I am a 54 yow who has skipped SO MANY watermelon growing videos because any idiot can make a video. I know a lot about gardening because I was taught by my husband’s grandma 33 years ago. You are a breath of fresh air on UA-cam. I have seen misshapen melons, dried vines, bottom rot, unhealthy vines, and terrible picking practices. Some people do not have enough sense to not show their stupidity. I’m here just because I am always improving & looking for tips, so the raised beds are a winner! The roots hate getting boggy & they need air. I grow mine in hills, but raised beds make a lot of sense if you keep them watered, so they will not dry out. Great job, young man!
I haven't had a garden in 25 years I'm in Indiana for the summer building a garden at my daughter's farm. I'm growing all my melons in tires filled with your type soil. I'm 80 years young
Last year was my most successful year with watermelon in raised beds. I had 2 plants per container across 4 containers. We ended up getting back around 16 pretty decent melons. Charleston Greys for those that are curious.
For 2 years I have been growing watermelon and cantaloups in raised bed. The soil I used is raised bed soil and what ever under the ducks and chickens. Sometimes I water 2 time a day because the hot weather dry the soil very easy. This year I grow so many different type of watermelon. I like the black diamond.
Dude, you are soooo hilarious!!! That opening was TV worthy. I felt ya! Your content is awesome and you present it very professionally and I enjoy watching AND learning!!! I think you are the only person on UA-cam that opens saying "stay TUNED" correctly. Most people say stay tune. Ok, thanks for sharing Brother! Cheers
I'm here in Texas and recently left my bucket of seeds out in the rain all night. I'm still kicking myself, but as a result, I couldn't just toss them all so I planted stuff everywhere including a bunch of watermelon seeds in my grow bags I had prepared for some raspberries. At the same time my husband just built me a raised bed in prepation for fall strawberry and asparagus plantings and I was going to put in some onions or basil in there until then but my raspberries arrived but found my melons looked so wonderful I just put them in there and came here to youtube to see if this was a thing and here is your video, and your BEAUTIFUL garden. New sub. Awesome...this made me feel so much more confident about my little emergency experiment going on here. Thanks!
Thanks, that's really handy. I'm growing watermelons for the first time. My daughter bought a slice and I thought I'd try planting them. Blimey me! I'm lucky I only planted 6 seeds! All of them grew. If a seed puts in the effort to sprout, I never throw it away I give it a chance, so now I'm sure I'll be feeding the 5000 with watermelons instead of fish! Healthier anyway!😂😂😂😂😂 Stella
@ron stone5 No offence taken. Yes I did know that actually! Keep pointing to all my veggie friends! You can guess how that goes...yep!.like a lead balloon! 🤣🤣🤣🤣. Peace! Stella
This was so informative to me. Thank you very much! I planted a watermelon starter plant in a raised bed. It's about ready to spill over the side so I wasn't sure what to do from here. I have gravel around my boxes so I'm thinking that will be ok.
Wow, such a neat set up!! I was concerned about the watermelon I have growing in containers. I had decide to build a trellis, so they could grow up because they are a smaller variety but I love your set up with a ground cover and adding the pine needles!! Thank you so much for sharing!!
I grow watermelon for weight competitions. 2021 was my 1st year growing in raised beds. I had 5 melons this year over 200 pounds each. 216.5, 236, 237, 248.5 & 260.5 lb. I like the raised beds 12' x 16' beds 1 plant/bed.
Great info and very timely. New to the watermelons and cantaloupe this year and doing them in beds…who knew?! Thanks again. You have a new subscriber.🤓
Where do you get your soil..? I found a sandy mulch along our creek drainage...I will try it for the 1st time. We have incredibly destructive pocket gophers and not sure if I can let the vines sit on screen cloth with bark....I may have to use a wire rack with cement blocks to give the vines some peace of mind....
Great video. Never thought about a raised bed for melons with overflow to a flat landscape area. I am trying to figure out how to do this in my limited space. Can you grow them vertically?
I've done them vertical from a raised bed and I love it!! It does take some tending to if you want them neat looking. It is really cool to be able to see on both sides of the plant and watch the fruit grow
I had 44 lbs crimson sweets raised in beds I also hung them. This year I’m growing in raised beds without hanging them. I had over 100 cantaloupe hanging from my raised beds hung by tomato cages . I had squash bugs bad in my pumpkins so I’m concerned this year growing my watermelon and cantaloupe in the beds the pumpkins were in. Crossing my fingers. Those bugs hibernate until the nest year and hard too get rid of.
Dear sir I learned a lot from you. But I wish you could make a video on how to prune, peppers, water melons, eggplants, melons, tomatoes, cucumbers, and zuchini. thank you.
I am trying this method this year. Can you tell which side/direction of your raised bed the vines are spilling over on? Have been concerned about vines receiving enough sunlight. Enjoyed your presentation.
Love this channel- informative, easy to follow and funny videos that I'm learning alot from- thank you so much for the tips, tricks and helpful information 😊
Mine grow in a raised bed, upwards on a trellis. A nylon (leg cut off pantyhose) is tied to make a hammock for the melons. Smaller round melons. Only 2 adults here.
Three questions from a subscriber who has learned a lot about gardening from your videos. Can the raised bed be half the height as yours (thinking about the amount of amended material to fill it plus the cost of the lumber). Second question...would it be hurtful to the plant to just cut the vines that are wanting to grow the in wrong direction? Eve without a second crop of some other plant (like your tomato plants) I see the need to be able to get close to the the raised bed to water the water melon plants...Third question....Is your growing medium 100% mushroom compost? No added supplements?
Your videos are so helpful. Keep them coming. I only planted two plants in my beds but I now have about 18 cantaloupe. Dinner are just starting to grow and are about an inch long. Is that too many for the vines to nourish. I planted May 5th and several of the melons are larger than a pound. We're in hot Alabama. Should I pick off the small ones??
Very interesting. How much pine needles do you put down and could I use something different? Should the vine be expected to root on/in the landscape fabric?
I planted some sugar baby's in containers. They are blooming and running like crazy. Already have little melons. What should I fertilizes them with? When I mixed my potting mix I used potting mix, black kow, bone meal and blood meal.
how far apart did you plant them? Most people say to do mounds like 5 feet apart but yours are in rows at look to be less than a foot between plants and that is exactly what I'm trying to do!
Just found your channel. Nice job! I like your setup and system. I'm going into my 2nd year. I have a spot picked for growing watermelons. But it's not fenced. Do critters, deer, coons come after these?
do the vines grow into the ground after they are laying there ? i am renting a house and i cant allow plants to start growing in the ground. Im buying a small 4 food wide raised bed. how deep is best for watermelon and cantaloupes?
I've learned more from 2 of this guy's videos than I have by watching 20 others on UA-cam. Good information and simple to understand.

