Dwarven Walking stick sets your move to thirty you say? (Tosses it to the monk) Ha! Now you're slow like the rest of us!

@@dungeonsanddice Somehow a guy casually strolling up the wall or across the water with a walking stick might be more terrifying than him running across the water and punching you in the face repeatedly.... (Probably because your brain would have time to process what he is doing before being rattled around by his fist or a roundhouse to the face.)

Good list, and damn the overpowered creativity, full steam ahead on immovable rod! Every party gets one! Even if they do something way overpowered with it that somehow short circuits an entire set piece encounter ... it's always amazing! When they pull off something OP with an immovable rod, it's usually exciting, hare brained, and either comical or mind blowing. Definitely worth the heartache of seeing the villain you thought was going to give the party a drubbing not be able to get out of their sanctum via the door..
"So, you aren't going to fight him?"
"Nah, let him starve in there for a few days, we'll come back and see if he still kicking."
(Barbarian doesn't know the door opens inward. Vilian opens the door and slams face first into the rod on his way out. )
Had a party drop it out the back of a carriage, on an overcast night, when they had two other carriages in hot pursuit.... The carnage! The poor horses!

      @dungeonsanddice  Рік тому +2

Had a right chuckle at that last bit. I may use that on the PC's carriage next time they ruin one of my encounters ;)

i feel like a somewhat stronger version of pipe of smoke monsters would let you create a 1-foot cube smoke creature that lasts for a full minute and you can give commands to controll up to say 30 feet, but literally disappears after any forced movement through it. a great way to distract some big brute. maybe blind for a surprise round, and so on.
mostly harmless and cant over use as it would take an action to conjure another smoke monster, and maybe has limited charges per day.

My wording for the Horn of Silent Alarm is slightly different.
"One creature of your choice can hear the horn's blare"
Doesn't say you have to know the individual.

Instead of the walking stick you could just use the Boots of Striding and Springing which is a legit item and also gives the bearer extra leaping ability too.

    • @dungeonsanddice

I’m always unsure what to give the players, I don’t want to give them strong magic items at every place, but I also want to reward them with something other than gold pieces and the like that they usually get, so this is a great list! The Dwarven Walking Stick is a fun idea I haven’t thought of before

The immovable rod seems like a good idea to prevent fall damage, use the rod to stop falling, deactivate it rinse and repeat as needed. In fact you could use to climb on nothing as well. Hold the rod as high as you can, activate it pull yourself up deactivate it and quickly hold it slightly higher and turn it on again. Also rinse and repeat

As a newbie playing there first character I'm a halfing ranger the 2 magic items I really love are goggles of night vision & spider slippers. First sign of trouble I climb up the nearest wall hide in shadows on ceiling i can usually take out 2 opponents with my crossbow before they realise where I am by which time I've moved somewhere else. Spider slippers are awesome for any of the smaller races.

So the biggest change for me between the Baulder's gate, and Icewind Dale games made by Blackisles studios was that while most of the magic weapons in the former were +2 long sword, in the latter you had a lot more writing with histories telling you about the king who had these swords commissioned for this army and this great battle where they were used, and two to five paragraphs later you have a +1 short sword.

The great thing with temp hp is that it goes away when you leave combat. Murdering every pigeon in town square would get real old after the third time, while in combat and getting smacked around.

    1. Very board gamey.
    2. Pretty cool, but I'd rework it like so: Horn, the horn is heard only by the one who blew the horn last time, no matter where he is
    3. Immovable rod is iconic indeed. I don't like an idea of having a buttons on a magic item, so my variant is: Sword +1, a sword that cannot be moved unless held by the hilt while it is not sheathed
    4. Funny, I guess
    5. Just boring, videogameish item
    6. Just flavor, but cool :)
    7. Very board gamey, again
    8. Depends on how magic works in a setting
    9. A bit less boring than a bloody sword, but videogamish nevertheless
    10. Boring
They are not perfect, but thanks for the video
A second part was a bit better in terms of inspiration

@@shinom0ri yep, I have a big table random table of magical loot. Here are some of them I just rolled:
Bag, time inside flows twice as slow, if you turn it inside out, time inside flows twice as fast
Mace +1, palm shaped tip. Exactly repeats the position of the user's free hand
Sword +1, if the owner pretends to sheathe the sword, it will teleport to the sheath
Slingshot +1, if you shoot a tooth, it will leave a bite at the point of impact as from the jaw of the owner of the tooth. tooth disappears upon impact

So your not over powered. Your underpowered

    • @Xylarxcode
      @Xylarxcode Рік тому +2

I think you're missing the point. If you're fighting something of which you know the AC, because it's been hit a few times already, you can guarantee at least one hit on it if 10 plus your modifier matches or exceeds its AC. It's basically a tool for guaranteeing one hit on the creature you're fighting.
Is it great? No, but it's sorta situationally useful. For at least one round, you don't have to worry about getting a low roll. It's especially good if you're about to die and you suspect the creature is very low as well (good DM's will usually give you a hint that the thing you're fighting is starting to look beat up), you can score one guaranteed hit with this and save your life.
