I love watching these old Dick Cavett shows so much, they’re each a perfect beautiful moment in time, and Cavett always had conversations with his guests, instead of hurtling questions at them.
I Love Fred too, what a class act he was! TCM ( Turner Classic Movies )still shows them on a regular basis and so does the channel " Movies " both formats show mostly older classic American films from the 30, through 70's with some newer shows thrown in occasionally!
It's amazing to see Fred Astaire move from his shy personality during the first part of the interview and then take over as the powerful performer he was when he sings the two songs he wrote. I love it that Astaire was listening to the Beatles.
The Beatles probably liked him too. I would give them that much credit. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if he was included on their Sgt. Pepper album cover. Maybe not, but I'd like to think so.
Whenever McCartney is asked his favorite songs, he usually lists mostly 50’s rockers with the exception of “Cheek to Cheek”. He also referenced Fred Astaire while performing “You Gave Me the Answer” with Wings.
Fred Astaire was an extreme perfectionist, and would practice for months each dance scene to get it perfect ,people with such dedication to perfection have always been a very rare commodity, so thankyou Fred, and I'm sure you're in heaven dancing with an Angel,
We had Dick Cavett and Johnny Carson; now we have the two Jimmys, both of which are the epitome of the word 'tool'. Dick was such a classy, yet down to earth in depth interviewer.
I do have nothing against the other celebs that were on this show but is this channel ever going to show the Dick Cavett shows where he interviews Jackie Gleason or Art Carney? How about any Honeymooners actors that were part of the main cast? These are rarities much like all the other Dick Cavett interviews
a strange man...fred astaire was.....a great artist and though not a very good singer.....he was the guy ALL the songwriters wanted to sing their songs.....not Crosby...not Sinatra....
What's your favourite Fred Astaire movie of all time?
I may be in the minority here, but "Holiday Inn." I love seeing Bing and Fred paired together.

Love him. His movies with his dancing were great to watch and very entertaining. Too bad that they are not much shown at the TV nowadays. 👍💐

One of the best entertainers ever.
Oh yes, Cavett’s the best!

Amazing Fred! He liked The Beatles! Gotta love him! 💖
Fred had met both John, George and also Yoko, because he was in Lennon's music video "Nobody Told Me."

@@somethingyousaid5059 Yes, he is on the Sgt. Pepper cover.

Fred Astaire is my idol as a dancer.
Beatles and astaire. Epic artists from twenty century.
The audience knows the songs and claps
I am pretty sure I read that Fred considered The Band Wagon his best film and favorited Rita Hayworth as his dance partner.
I like how he laughs
He was also a great drummer.

Brilliant interview. Can you please upload more Robert Shaw?! Thanks.
🔹️Louis Armstrong, Fred Astaire, Bing Crosby, Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra. My five favourite crooners ❗👀👍❕
😎✌️

Fred who could have danced on Astaireway. (Or some equally lame joke of mine.)
What’s green and dances? Fred Asparagus
Your joke is even more lame than mine.
I'm envious.
