Making my rounds, thanking the IT UA-camrs who gave me the courage to switch careers at 32. I'm 3 months into my first IT job and just passed the Security + exam today. I'm studying for my next cert already and I had to stop by and say thank you for all the amazing content you put out. Your videos always reassured me when that little voice would pop in to say, "It's too late." or "You can't do this." Haha I'm having so much fun going down this path, and I've never felt more in control.

Thank you David Bombal for making this video. I for one have been inspired to pursue this path. I currently have the A+ and Network+ certs and work as a deployment technician doing computer hardware refreshes for enterprises. So now in 2023 I'll continue to level myself up in IT and enter the hacking sphere starting with Linux. I got the linux basics for hackers book on kindle as well as the getting started becoming a master hacker book and a comptia linux+ course on udemy. I'm giving myself 2-3 months to complete this step of the journey. I'm solidifying my resolve to get this done with this comment.

    Analytical/problem solving/creative - Achieved
    Persistence - Getting better
    A+ knowledge - Achieved
    Networking - Achieved
    Linux+ knowledge - Achieved
    Virtualization - Achieved
Basic Wireshark - Achieved (could use more practice)
    Sec+ knowledge - Achieved
    Scripting Languages - Needs work
    Database skills SQL - None
Web application skills - Very little
    Forensics - None
Cryptography - Could improve, but comfortable.
Prepping on taking the OSCP again since I failed years ago. I'm trying to fill the knowledge gaps before biting the bullet and taking the actual course again.

Summary of this video in one line (maybe i am right) : Cyber security is a ocean, just dive into properly, never stop trying and never ever ever !! stop exploring stuff, the biggest mistakes of this young generation is they think they know everything, and that's where you fell down for the first time, always explore, learn something new everyday, put the hours in, never give up, and always keep watching video of David sir ✌✌💖💖

4:22 "There are some people who just need a cookbook. They will never ever going to be problem solvers. That's just not going to be part of their makeup. But most people can. They’re trained. They spend lots of time practicing at it."
I think this is a nice explanation of the difference between natural problem solvers, trained problem solvers and those who are not familiar with solving problems. The latter need a cookbook or a receipt to tell them what to do exactly.

I thought my 22 years in I.T was behind me. I may just jump the fence.. lol. Much of what this fellow is speaking about are all skills I had to varying degrees in my career. Unfortunately, I ended that career as a Manager for the last 4 years.. so a bit rusty on the keyboard. I remember using the Hayes modem command set to configure modems and I recall their being war dialers back in the day. Wonder if those are valid attack vectors in this day and age...? Took the old ICRC course (intro to cisco router configuration) a long time ago and was pleasantly surprised to see much of that still applied decades later. Was just never much of a progammer, tended towards Operations. This won't be quite like riding a bike, but it may be close due to skill transference ;-) One of my best soft skills was a knack for intuitive solutions to troubleshooting problems.

A video on staying anonymous online would be great!
I have read some of OTW's "Linux Basics for Hackers", and I believe the answer is "use proxies". It would be great if OTW could also explain how one can acquire suitable proxies. From which service providers should one buy them and how? Are proxy chains worth the extra effort? How about war driving or using free wifi in stores or coffee shops instead? How can the MAC address be changed?
