There's really no wrong answer if you choose between the 300 and the Genesis - the Genesis gets a facelift for 2012. How about another challenge with the SRT-8 300 and the Genesis R-spec. It's a battle with the super V8s. MotorTrend should invite the mob bosses with the upgrades.
I'll tell you why Genesis is better, cuz first its a luxury sedan, and second cuz you can also enjoy your driving;)

Without a Hemi the 300 is just garbage. The exterior is bland and dated, the interior is cheap looking. Chrysler was never able compete with premium cars like lincoln or acura.

The truth is... Genesis V-8. More interior room, longer warranty, and more reliable. Though the 300 gets points for the panoramic sunroof,4 wheel drive, and a tad more style.
i think people need to chill out and not hate motortrend for trying to make a different kind of road test video than the normal ones you see by everyone else

Ok your comparing the 4.6 Genesis against a 5.7 HEMI in the 300. 4.6 only comes .2 second slower 0-60 and is catching the 300 at the quarter mile look at speed 103 for genesis. 101 for 300 C. Now compare the 2012 5.0 Genesis and the 5.7 300C and the Genesis Blows the 300 out of the water while still being a much smaller displacement engine. 0.7 L is quite a big advantage, but as we know Mopar makes underpowered engines. They boast about their Pentastar V6 making 290 Horsepower. BIG WHOOP! 3.8 L Hyundai motor makes 348 horsepower. Anyways in 2011 hyundai was just on the rise, in the next few years the domestic car makers wont even be able to touch them in terms of quality, looks, and performance for the money. Wait til the next generation Genesis coupe comes out. Wait til the N series comes out. Like BMW's M series. Also they are going to create a luxury/performance sub brand.

Trunk capacity is important. Bringing 3 of your relatives across the border in one trip saves time and money.
This was not the Tau V8 version. This was the 3.8L V6 Genesis, but I do like the new 30's styling.

This test doesn't even work. The numbers were fine, but the last test had different drivers. This means they tested the drivers skills, not the car.

@aethrus i dont think they didnt have the money. i think its because the genesis and 300c are comparably equipped and priced. and people are gonna cross shop with them where as the BMW or Mercedes are not in the 300c class and dont even have any new models out where as the 300c is a new revamp and the genesis is a revamp. so you shouldnt go making assumptions just cause you have a clouded perception of a company.
nobody hated chryslers more than me prior to the fiat takeover but i have to say that if i were looking for a full size sedan, id consider the 300 now. it wouldnt be in white though

This test is not conclusive. They did not test these cars by both drivers. For instance, the guy who drives Genesis is heaviers than the other guy. You mean screwed by your own test measures.
I would choose the Hyundai over the Chrysler. You don't buy this type of cars for doing laps around a track but for the luxury and quietness. I think the Hyundai wins out in that respect.
The Hyundai makes it a bit too obvious that you couldn't afford the Merc or BMW that you actually wanted...
The new 300 looks so much more pedestrian than the 2010. Not sure I like it.
the genesis is more of a car thats focused on luxury and comfort rather than sport.
@samtheman48 its because they want to help differentiate the two cars from each other without separating brands. if you go to some hyundai dealers they have a separate section specifically for genesis and equus models. and plus the perception of hyundai is getting better...but it still isnt high enough for all out luxury cars. but its just to help differentiate

@Snowmation , I completely agree.It's nice that they tried to make it entertaining,but they should've give more information about both rides. Top Gear got that - they do make it funny,but they combine that with the opinion and the verdict for each car. But hey,they're still learning I guess...
Ok, so the Chrysler won the tie breaker. It also outperformedin the figure 8 AND out accellerated it. The Hyunai on other hand blocked out just a little more noise than the Chrysler and it can hold a whole half of a man in the truck more than the 300C. This competition wasn't even close. Unless you need that extra space for that half of a man in your trunk, the Chrysler is the clear winner. Not to mention style as well...
@jp0484 That's the genesis coupe... Motortrend loves em and has it as the best "pony car" over Mustang, Camaro, Challenger V6s. Not sure why it was even invited to that competition...
I've always said that Top Gear was a really shitty automotive journalism outlet with very good entertainment values, so I always defended Motor Trend when it came under attack for not being entertaining enough, despite being much more professional when it came to car reviews. However, this is a clear attempt at bringing Top Gear-like entertainment to MT. As a longtime fan, MT, I've got to tell you, you're better off sticking to the more professional, detail-oriented reviews.

@pcmr57 No, the Grand Cherokee and Durango arn't based on Mercedes, and they haven't been since Daimler was cut out of Chrysler. The 04-09 Durango, and 05-10 G. Cherokee were based on Mercedes, like the 06-10 Charger and 05-10 300's, but 2011 and newer, no more.

I just wish I could get the 2011 300C, but with the bodywork of the previous model. It was so imposing and evil, but not nearly as good of a car underneath. Although, if I were going to really start creating fantasy Chryslers, I'd take the interior from a slightly older 300C. Like, the one from 1957. What an unbelievably gorgeous car that was!

they totally remade the genesis, even though the old genesis looked good i've only seen a couple on the road probably because it looked more like sport car that only young people would buy
@emilskarholt they did that because the genesis and the 300c are about the same price with about the same features. and will get cross-shopped you must not kno about cars recently cuz you should kno about the genesis. its gotten a whole hell of a lot of awards.

Chrysler EASILY outsells Hyundai in the full sized car market and the minivan market for just two examples. The COMBINED equus and Genesis sales will never even equal the sales of the Charger.

@yummy1234098 BMW and Mercedes do actually have reasonably new models in a comparable class (size- and comfort-wise). And I didn't want to criticize Motortrend, if thats what you meant. I just think that the Hyundai has a complete lack of character and original style. And yeah, the 300C started life as a Bentley look-alike, but the new model looks much better. The Hyundai just looks like a budget car that tries to not offend.
Knock off top gear? This is a cheaper budget and a less fun to watch version of what top gear did

Can the Chrysler run on regular unleaded? The Genesis can. At a difference of 30 cents/gallon, that can mount up. No mention of the sound systems. Genesis has a sound system that is on the Rolls Royce.
Italian mobsters Kong and McEvans? Obviously a well researched bit. It's shocking that motortrend can't give away magazine's anymore. Top Gear, it is not.

Let's make it simpler than that. The 300 comes with a long list of standard features including STANDARD TOUCH SCREEN. The Genesis doesn't.
300c beats Genesis because the Genesis transmission sucks and doesn't offer as much thrust as the proven Wa580. The 300 also out handles the Genesis because of its Mercedes E-class roots.
300 wins HANDS DOWN. PERIOD.

the last test was not fair cause it took the dude to in the genesis 4s to get in but in 300c it took 3s plus their not testing the car their testing driver skill (not complaining just saying)

@shobin05 if performance wasn't a factor they wouldn't of compared the 300c they would have used the 300 limited. and the 300c has plenty of comfort and it's quality is obvious.

No Winner here since i dont know enough on the Chrysler , tho i would choose the Hyundai a million times.
@pcmr57 Pretty self explanatory what it means. If you think they are the same as your experience in 1985 and even well into the 2000s well i'm sure you would never change your mind regardless of what they did. Its funny we are talking about a 2011 vehicle so my point that they have come along way can't be dismissed by saying they were junk before that. It makes my point. I've come around for cars that hyundai has produced. It is nice to them make some attractive cars as well.
I would still buy the Hyundai.It's quite apparent that the Genesis is a better built car not to mention an multi-thousand watt stereo system only available on the Rolls Royce Phantom. Hyundai is going to be the new Lexus soon and the quality will far surpass American cars,actually it already does lol.
