I think the mic sounded great outdoors with the deadcat on, high volume setting and the high-pass filter off. You can hear it at 13:53 - I think that sounds great! I think I'm going to be using the deadcat on all the time. Thanks for this video! I'm purchasing this mic right now.
@nicolaslezas7610 My in-camera settings never went above 9. I used to live right around 7, and I used the premps from the mke instead of the camera because, as you know, the Sony Preamps are garbage like most camera preamps.
Love it when it works. Sometimes, when shooting with my iPhone's native camera app, the volume is recorded very soft. Could the batteries be low? The red light never came on so I thought the batteries should still be good. Have you experienced anything like this? No idea what the problem is.
I haven't experienced anything like that. I rarely use it with my android let alone my apple devices so I'm not sure why it would sound low. Are you using it with an audio editing software or just through your voice recorder app? It could be the levels need to be set properly in the app if you are using an audio editing software -- if not it could just be a software issue with Apple itself. I would try it on a non apple device to see if you're mic battery indicator is still reading green with no issues.
Rode videomic Go 2 and Sennheiser mke 400. Which of these two microphones is better to use for ASMR videos? Some bloggers claim that the Sennheiser mke 400 microphone has relatively strong 'self noise', is that true?
When on my a7iii it does have a noticeable hint of self noise that you may not like for ASMR. If you are doing live I can see that as a problem but if you plan on recording and editing your audio it is very easy to remove and it sounds amazing. So it really comes down to if you are going to edit your audio I would say it is a good microphone but if you are trying to do live you may not like the self noise
Hey man! Nice review:) i just got this mic and I'm using it with the sony a7iv. What is your target gain on the camera? I set my mke 400 at +20db and have the preamp at 9, and I can only reach -12dB peak talking normally at an arms length. It seems pretty low to me and other gain options would make increase the sony preamp and make it hissy. Can it be that I need to send mine to Sennheiser for repair?
I usually set my gain in camera(A7II) at a 2 - 4 range with the MKE at its highest gain setting on the flat profile and that does the job for me. With those settings my levels are between -18 and -12 db and that is my target range. If you can be between these levels you can increase your levels in post to peak at -0.2 db without introducing hiss. Especially if you are arms length away. Have you tested it in different settings? Quiet and noisy to see if there may be a difference?
That's a shame then because mine came out of the box this way. But, you telling me that just gave me the green light to super glue it. I have been wanting to but was unsure if it was meant to come off that way for service purposes. Thank you
Agreed. That looseness is definitely a defect. Mine is also completely solid. But, that makes me want to be extra careful not to knock it around too much.
I am gonna try and reach out to sennheiser and see if they can't help me out since mine is clearly not supposed to do that lol. Thank you all for letting me know.
As long as you gain stage properly you won't hear any hiss. The reason you hear hiss in this video is because I wanted to demonstrate how bad the audio can sound if you rely on the cameras pre amps instead of the ones on the mic.
Thank you for the review, and thank you for watching. I'm going to try to send it in I've had it for a while let's see if they honor it. If they do I'll comment on here

I'm glad I could help. Thank you for the comment and for watching. I love the dead cat on this thing.
Nice review of the Sennheiser!
Thank you! It really is a great microphone.
When I use the MKE 400 on my sony a7s3 what was the Audio rec level of my camera in db??

Pretty sure your blimp is no longer properly attached or is broken. Mine is solid enough to hold onto the blimp as though it were a camera top handle.

@@KID_CULTUREokay.... so we have play with settings to pull out the best from it.. 🤘🏻
Nice review! Your mic is broken. Send it in and get it fixed, It shouldn't "come apart" like that. Love mine, agree with everything you said.
