I was wandering around the Dollar Store and came up with this neat little hack. Thanks for watching and please leave me a thumbs up (or a thumbs down) and a comment in the section below!
Really good cookware for backpacking James. You could even boil a small amount of water, say a cup. I am gonna add this to my gear. Thanks
I left a comment below. I recommend that people not cook in it. It may be toxic under heat If it is not food grade and made in China. The metal most likely contains chromium and lead which are very toxic under heat . I am sure short time use may not be harmful, but used multiple times may cause health issues. Thanks for video. But as for me I would never use it. In fact a lot of camping cookware is not food grade and yet are still sold .
Once again demonstrating your genuine improvisational skills James...brilliant .
@@djschultz1502 Will burning the bowl off first solve the problem before using it for cooking?
@@melissahoffman4687 I don't believe so. It is part of the metal used in the manufacturing. A lot of China cookware is made of chromium, lead and other toxic metals and under heat it releases toxins and can contaminate food. Long term use can cause health issues. In the short term use it probably wouldn't be harmful, but I never take the chance.
Good idea. If you get two of those bowls and a couple of bulldog style paper clips, I imagine you could put them together and use it for baking. I think I will be trying that very soon. It should be a very versatile cooking system. Thanks for the idea. Always a pleasure watching your videos. They always help me to think outside the box and try something new.
Another good idea building on a good idea! They will nest and you only need the one handle.
I've actually seen a video of someone doing exactly that. Two bowls clipped together for baking. Been a while so I can't remember who did it, but it's a great idea.
That's a great idea
I love my two dog bowl cook set. I put small rocks in the bottom bowl, place my camp cup on top of the rocks and cover with the second bowl to bake. Works pretty good for me.
I hope that you don't mind that I built on your idea. Using flat bottom (dog) bowls.
What you chose to do before even attempting to eat those eggs was probably the strongest form of survival that most of us forget. It was inspiring to see you take the time to do that.
Thanks so much!
Amen 🙏
So true... Giving thanks to God, praying and trusting in Him, will definitely help us in these last days. Blessings & continued strength to all, in Jesus' name! 🙂
So good to see! Right on! Thank you, Lord for your provisions & blessing!
Amen 🙏
Thank you James for thanking HIM for all the good things, cool bro.
Indeed. Thanks for watching!
Have seen guys do Dollar Tree overnights and none of them compare. Your creativity and repurposing things from the Dollar Tree is unmatched. Great ideas.
Thanks so much!
Very nice $tree hack. Very workable. Doesn't take fancy or power tools. Easily done quite useful. They have 2 sixes of pet bowls with that shape plus a much larger dog food flat bottom bowl.
Thank you.
Thanks so much for watching!
Good call, and I have a set of those bowls sitting on the shelf.
I like the corkscrew. I'm a waiter/bartender and that one is a keeper. You have the hollow center to the actual corkscrew, the bottle opener/cork stabilizer, the small blade to cut the wine top plastic/foil off, everything you need including a handle for a DIY cooking pot. While it's cooking, you can open a soda/beer/wine bottle and enjoy! Great idea!
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
James, I invision you in the 1800's as the local inventor, striving to make life's chores just a bit easier. Thank you.
Thanks so much!
This is yet another great idea! I've STILL got my Altoids stove! Still works! Thanks
Great!
Good gear at a reasonable price has been a struggle for us living in the Republic of the Philippines. Much of our gear is "custom made" from surplus store finds, P88 stores, Daiso of Japan, and various import stores. It certainly helps that my brother-in-law purchases some excellent camping items at a local auction house for his re-selling business. We are well supplied these days, but you never know when additional equipment may be needed. This video showcases a great idea that anyone with basic skills can easily replicate. I am thinking of building a few of these simply for the fun of it and trying them out. Perhaps we will have something to share with others during the next disaster. Thank you for posting this. I am sure many folks will benefit.
