  • Basic "twist" method of coiling cables in the over/under method. There are a couple different ways to do this, this video shows one way. Regardless, make sure the loops are the proper (and consistent) diameter.

    For 35 years of working in audio, this is EXACTLY the way I teach it. Even people who cannot get the specific "actions" of back wrapping will understand what the finger pinch and roll does! I've seen hundreds of explanations by others fail, but this way works 100% of the time when I teach it. Eventually as the person gets more comfortable they don't think about the twisting but do it naturally. Good job!

    THE UNDER GOES BEHIND THE LOOP!!! Wow, thanks for the "A-ha!" moment. I've seen so many tutorials with the over under and I could never do it right. This makes sense now.

    Best video of this coiling method by far! All the others go into confusing detail about how your thumbs should be pointing this way, your palms that way... all while neglecting to show us simply what the cable does and why it’s called over/under, like this explanation. Being short and to the point is a bonus.

      It also illustrates why this is good for the cable since you can see how the twists would cancel out in the whole.

    Thank you so much for posting this! There were plenty of videos on how to wrap long cables, but none that showed your twisting technique for shorter cables. After struggling for a while using earlier videos, then getting it with yours - I was way more excited than a person should reasonably be about wrapping a cable. I then proceeded to rewrap and tie every cable in my apartment.

    there is nothing wrong with wrapping cords nicely one direction (clockwise) never had a problem if you do it the same way every time. People want to over complicate a simple process.

    Why do this instead of all over loops?

    • @jccoops5284
      @jccoops5284 3 місяці тому +1

      All over loops causes it to get tangled up. Doing over/under makes it so when you uncoil it, it makes a straight line. All over or all under would cause it to loop over each time.

    Dont forget the over under mantra: over worked, under paid, over worked, under paid, ect....

    This has been stuck in my mind for months because I saw a video about the over under technique but they couldnt teach it properly. It was really confusing. This, by far is the best explanation I've ever seen. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

    about 15 years ago when i was in high school, i took some graphic design/digital recording courses through my local community college. digital photography, digital drawing, digital video, and digital sound; a lot of cables involve in the latter two. they they tried to teach us how to do the over-under wrapping. they taught it in person, and most of us didn't grasp what they were talking about. this video is so much more helpful than they were lol i watched this video one time, did the wrapping as i watched, and now i feel like i'll never forget how to do it. great video.

    Wow this makes a lot more sense the way you explained it, it’s as simple as hold the cable in front of you, twist away from you then loop the twist toward you then loop.

    Thank you for making this one. To the point, and up close detail of what the heck is actually happening to the wire. I need to develop muscle memory for this but I'm terrible at it since apparently every explanation I ever got wasn't complete enough to show the way the "under" loop forms.

    I mean, if anyone's gonna get on your case about the elbow technique ruining cables, they definitely shouldn't be chucking the loose end connector across the room and on the floor, twice lmao, that's how you ruin connectors.

    I switched to this loop style after endless frustration with the old arm wrap method - but I was alternating which side of the wrap I would place each over and each under loop. The explicit "don't do it like that, do it like this" instruction is the key I was missing. Thanks for the vid!
