    green is a odd color on a guitar, especially an SG, but i always thought the SG could use some new color options besides the typical red or black. those are the most common, but green wouldn't be the first color id think lol. white looks really nice on a SG, I've seen a few before.

    Thanks to David and John, another P-90 guitar nails it! Yah I do like the Epi Inverness Green. I only own a P-90 guitar and a Fender single coil guitar. No more humbuckers for me.

    Nice playing in the demo.... and edited together really well. Thanks. I have this guitar and it's a spunky rascal! Very nice. Similarly I have a '61Gibson SG w/ Maestro Vibrola I find fascinating. Very different and cool instruments. I also have a 1977 Gibson Les Paul Special with P90's with which I've compared this Epiphone SG. It stands right up there - maybe even a little more sassy. A classic rock machine... Maybe that's why they called it a Classic rather than an SG Special, which I think it really is. Thanks again!

    Greetings John from sunny Rhyl :-) hope you doing very well my friend. I bought a Epiphone SG custom about a month ago, took weeks to get here from Sweden even though I ordered it from the company that sent you the box box behind you in this vid :-)
    Nice guitar and looks amazing but I must admit I love a satin finish and SG's and P90's and don't have a guitar with P90's at the minute so it looks like I'm about to become even poorer but guitar richer :-) has to be the cherry red one for me though rather than the green. A few years back I bought a Gisbon SG standard (125th anniversary year) and a what I think was called an SJ SG in a satin 'worn' finish and it felt much nicer in the hand than the standard so I ended up trading that in for a 52' Tele reissue and paid the extra which was perhaps one of the nicest guitars I've ever owned but as with most of my guitars long sold as unfortunately I to need to keep my strength up with curry and beer (although it's low alcohol these days thanks to the handful of pills I have to take to keep me alive each day, but then don't most of us!
    Keep up the great work John and happy trails!

    Interesting, normally for that money I'd say go with Vintage for an SG, but sounds good. My Son a lefty and his old Epiphone SG, was transformed by some Iron Gear pickups, Im thinking of sticking a P90 in my Vintage SG neck pickup, as I never use that, on that Guitar, Question is, would you Gig it?

    My my, and yet a 3rd SG behind you.....you've gone from total SG aversion to SG-aholic overnight John! Can't say I blame you. I do think that green finish looks much better in your video than it does on the website, I had had a look at that guitar in the past and was put off by the look, but I find it actually rather handsome in real life. Mine is a sparkly pelham blue that I find beautiful, regardless of the traditional colours of famous SGs. Maybe Toni "Lommi" 's SG was green or blue 🤣 . The proper Iommi's original SG was red with P-90s btw, known as the monkey SG due to the sticker of a monkey he had on it. Used it on the majority of the tracks on the first Black Sabbath albums. I too have a favorite P90 guitar, the same as yours but in blue, it's possibly my best guitar. Cheers!

    I agree worn and faded which Gibson use is a little bit of a misleading name.I own a Gibson SG faded and it isn't reliced at all. In fact its just cosmetically stripped down version of the standard, it just doesnt have the block inlays,binding and diamond on the headstock and has a thinner nitro finish. They should have called these types of guitars the classic line instead for Gibson and Epiphone I think.

    Great video and playing. But can you please tell me what pluggins you were using to get you sound? I am strickly a guitar plugged into a Marshall Siver Jubilee but have been kicking around with getting into the pluggins. So I am asking because the love the sound you were able to get and I love the amp selections you showed on the video. Appreciate any info you can give.

