They never really cared to get popular themselves, from what I've read. I think a few members were just like "I don't really wanna be a rock star" and so they never did more than openers and small shows, as well as breaking up more than a few times. They were really popular back in the day, but they never got much further than being popular in the underground.
My guess is they sounded enough like Weezer for people to write them off. And they were coming up right when Weezer was going out of fashion with their 3rd album. I do love Rock and roll part three.

Hardcore fans were very mixed on it, but as far as the mainstream goes, it was huge for them. If anything, labels and radio woulda wanted another Weezer-type band at that time.
I think this maybe the only full song I recorded. I’ll have to go back and check out my footage. I may have gotten most of Eponine and possibly Battle Scars. I would have loved to have recorded the whole show but I was too hyped and needed to see it with my own eyes.
