The setting of him being in a court full of women is about being lost in a sea of other women when in fact he only wants this one, and the fact that he's stumbling around isn't a reference to his drunkness but actually how the woman he loves blinded him so he can't act proper. All the girls in the court are actually representing the women that he's tried to lose himself in to try and forget his love. It holds cultural value because the sample from the song is used from a traditional korean cultural song called 소양강 처녀, a seongak I think... in which it's actually one of the first times traditional songs and modern pop is combined together. Also, note that the word 'Fiance' is just a vague translation of what the actual name is. The actual name for the song is "아낙네" (pronounced anaknae) which is a cultural word describing the traditional korean wife in 고려시대. The props. Second. Let's talk about three things in particular: the clothes, the setting, and the drawings. The clothes are standard Goryeo dress. Traditional Goryeo king dress- sangtu (which is the ponytail he has) the robes, gold embroidery, they're all fully traditional, I assure you. I had to do a bit of research on this myself just to make sure and yup, traditional. Now the settings: you see how in the start of the video, he's sleeping in a field of reeds? This is drawing a reference to the Korean phrase "여자의 마음은 갈대 같다", which translates into A woman's mind is like reeds. It means a woman's mind is easily bent and easily changed, goes in the flow of the breeze with no actual direction like reeds swaying in the wind. It's referencing the fact that his lover is the same, she lifts his hopes and then drops them like a rollercoaster ride. The woman hiding in them is like saying his lover hides behind a mind like reeds that easily let him up and down. Finally, for the drawing: you see the drawing of a bird, and on the eye, Mino's face. The bird is a blue bird, or a 파랑새, which is an animal that represents the idea of letting go of false hope and facing reality, which in this case, is what he's doing- letting go of the false hope his lover gave him and choosing to face the fact that she's leaving him. The position is chosen as the eye due to the saying, 눈의 캔디- a pretty cute saying. That's equivalent to the english saying of the apple of someone's eye. You can now see why he decided to place himself on the eye. So that's the simplest, most basic interpretation of the MV. Forever a masterpiece
As a Korean expat, I appreciate that Mino made me proud of the old Korean culture particularly of the 60's-70's when the trot was popular. Many young Koreans disrespect and ignore trot songs because they sound tacky to their ears but here Mino's fusion of Trot elements in the song sound completely innovative and cool. Maybe this is what we call talent and creativity. Kudos to his artistry.
