Looking back, I think "Purple Rose" was one of the great films of the 80s and much of the reason was the excellent performance of Jeff Daniels. Sometimes they get everything right.
I've been a massive Woody Allen fan for over 40 years. I never liked Purple Rose of Cairo, and never liked Jeff Daniels in the part. When Daniels coyly says, "an actor fell out" he is talking about screen legend Michael Keaton. Personally I think Woody resurrected the 'back to the future' idea and made a far better movie in Midnight in Paris -- and I couldn't imagine Daniels replacing Owen Wilson in that.

he is just fantastic
thanks for posting :)
Idiot called, 'Something Wild', 'Wild Thing". Embarrassing. I can't believe Jeff Daniels just sat there. What a chill guy.
To be fair, the movie did use the song "Wild Thing" for its famous scene.
The guy who dropped out of Purple Rose of Cairo was Michael Keaton
donuthaters12 MIchael Keaton was fired. Woody told him it wasn't working out
jojopuppyfish really? Interesting. I wonder what happen.
@@adamarens3520 See Robert Weide's film about Allen's career if you want the answer.
