks for sharing!
That 518 was the ticket in mountains , Franklin skidded was about as good , got have a good faller , Fallin side hill so it's easy and fast in the skidded man,
@@hoskinslogging9858 Good to hear, I’ve had a cherry 1986 JD440D and now a 1989 TF C5D long frame with the Deutz air diesel. Both great machines but those Cats seem like a wicked rig. Gotta love that snarl and growl of a Cat skidder too 💪 damn they sound good!
Being a logger myself, this was painfull to watch. Why don't you get those bots of the ground? Trust me, I ran a 518 cat in some steep country, and they were one of the most stable skidderd I've ever operated
My thoughts exactly, my chokers never dragged on the ground but the arches on the Timber Toter 518 and Clark 668 where higher up And they where all good skidders
Fix the fairlead. Don't EVER run a skidder like that. And it's a cheap fix and you are so slow with it broken = not to mention you are ruining the machine.

Love those 518s!!
I am not familiar with all the new stuff they have nowadays but the 518 IMHO was the best skidder I ever operated back in the day.
Can't beat those old CATs the 3304 was a tough old 4cyl
I run a 1998 cat 518 I didn't like that it only had 3 forward and 3 reverse but I did like the air breaks and power that the winch had
If you'd winch the wood up into the arch it would pull easier

Thats some good and long drags, I`s like to try a 518
You’d love them

Are lot of these logs for firewood
Does the winch work u keep backing up to the logs instead winching
No it was broke
What is that ticking noise comin from the skidder??
Had a problem with the air system. Built too much pressure all the time. That’s the relief valve. Turned about to be the air dryer
Why don't you have the grapple on the skidder?
It didn’t have one on it when we bought it... we’ve always been used to cable skidding.
@@hoskinslogging9858 Buy one, you'll be glad you did.

Gotcha, I like those cats. Always wanted to have a 508 cable. Maybe someday if the right one comes by..
@@jdatwood7086 I can’t brag on the 518’s enough. We’ve had two in the history of our little outfit. Loves both of them