Thanks so much!
@@WayPointSurvival You are certainly welcome and again, thank you for all your effort and dedication. Simple projects like this DIY cook pot, basic foodstuffs, and printed information in English and Filipino (Tagalog) about water treatment will allow us to aid others who need assistance in the aftermath of disasters. If not an earthquake (had a big one recently on Luzon) or, less often, a volcano, you can depend on a typhoon striking several times every rainy season here in the Phils.
I recently saw a store charge $7.00 for the same bowls. Survival is also about saving money especially in these times. Thank you.
Wow. Thanks for watching!
Thrift stores might have the same items at a fraction of the price..🤔
Another perk of carrying the waiters corkscrew is the addition of the corkscrew itself being useful for getting stubborn knots undone and if modified a bit maybe the tip of the corkscrew could be used for making holes in wood probably more uses that others could come up with after all the only limitation is your creativity.
Indeed. Thanks for watching!
Might make a good awl for tapping trees too...
You sir are a national treasure
Thanks!
Dollar tree, dollarama, stores are great places to pick up inexpensive stuff to hack for outdoors.
A great little cook set is the cook set from Ikea that is in the children's/kids section
Excellent. Thanks for watching!
Got a similar cook set I use for backpacking made by Kid Kraft.
As always another great hack I'm going to have to look for that bartender's corkscrew next time I go to Dollar tree that is a neat little heck God bless my friend have a blessed evening
Thanks so much and God bless you too, my friend!
Wow, awesome🙂 thank you James
Have a wonderful week
🕊🙏✝️🙏🕊
Thanks for watching, you too!
Cool I'm going to my local $Tree and trying that Thanks!
Excellent, thanks!
Absolutely Amazing James and You Truly Are A Man Of Many Talents and Thanks For Sharing My Friend!!!
Thank you, my friend, much appreciated!
Another simple & effective system for the beginner or budget camper. I like to built your "new idea" & keep them in the back of my car for those "just in case times". We have dozens of those discount stores that sell cheap items so I know for a few dollars you have a great piece of kit. BTW: those corkscrews are called "Waiters' Friends" when we had to uncork wine before serving.
Thanks so much!
I like the idea that you have something you can use and then you can buy one or two or more bowls to cook a meal but you don't have to have a separate handle for each one.
True!
That is a very very cool hack James you always seem to come up with the coolest ideas and cheap too I'm goin to my local dollar tree (dollar twenty five store)
Ours is 1.29 now...
Wow as far as I know ours is still 1.25
In reply to R & C Outdoors : I and some of my family now call them The FIVE QUARTERS store.
Thanks so much!
That was very cool thanks for showing us
Thanks for watching!
Another awesome video all the ideas you come up with are mind blowing keep up the great content
Thanks so much!
Impressive, you didn't just make a pot handle, but a pot handle that won't ever burn the user. There are SO many gimmicky idea videos on UA-cam that just aren't practical or flat out suck. This one is the counterweight...easy, cheap, highly useful and safe. NICELY done.
Thanks so much!
Nice one. Thanks.
I'll trade you one of my $ Tree hacks now. I get two of the bread baking tins, a grill rack and the Fancy Heat alcohol burners. It makes a combination stove/tent heater. Drill a few holes in the bread pans for oxygen inlets and heat outlets and use the grill as necessary for cooking on. It's also super easy to make the alcohol burners refillable. They burn for up to 4 hours. I've got dozens of burns out of them over the past 3-4 years and they're still going strong.
Thanks, great idea!
So cool 👍
Thanks!
Cool hack
Thanks!
Once again you hit it out of the park! Nice solo pot / bowl or great addition to any cookset. Thanks James!

That's why I like you, cool idea. A couple different sized bowls, a milking bucket, and pizza pan that fits the top of the bucket as a lid. Cut the same holes in the pan/lid for the "handle" and you got a great light weight cook set for a lot of people.