Last year was my most successful year with watermelon in raised beds. I had 2 plants per container across 4 containers. We ended up getting back around 16 pretty decent melons. Charleston Greys for those that are curious.
Those are my favorite. Can't find them where I'm at, for some reason.
What kind of soil did u use ? And was yours raised ?
For 2 years I have been growing watermelon and cantaloups in raised bed. The soil I used is raised bed soil and what ever under the ducks and chickens. I was cracking up when he struggled with the hose! That’s me everyday!🤣🤣🤣

@ron stone5 🤣🤣🤣🤣. Maybe they'll be vegetarians, you never know! Thanks for the laugh! Stella

I'm doing watermelon in a raised bed for the first time this year. This video was so helpful, thank you!
Hilarious opening!! Watched it twice LOL. Thanks for video, I'm motivated, off to plant my cantaloupe.
Very nice beds and area! 👍 the hose..the struggle...🤣

Beautiful Garden you have. Thanks . I'm new at this.

I enjoy your talk plain and simple
The intro is classic!
Sooooo true. We all have had to conquer the rebellious hose!

Thanks for watching! Good luck with the trellis! I'm sure it will do fine! :)
@@skgreenhouse Hello, how are you, can I talk to you about agriculture?
Lol, the beginning is definitely me and my 100 foot hose 😂🤣😅
Yessss, can't wait to have a water line put in!
Hi, great information. We are planting our watermelons in a 100 Gallon grow bag. According to what you just showed I think we are good.

Thanks for this! I just planted both (from starter plants) in a raised bed we just built in our backyard
Can you recommend a good fertilizer for melons? Thanks 👍
Very knowledgeable....thanks for sharing
I found you just in time. Thank you!
How about a quick video on your raised bed boxes? The construction of course.
Yes! Thank you for the idea 💡 😊
What do you do for pest control and intrusive insects?