    • @JRobsonGuitar

      Cheers mate. I was using Positive Grid Bias Amp 2 for all the guitar tones. I usually use the Plexi or Orange presets for crunchy power chord stuff & the Monster VH4 preset for higain lead. For clean strummy stuff, the Dumble preset is hard to beat and the JTM45 setting is excellent for a fat but clean lead. I can highly recommend Bias Amp... It actually *feels* like playing through a real valve amp 👍

    • @lespaul-vy4vn
      @lespaul-vy4vn 2 роки тому

      @@JRobsonGuitar Thanks for the reply back. Like I said I am a traditionalist when it comes to playing but after seeing your video I am really interested in checking this out. My only issue is I have no clue on where to start with this stuff and really dont know what I would need to do to get started. I know you need the software but not sure where the sound comes from. Does it run into a speaker cab? This is all new to me. But being there is a tube shortage for amps this may be the route to take.

    • @JRobsonGuitar
      @JRobsonGuitar  2 роки тому +2

      No worries, mate. Here's how you get set up...
      The 1st thing you need is an audio interface. This is what you plug your guitar into & it connects to your computer via USB. Then you connect your speaker system (I use a 2.1 home cinema system) to the output of the interface. Your computer now "sees" the interface as it's sound card & all the audio on your PC now will come out of the speakers connected to the interface.
      Next thing you need is some recording software. I use Reaper which is free to try for 60 days, then a licence will cost you about 60 quid. Then you basically use Bias Amp in Reaper as a plug in. You CAN use Bias amp as a stand alone app outside of Reaper but I have problems doing it this way. When Bias Amp is running this way, I am unable to play back any other audio (so I can't play along with a jam track)
      So... audio interface + speaker system + Bias Amp + Reaper and you're sorted.
      Hope this helps!

    Hi John, I always loved sg guitars. I couln't afford a Gibson so I bought the Epiphone Standard, the Special 11 and the Epipohone by Gibson. the problem I found was when I slid my hand upto the end of the necks my grip and thumb on the Special and Gibson barely reached the 13th fret making it more difficlt to play in that area but on the Standard my thumb easily reached the 19th fret so playing an octive higher above the 12th fret was much easier. . Does the Gibsons do that? Regards Bob

    • @JRobsonGuitar
      @JRobsonGuitar  Рік тому

      Erm... SGs are known for their excellent top fret access, so your problem seems an unusual/unique issue. However, given that Epiphone guitars are essentially just Gibsons built at a lower price point, I'd say you'd probably have the same difficulty.

  • @outtolunch88

    Great review and playing - love the green but I'm not really interested in cosmetics. In fact, the more Oddball the better.
    I picked up an Epi 50th Anniversary '61 a few years ago, mint with the plastic still on. A fret polish and lowered it, that's it.
    My go-to now, The Rickenbacker, Thinline and the others just sit there. The 60's neck and P90's. I wanted it to go through my 73 HiWatt DR504 - but mostly play through a new AC15.
    Just get one, set it up and let those trouser legs flap!

  • @johnmac8084
    @johnmac8084 2 роки тому +4

    I think they call it worn as it has a thin coat of nitro which will become worn quickly. For that reason I prefer the gloss finish. Gloss on the body, but satin on the neck for me.

      I ordered the H7 and got it yesterday. Though it's a really beautiful guitar I'm gonna return it. It was set up awkwardly (6th string at 12th fret about 2.5 mm), which I could have set up to my preference, but also the neck pickup is tilted towards the neck, which I couldn't fix easily by simply raising it a bit. Plus the narrow neck (40 mm nut width) doesn't really fit with my thickish fingers. So I got the return ticket today and ordered this Epi in worn cherry. You're lucky to be able to check them before buying, I haven't. I never had a 335 type and found it feels quite different from any solidbody I have played, exspecially when carried on a strap. Apart from that it's a matter of taste and also what you intend to do with it. Being more a Classic/Hard/Bluesrock player I'd go for the Solidbody.

    I bought one it was such crap the unfinished fret edges were rough and sharp. Action blah. The finish was awful and rough, even the neck! It should be priced at $75 US dollars at the most.. I live USA couldn’t return it fast enough even though I paid $329. US . However I do have a similar Epi Special from a few years prior that I do like that has an actual finish.