1991 NBA Slam Dunk Champion Dee Brown? That you?
@@leir2005 Oh, no. She/her my whole life, but I get that a lot 😎
😂 I love it! That so looks like me trying to drag the water hose around. I always find your videos beneficial!
What variety do you grow in containers? Great video as well showing if they are ripe. Thanks for sharing.
What do you do to control the deer, squirrels and other critters?
😂🤣the hose, I feel your pain!
Where do you get your soil..?

Thank You for this awesome motivation How do you keep the deer or bears from eating your cantaloupes and watermelons?
What month did you plant your watermelon and cantaloupe?
So just wondering what you feed your watermelon and Cantaloupes 💚🍈🍉
Thumbs UP!!! Excellent video on melons
Thanks, new to growing these guys (raised beds)... Oh boy they're taking off filling the whole bed. Now I know what do with the vines.
That the best melon 🍈 video yet!!👌🏾
Thank you 🙏🏽 your garden in perfectly beautiful 🤩
So Nice garden
Thank you for this. Straight and to the point. New subbie
Lol , 😆 Hey .. everyone Moniee-Mon, is listening thanks for the info vedios keep doing what'cha do best God bless ya!.
Good video. You don't bother pruning off the vines growing toward your tomatoes?
You sure could and would probably be easier. I'm just trying to get as much production out of my space as possible so I leave them on there.
Can they stay on top of grass? Or do they have to keep away from grass by using landscape fabric??
You can definitely let them grow on top of grass. I just like the clean look of the pine needles. 🙂
Great video. Never thought about a raised bed for melons with overflow to a flat landscape area. I am trying to figure out how to do this in my limited space. Can you grow them vertically?
I've never tried growing them vertically. I think you can do it though. May take a lot of pruning and staking to hold everything in place.
I've done them vertical from a raised bed and I love it!! It does take some tending to if you want them neat looking. It is really cool to be able to see on both sides of the plant and watch the fruit grow

I have done mine exactly like this because of your video! My question is do you prune or let them go wild?
how far apart did you plant them? Most people say to do mounds like 5 feet apart but yours are in rows at look to be less than a foot between plants and that is exactly what I'm trying to do!
Getting ready to plant watermelons with 9 and 5 year old, video super helpful! What growing zone are you in?
Great video Justin! When will you make a video for keeping herbs alive inside?
Thank you for watching!
That's a good idea! 🤔

How far apart did you plant the watermelon and cantaloupe? Great video
He said that he had 6 plants in an 8 foot long bed, so about 14 inches apart I would guess.
I love the music 🎶 🎶 bobbing left to right
Now I know that I'm not alone in my water hose struggle.
Where did you buy your garden nozzle with rod ?? Thank you
Its made by Dramm. They make really great hose breakers and wands!
Hey what about Pumpkins. Can you talk about growing pumpkins what do you do different from growing melons? Thanks.
Is a 4x4 raised bed to small for watermelon?
Your tomatoes look very healthy. What variety are they?
How about shade cloth. I live in southeast Texas, and summers can be hot. How wide are your beds. SD
Loved the intro that was funny😆
don't know why I'm here😅 I don't have enough space for planting huhu how I wish I can grow my own food too
I really enjoy this funny video !
What kind of fertilizer do you use?
Not sure why but cantaloupe grows really well here but my watermelons always fail. I don’t like cantaloupe so give them away but love watermelon 🍉
How much dirt and how much muchroom blocks??
I’m making my own bed in Florida and the mushrooms farm I volunteer at has amazing mushrooms blocks..
do water melons need prunning?
How do you protect the watermelons and cantaloupes from squirrels, rodents, rabbits, etc, etc?
Put up a fence and get a pellet gun.
Can I grow cucumber the same way too?
Can you you show how you start a raised bed start too finish
Great info! Thanks.
hahaha. I watched that intro about 10 times, tickled me good😅😅
Great tips!! Thanks!
How Many did you plant and what’s the spacing
How many seeds did you use per plant? Is it just 6 seeds for 6 plants?
What do you feed you melons(2 type) normally and how often?
Subscribed after just watching you with that hose!😂
I wish you could have talked about how to fertilize them and when.
